The Incredible Two-Headed Podcast
Episode 54. 2022 in Horror Recap with J. Carlos Menjivar & Rik Tod Johnson
Here it is almost May, so it seems like the perfect time to release an episode that was recorded way back in early January. For this one, I sat down with friends of the show J. Carlos Menjivar and Rik Tod Johnson to discuss our favorite horror films of 2022, and a few other things as well. 2022 was a banner year for horror, so we had a lot to talk about.

Episode 53. Satirica-Lee (W/Rik Tod Johnson)
Another one I've been keeping in the vaults. This episode was recorded way back in May, for what was originally intended to be a celebration of Christopher Lee's birthday month. You'll hear a few references to the date, to my plans for getting the episode out, and a few other things that aren't particularly timely right now.Still, this was a fun discussion about a pair of movies I'd never seen before. So join us as we discuss The Magic Christian and Serial, two satires with small roles for Christopher Lee.

Episode 52. New Cult Musicals (W/ Johnny Duarte)
Welcome back to The Incredible Two-Headed Podcast, as I continue to clear out the backlog of episodes I've recorded but not uploaded. Keep in mind, during this conversation, that this was recorded almost 6 months ago at this point, so some of the things we talk about might be a bit dated. But join me and Johnny D. as we discuss a pair of cult musicals, the wonders of Tubi, and I share an idea for a short film that probably should have remained buried in my teen years.

Look at that! Our second episode released on schedule! Things are looking up around here.Joining me today is the inimitable Joey Clift, a writer/director/producer/performer whose work has appeared on Nickelodeon, Nerdist, Cartoon Network, and soon Netflix, among many others. Joey came by to discuss Prey, the new installment in the long running Predator franchise, as well as stuff himself with shredded cheese.Joey can be found on twitter @Joeytainment, on instagram @JoeyCliiiiiift (that's six I's), and some of his work, including his short film Telling People You're Native American When You're Not Native is a Lot Like Telling a Bear You're a Bear When You're Not a Bear, can be found on vimeo by searching Joseph Clift.

Carlos Menjivar and his Dial F For Film podcast! The two of us actually ventured into the real world and braved Monkeypox, Covid, and Los Angeles parking in order to see Lost Highway, newly remastered, and on the big screen!   As always, if you like this show and would like to hear more of it, why not rate/review/follow us wherever you get your podcasts. Episode 49. ”The Top 21 of ’21, Part One” with Zeke Perez
Welcome back, finally, to a brand new, format-breaking episode! Our first of the new year! For this episode I'm joined by Zeke Perez as we discuss some of our favorite music releases of 2021.On a technical note, there was a bit of a learning curve on this one. It was a bit more complicated to record and edit than usual, which is why it's fairly late. But I think it came together nicely and I think it's a fun episode. And this is only part one! Join us again in a couple days when I upload the last half of this monster-sized musical episode!

Episode 48. Cinema Du Look
Zeke Perez makes his long overdue return to help me close out the year by discussing a pair of stylish French films from the 80s.First up is Jean-Jacques Beineix twisty Diva (1981), followed by Leos Carax's sophomore film Mauvais Sang (1986). Both films were part of a filmmaking wave that would come to be known as Cinema du Look, films that favored style over substance. But as you'll see, these movies provide plenty of substance to talk about.

Episode 47. ”Miracle Mile” with Rik Tod Johnson
An into the night adventure full of pigeon arsonists, body-building helicopter pilots, the threat of imminent nuclear destruction, eternal love, and more character actors than you can shake a stick at. Plus the return of Rik Tod Johnson for a very special episode.Rik joins me this week to revive one of our long-dormant writing projects, in an episode that also doubles as a backdoor pilot for a potential spinoff podcast. We're talking Steve De Jarnatt's Miracle Mile, a film that flummoxed audiences in 1988. Were they right to reject this film en masse 33 years ago, or does this film earn its cult audience? Listen in to find out!

Episode 46.”Mexican Horrors?” with J. Carlos Menjivar
Returning champ J. Carlos Menjivar joins me today to discuss a pair of horror films from Mexico. Or at least, that was the initial plan, as it turns out the film I brought to the table wasn't a horror film at all, though it does deal with the supernatural.Macario, from 1960, is a fantasy tale about a poor woodcutter who befriends Death. After discussing this fundamentally nice film, we drastically shift gears with 1977's Alucarda, an over the top film all about repressed nuns, demonic possession, and lesbian vampires! J. Carlos Menjivar is host of the terrific Dial F For Film podcast, which can be found on the very same services you found this show!

Episode 45. ”Recent Horrors” with J. Carlos Menjivar
We're back! Did you miss us?Yes, the long national nightmare is over. After a month-long hiatus, The Incredible Two-Headed Podcast has returned with a brand new episode. This episode was recorded prior to October, and was intended to be the start of our Halloween series. We discuss the 2014 German oddity Der Samurai, and the 2017 Italian thriller Laplace's Demon. Along the way we also discuss a lot of the Halloween plans that never came to fruition, so go ahead and just ignore all that. Starting with this episode the podcast will be moving to a biweekly format, to hopefully avoid these interruptions in scheduling.

Episode 43. ”Japanese Noir” with J. Carlos Menjivar
It's the penultimate episode of our Summer in the Shadows series, and J. Carlos Menjivar is here to help us bring this baby home.Together we discuss a couple of noir-infused films from Japan. First up is Akira Kurosawa's near-masterpiece Stray Dog, a very street-level view of post-war Japan. After that is Seijun Suzuki's gonzo crime flick Branded to Kill. Both great films, and I had a great time talking about them with Carlos. You can, of course, find Carlos and his opinions about movies on the wonderful Dial F For Film Podcast, available from the very same service you found this podcast!

Episode 42. ”Only Martins in the Podcast” with Rik Tod Johnson
Old pal Rik Tod Johnson is back with us again as we near the conclusion to Summer in the Shadows. He joins me for a discussion that is laser focused and tangent free. It's all noir all the time. Well, aside from the fact that our second film, Pennies From Heaven, isn't really a noir at all. But other than that we're on point. Well, aside from the long stretch where we discuss the films of Kevin Smith. Other than that, totally focused.Oh what am I talking about. It's a rambling, random, tangent-filled 2 hours, as usual when Rik drops by. Come listen to us discuss the noir homage/spoof Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, and the depression era musical drama Pennies From Heaven.

Episode 41. "Pandemics" with Marianne L'Abbate
Marianne L'Abbate from Make Mine Film Noir becomes perhaps the quickest return guest we've ever had to discuss a pair of pandemic-focused noirs from 1950. First up, Panic in the Streets from Elia Kazan, starring Richard Widmark, Paul Douglas, Zero Mostel, and Jack Palance. After that, The Killer That Stalked New York, starring Evelyn Keyes, William Bishop, and Charles Korvin. It's a couple hours of lighthearted escape from the drudgery of our daily lives as we discuss a couple movies about deadly contagions!   Find Marianne and her writings at MakeMineFilmNoir.blogspot.com and you can follow the show on Twitter and Instagram @TwoHeadedPod

The heat continues, and so we rush back to the protective shadows to keep cool and discuss film noir. Today we've got a pair of films chosen by Marianne L'Abbate, from the terrific Make Mine Film Noir blog.First up is The Dark Corner (1946) starring Lucille Ball, Mark Stevens, William Bendix, and Clifton Webb. We follow that with a discussion of Too Late For Tears (1949) starring Lizabeth Scott, Dan Duryea, and Don Defore.Marianne really knows her stuff and it was fun to have her on to discuss these two films, and as you can hear, it's almost a requirement that she'll be back to discuss noir in the future. Episode 38. "Miscellanea" with Rik Tod Johnson
It's a bit of an odd episode this week, as Rik Tod Johnson of the Cinema 4 Cel Bloc returns for an episode that is nothing but tangents and random musings! There was a bit of a scheduling snafu this last few weeks, and rather than go another week with no episode, Rik and I got together for 90 minutes of mostly aimless discussion about movies, books, comics, Disneyland, the Fear Street trilogy on Netflix, and what type of alarm we use to wake up in the morning.I just hit record and am no presenting to you that entire discussion, sans edits. Warts and all, no editing out awkward silences, all of those 'uhm's, or any of the times I get tripped up on words and reset the entire sentence. Is it of any use to anyone? I guess we'll find out! Back next week with more of our regularly scheduled Summer in the Shadows series.

Episode 37. "Nicholas Ray" with J. Carlos Menjivar
Summer is in full swing, temperatures are steadily rising. It's not quite the burning hellscape that it will become in August, but we can see it on the horizon. Jump back into the shade of Film Noir and keep cool with us as our #SummerInTheShadows continues.Back this week is J. Carlos Menjivar, host of the Dial F for Film podcast, and he's brought with him a pair of melodramatic noirs from the great Nicholas Ray.First up: They Live By Night, a very early entry into the 'lovers on the run' subgenre. Following that, On Dangerous Ground, which matches Robert Ryan's thuggish big city cop with Ida Lupino's gentle smalltown blind woman. Both are great, and we have a great time discussing them. After listening to this one, be sure to check out the Dial F. For Film podcast, every episode is a winner.

Episode 35b. "Odds and Ends" with Rik Tod Johnson and Dolores Quintana
It's takin' care of business time here at the Incredible Two-Headed Podcast, and this week we've got a short filler episode to explain what's going on with the podcast these days. We've got big plans for the summer and we're previewing them here in a brief chat with our old pal Rik Tod Johnson. After that, I threw in a little bonus deleted scene from last week's episode with Dolores Quintana. Our discussion about the self-censorship of streaming platforms led to a pretty interesting tangent about William Friedkin, The Exorcist, and the hypocritical morality of CBS procedurals. It was great stuff, but the episode was already going long and I figured we should just get to the movie discussion a bit quicker. So here it is now for your enjoyment! We'll be back next week with a regular episode, the beginning of our Summer of Darkness series.
