Living with Chronic Illness: Nitika Chopra on Myasthenia Gravis, Nervous System Healing & Persevering Through Health Challenges

This week I had the honor of sitting down with the delightful Nitika Chopra — founder of Chronicon and The Chronicon Foundation,  a pioneering platform and nonprofit uplifting those living with chronic illness through community, advocacy, and education. A seasoned host, speaker, and entrepreneur, she’s collaborated with brands like Google, Microsoft, and Bristol-Myers Squibb, hosted a globally distributed talk show, and now leads Truth Talks via her publication The Truth Today.

Her mission: to create healing spaces where people are empowered to live fully and thrive—on their terms, and truly a beautiful human who has navigated most of her life living with multiple (and at times debilitating) chronic illnesses — to discuss her journey navigating these health challenges, how her pain turned to purpose in her work, and why she believes your challenges in life are not the WHOLE truth of who you are.

Nitika shares her personal journey of being diagnosed with psoriasis at a young age, later developing psoriatic arthritis, and most recently, being diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, including symptoms she was experiencing and how her diagnosis She opens up about the early symptoms she experienced, how she’s learned to listen to her body, and the healing practices that have supported her — from therapy and learning about nervous system regulation to creating safe, empowering spaces for others through her foundation, Chronicon.

We explore how her struggles led her to create Chronicon, a movement and community for people living with chronic illness, and her Life Mastery program that helps individuals reclaim joy, purpose, and connection even in the midst of health challenges. We also discuss the importance of the relationships in her life and how those have helped her persevere during challenges with her health and the hard days.

Whether you live with chronic illness yourself or support someone who does, this conversation is filled with wisdom, compassion, and hope.

This conversation touched my heart personally, as Nitika was the first person I have interviewed who has been diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune condition that has also affected me the last two years. She is a true inspiration and example that so much goodness is possible despite our challenges we face. See below resources for how to get in touch with Nitika.

For nearly two decades, Nitika has paved the way as a changemaker in both the wellness and chronic illness landscapes. Her work transcends diagnosis—offering space, strategy, and spirit for anyone seeking to live a more liberated and meaningful life

Tips for Anxiety, Overwhelm & Mental Health from Two Millennial Therapists w/ The Founders of Peace Project

Andrea Rockefeller & Casandra Musemeci are the Co-Founders of Peace Project Mental Health Counseling, located in Rochester, NY where they work with Millennial women navigating the anxiety of being millennials in 2025.

As a HUGE advocate of supporting your mental health on any healing journey you find yourself facing, this conversation around emotional wellness and mental health support was so important to me to have here on the platform. In this episode, we discuss:

-Benefits of therapy and why it's not something you only should seek when something is "wrong"

-Tips for managing anxiety, setting boundaries, regulating your nervous system, and not identifying with your emotions

-How "people pleasing" can often lead to seeking of approval while setting boundaries

-Why seeking therapy while managing a chronic illness can be helpful for your healing journey

-How social media can be both beneficial and detrimental to your mental health, depending how you use it

-The importance of the PAUSE

& so much more!

The amount of personal growth I have seen in myself by utilizing therapy and working on my psychological wellbeing are SIGNIFICANT, and I have no doubt that Andrea and Casandra are helping women not just gain emotional self-awareness and relationship boundaries in their day to day lives, but they are helping their patients create awareness around what it truly means to support your mental health and helping them create lasting tools for managing their emotions and embracing a healthy life.

In addition to their private practice at Peace Project, they are also the creators of YourHumanTherapists, a platform dedicated to empowering fellow therapists to embrace their humanness and prioritize self-care through their free community, exclusive book club, and therapist-curated wellness space. Through their work, they emphasize the importance of “holding space for ourselves so we can better hold space for others.”

A Disability Doesn't Define You + Lessons in Growth After a Spinal Cord Injury with Jesi Stracham

Jesi Stracham was in a motor cycle accident over a decade ago causing a spinal cord injury that left her paralyzed and using a wheelchair. And she refused to let that disability define her by society's standards- she continues to redefine living with limitations and it is truly remarkable.

In this episode, Jesi and I dive deep into her journey living with a spinal cord injury; from finding God the night before her accident , why she believes it's important for wheelchair users to take care of themselves emotionally, physically and spiritually and how that has a SIGNIFICANT impact on your independence, how she uses holistic recovery therapies to heal her body, what it's like to author a book where she can unapologetically herself, and how working through her own BS and empowering herself to be better led her to find a loving relationship she never dreamed possible.

She is a HUGE advocate of mental health and shares mental health tips for people who are learning to live with a disability, why it's necessary to communicate with your support system during healing, and so much more.

This woman blows me away by her transparency on this journey and how authentically she shares the ups and downs of life with a disability on her social channels. In fact, she discovered by sharing a Youtube video having a meltdown on the floor in a hotel room where she was struggling with her disability just how powerful her voice is in this world. This moment changed everything.

Being able to sit with Jesi and share our struggles together and how we've overcome these situations and chosen to pivot and empower ourselves was something I didn't know my soul needed. Jesi is a HUGE inspiration to me, and I know will be for all of you.

Jesi Stracham is a soon to be author of her memoir Roll With Me, releasing in November 2025, and is a speaker, entrepreneur and advocate of transforming lives. She is the cofounder of Freedom Longevity + Wellness LKN, a co-developer of Wheel With me Adapt Fit, an adaptive fitness app for wheelchair users and she has an INCREDIBLY inspiring social media platform where she shares the raw and real truths of her healing journey.

How to Handle Curveballs in Your Healing Journey

Season 3 of the FWD Think Tank kicking off talking about how to handle the curveballs that life throws at you while on your healing journey. This was not an easy episode to record, as I have had some big hurdles the past few months. If you are on a cancer healing journey and find yourself faced with news you weren't hoping to hear, a scan result that brings emotional charges, blood work that isn't what you'd hoped to see, this episode is for you.

After spending some time off of social media after going through an unexpected second surgery this summer, I've put some thoughts together on how to help others navigate a health hurdle including focusing on facts first, processing and moving THROUGH your feelings and not internalizing them, the importance of protecting your peace and not oversharing your journey in the moment if that feels stressful for you, the NECESSITY of advocating for yourself because on YOU know your body, why it's important to relinquish control, move at your own pace and let God guide you forward when you feel like you can't do it on your own, and the importance of finding moments of JOY despite the heartaching moments of setback.

If this episode resonated with you, PLEASE share it. It means the world to me.

The Self Breast Exam that Saved my Best Friend's Life with Hillary Willy

Never would I expect that my best friend since the age of 10 and I would share the experience of a cancer diagnosis in our 30's. Hillary truly saved her own life by noticing a spot on her self breast exam one day that ended up being words no one wants to hear: it's cancer.

Through the height of the pandemic, I watched my best friend face a very difficult card as she got the news that her cancer was triple negative and she also tested positive for the BRCA gene. In this episode, my beautiful resilient friend shares her story of navigating life, treatment, multiple surgeries and balancing motherhood during a pandemic.

She is incredible. Her positive outlook on life, her desire to seek the joy in the little moments, continue to stay active and show up for herself and her family despite the hard and mentally and physically challenging days, she kept one foot in front of the other.

I am continuously in awe of this woman and ALL she has navigated in life. Please let this be your reminder to do your self exams, listen to your body, and also to continue to find the joy in each and every day.

I love you Hill! Thank you for coming to this platform to share your story.

Therapy Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All—Here’s What Finally Helped Me

In this episode, I dive into my personal journey with therapy—what worked, what didn’t, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. From learning to trust my gut instincts to understanding why finding the right therapist feels a lot like dating,

I explore how healing isn’t one-size-fits-all. I also talk candidly about why I believe Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), while helpful for some, isn’t the ultimate solution—and how other therapeutic approaches have helped me create deeper, lasting change. If you’ve ever felt stuck in therapy, questioned your progress, or wondered if there’s something more out there for your mental health journey, this episode is for you.

Some of the most important lessons I've learned in therapy that have truly helped me heal? Trusting your gut instinct can lead you to the right choices and direction. Those instincts are there for a reason. Plus, YOU cannot change someone else. The only person you CAN change is yourself. Want to know more of those lessons? Tune in to find out more.

Organs, Emotions & Energy: How Traditional Chinese Medicine Can Heal the Body with Dr. Erin Kumpf

Did you know your emotions correspond to different organs in the body, and there are specific times of day in which those organs are recharging? Fascinating, right?

In this episode, I sit down with my Acupuncturist, Dr. Erin Kumpf and pick her brain on all things Chinese Medicine. Chinese Medicine is an Eastern way of treating and viewing the body and is all encompassing- it doesn't just look at one specific ailment or symptom, but instead it aims to connect different areas of the body and helps get to the root cause by rebalancing and restoring Qi, our life force in the body.

Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine have helped me COUNTLESS times between balancing my hormones, reducing pain and inflammation in the body, helping rebalance my digestion, heal post-surgery, restore my nervous system and so much more, so I was ECSTATIC to sit with Erin and have this conversation.

We discuss ways in which our emotions can have an impact on our organs, the way these organ systems also relate to the different elements, how we can balance our symptoms with food, energy, and we even go through a breathing technique using QiGong practices that rebalance the organ systems with sound and color.

This episode is truly fascinating and I cannot wait for you to see why I love Erin OH so much. Dr. Erin Kumpf is a Doctor of Chinese Medicine (D.A.C.M), Licensed Acupuncturist (L. Ac) and Herbalist, and is one of my most treasured and beloved doctors and healers on this journey. I have had the honor of working with Erin for over six years. She focuses on women's health and reproductive health, and is TRULY a miracle worker.

Convos w/ Dad: Mastering Your Mind, Healing Your Body & The Impact of my Diagnosis with Jim Forward

Meet My Dad, Jim Forward: the "OG Forward" as me and my sisters call him. My best friend, confidant, encourager, spiritual buddy and the one who has helped guide me in every major life decision.

Together in this conversation, we navigate and discuss my diagnosis, and the unique way that my Dad decided to show up and support me while navigating the healing process. We also talk about the Rosicrucians, a school he found at a pivotal point in his life where he was searching for something more, and this truly changed his life. We discuss why it's important to master our mental health, and how it is directly connected to our physical body and spirit, navigating challenging times in life, how music has been an influential piece of both of our lives and can help the healing process, and so much more.

This is such a special conversation for me, as I've always found my Dad to be someone who has had eternal wisdom to share, and now he's sharing not just with me, but with all of you.

My Dad has made such a profound influence on my life in many ways. Not only has he helped me navigate every chapter of life, but he's been an entrepreneur my entire life, the Founder of Forward Branding & Identity, a branding and packaging firm that inspired creativity in all of us girls at a young age to find our own creative outlets and think outside the box. He's a problem solver, and someone who always looks at life from a slightly unique perspective. He has continued his innovative vision now developing a platform called Behold, a global platform that brings together artist and art lovers, and will be something that we will discuss in a future episode.

Jim is one of the coolest guys I know, "Curious Jim" as I call him- always being inspired by the world around him, figuring out ways to make things work better, and also reminding us all to never lose that inner child and to play and have fun. A young-at-heart guy, he is a loving husband, awesome father to me and my two sisters, and a fun-loving "Papa Jim" to his grandkids.

I am releasing this episode right before Father's Day weekend- wishing all of the Dads and father figures out there a very Happy Father's Day, and the biggest shoutout to JIm- my number one guy, always, all ways. Love you forever Dad! What a blessing to have this episode and conversation as a keepsake. Thank you. You're the best!

How Mushrooms Can Heal Your Brain & Boost Your Immunity + The Power of Community with Baris Sonmez

You may already know that mushrooms hold incredible benefits to your health, but did you know the quality of how they grow matters?

Meet Baris Sonmez, the owner and Founder of LIfeCap Farms, a mushroom farm in Jersey City. Baris started LifeCap in 2018 with a mission to connect the community through food, and give back to those in need. Baris and his team hold the HIGHEST standards for their mushrooms- with qualitative growing methods, and also intentional raw materials.

In this episode, Baris shares benefits of the top mushrooms he grows at the farm- Lion's Mane which can have incredible brain health and cognitive benefits working to repair the myelin sheath, Reishi which is great for immunity, reducing inflammation and improving sleep and relaxation, Turkey Tail which is a strong antiviral, anti-tumoral, great for digestion and can help boost your immune system, and more.

Baris offers CSA mushroom shares to those in the New Jersey area, and also offers mushroom tinctures through his website, which I have been LOVING for years now.

Mushrooms aside, this conversation was also a powerful reminder of the impact of community- and how we truly do all need each other as human beings. Such an honor to sit with this incredibly kind soul and have this conversation.

The Top 10 Life Lessons I Learned After a Cancer Diagnosis

When you receive a cancer diagnosis, the whole world as you knew it gets turned upside down. There are numerous lessons learns, heartbreaks, moments of weakness and strength and confusion and all the emotions in between.

In this episode, I discuss the Top 10 most important life lessons I've learned after receiving this diagnosis. Topics include the importance of trusting your gut with decisions, why rest is not weakness and how slowing down in life is absolutely necessary to heal your body, the importance of boundaries in your healing journey, why you are SO much more than your physical body as you go through changes during a health diagnosis like this, finding room for joy, the need to manage your STRESS, and so much more.

When we can step outside of ourselves and begin to see the life lessons we can learn and grow from in this experience, things become richer. Priorities shift. The little things become the big things and the things we once worried about fade away.

I hope that even if you do not have a diagnosis like this, you can begin to change your perspective on things in life that we worry about and focus on, and find ways to loosen the grip on your stress, support your mental health, enjoy life and find beauty in the little things.

Surgical Recovery Part 2: Patience, Humility, Slowing Down & Listening to My Body

Healing from surgery is anything but linear. There is both a physical and a mental/emotional aspect to it all, and through it I have had SEVERAL lessons including humility, practicing patience, and listening to my body in the moment to give it what it needs.

While everyone heals different from a surgery, I wanted to share my recovery process in hopes it might help someone who needs it. In this episode, I discuss meditations I did to help me mentally and also relieve my pain, physical things I did (stretching, massage, walks and also hydrodissection of the nerves to help my nerve pain; linked below) as well as what I had to surrender to- asking and receiving support, setting boundaries for my self in the healing process, going inward and doing self-check-ins, resting, and eating well to support my body's needs during this slow healing and recovery process.

If you or someone you know is about to go through a major (or minor) surgery, please share this episode with them. Sometimes we can be hard on ourselves for not being further along or healing faster in any type of life situation- but it is important we embrace the slowness, the stillness and the in between- for that is what life is all about!

When you receive a cancer diagnosis, it is truly one of the most life altering things that can happen to a person. It rocks your world, leaves you confused and if you're fortunate enough- allows you to reflect on life as you knew it and make some major changes so that YOU can create a life that supports your health.

When I first got diagnosed with a thymoma, I was SO BLESSED to find Kali Moynihan through Instagram, simply by searching "#thymoma" - she had documented her healing journey from not one, but TWO surgeries to remove her thymoma and a reccurence after having her son.

Kali is an absolute LIGHT in my life. Not only was she willing to connect with me and share resources, but since that time we've developed a friendship that not many others would understand. I am eternally grateful for her, and for her wisdom and courage to share her story.

Kali takes us through her journey from her original diagnosis at the height of the pandemic, going alone into the hospital and her first surgery, and finding the right support and resources on the other side of her surgeries to help her body TRULY heal.

She discusses the importance of advocating for yourself, finding functional medicine doctors that helped her get to the root cause of mystery illnesses and pain that she experienced for YEARS without resolution, and how things like mold exposure, inflammation and chronic pain may have contributed to her cancer diagnosis. She also discusses how she made radical changes to not just her diet, but her mindset, healed her nervous system, and changed her perspective on these lifestyle changes to make them FUN and part of her everyday life.

Kali is an example of radical healing, and I am so blessed to call her a friend and have her share her story here with you!

You can find Kali on Instagram @healwithcancer

I love you Kali! Thank you for your friendship and for sharing your story, I know this will make an impact on so many and inspire others to go inwards and support their health no matter where they are at in their journey.

Recovering from a Sternotomy and Thoracic Robotic Surgery: Part 1

Recovering from thoracic & robotic surgery has been a MAJOR lesson in patience and releasing expectations, to say the least.

In this episode, I dive into all of the things I have been doing (or not doing!) to help heal my body during recovery. I touch on topics including sleep hacks and habits to improve my sleep during recovery, how I changed my eating habits to support my healing and tissue rebuilding, my mindset shifts I have made to help me release my expectations of how this should all look, and more.

Healing is certainly not linear, and as always I try to be as transparent as possible sharing what's working for me. If you or someone you know is going through surgical recovery or has an upcoming surgery, please share this episode! I hope to share this story of mine in efforts to help someone else heal. It means the world to me!

Using Light Therapy To Heal Cancer with Dr. Leonard Kaplan

Have you ever wondered if light can treat tumor cells? What about plant medicine?

This week, I bring Dr. Leonard Kaplan to the Think Tank, an incredibly skilled and talented Terrain Doctor I had the privilege of working with on my healing journey. Dr. Kaplan is the founder of OWM Integrative Wellness in Buffalo, NY offering cutting edge treatment for cancer care, pain management, regenerative and anti-aging services and more.

Dr. Kaplan and I discuss how he puts together completely individualized treatment plans for his cancer clients, using my own journey and program as an example, where we used Photodynamic Therapy- a Weber technology that uses lasers, light and plant medicine photosensitizing agents to target tumor cells and heal our body. It's all TRULY fascinating.

Being in the care of Dr. Kaplan and his team this year has TRULY been a unique experience that I am forever grateful for and it was such an honor to reconnect with him and share more about his expertise this week with all of you!

You can learn more about Dr. Kaplan's offerings and get in touch with him directly through his website: https://owmintegrativewellness.com/

Mistletoe & Ozone Therapies for Cancer & Chronic Illness with Rebecca LaMarca, Functional NP

When it comes to metabolic cancer care, mistletoe therapy is widely used in places like Europe to improve immunity and enhance the cancer healing journey.

I am joined this week by Rebecca LaMarca, Functional Medicine Nurse Practitioner and the owner of IV Elements- a functional medicine clinic in New Jersey that provides IV medicine drips and alternative medicine services. Rebecca is trained under Dr. Nasha Winters' metabolic approach, and has been a certified provider of mistletoe therapy since 2023 under Believe Big and PAAM.

In this episode, we discuss the various types of mistletoe plants, how the patient bonds with the mistletoe treatment, and its effectiveness in helping support a cancering journey and healing process.

Rebecca is also trained in the Zotzmann ozone machine offering 10-pass hyperbaric ozone, EBOO and other procedures that help people with co-infections, inflammation, autoimmune issues and biofilm issues that can be contributing to a cancer diagnosis.

Rebecca is SO full of wisdom, I'm excited to share her knowledge with you this week! Please see below for how to get in touch with IV Elements- they ship mistletoe throughout the U.S- and I am excited to be offering 5% off first time mistletoe treatment for all podcast listeners when you mention my name, Jamie Mazza, or the FWD Think Tank Podcast.
