In this clip from our Saturday Stream, we cover the heartbreaking story of Marcus Fakana, aged 19, the UK teen who was jailed in Dubai for roughly a year after engaging in a romantic relationship with a 17-year-old girl while on holiday.
His case drew widespread attention online, and many saw it as an unjust application of law. Thanks in part to advocacy and diplomatic efforts, Marcus was eventually granted a royal pardon from the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and returned to the UK in July.
Tragically, just three months into his newfound freedom, Marcus was involved in a police pursuit in North London. The vehicle he was in collided with another vehicle, and despite medical efforts, he passed away in hospital.
