2023 is already being touted as the year that video game adaptions are taken seriously, even when the adaption isn't meant to be serious. In comes the Super Mario Bros. movie spearheaded by the polished animation of Illumination Studios and the controversial casting of its voice talent. Having grown up in love with Nintendo's games and then subsequently "breaking up" with them in recent years over their anti-consumer practices, I feel quite adept to deliver a fair and non-bias take on what's likely the first of the Nintendo Cinmatic Universe.

My first Day 1 release of the year, and its a remake of a game I'm in the minority of not really liking: Resident Evil 4. However, since I've been adiment that if they could blend the gameplay and feel of the RE2 remake with Leon's visit to Spain and the lore behind Las Plagas....we might have a winner. Its been 84 years...or at least its felt like it, since the first Avatar released and promise of sequels were made by filmmaker James Cameron. Now, the tech has advanced to fulfill Cameron's vision for the franchise and the land of Pandora carries on. But even over a decade since my criticism of the first films story and character development, it looks like not much has progressed outside of the VFX tech.

Ragnarök has come to an end for me after 40 hours, and I can certainly say this is a game worth thinking about, talking about, and break down in the most introspective way. No spoilers will be revealed here, and though I can't compare it directly to Elden Ring since I haven't played it yet, I can definitely say its the Godfather Part II of the gaming industry thus far. However, that might not mean what you think...

Phase 4 of the MCU comes to a close with a somber and poignant turn as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever serves as both a touching tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman while also cementing Wakanda's powerful importance in the big picture of the Marvel Universe. However, its second act remembers to be a Marvel movie as well, proving the film to fall short of the height its processor was naturally able to achieve. Here's my review of Wakanda Forever with a spoiler segment at the end.

Coming out of my podcasting hiatus for the exact reason I was itching for: a damn quality video game. After heavy deliberation for the past week, I decided to take action on what I was referring to in regards to the future of the podcast and the logistics of creating it. Funny enough, it looks like I wasn't the only one making a definitive decision this week, as tech giant Google finally and predictably is pulling the plug on their Stadia game streaming service. The lifelong battle between creative and business decisions loomed large over the content world this past week, as Twitch announced a 50/50 split with partners, anger the majority of their community in the process, while Youtube announced new forms of monetization. Are we facing a monopoly within the content creation space? Those decisions may have bled into the comic book movie world, as Deadpool 3 is confirmed for a 2024 release along with the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine....but is this really what we want? Also, my reviews for She-Hulk once more, why Andor should be your next Star Wars show, even if you did hate Obi-Wan and my reaction to the Last of Us HBO show trailer.

Despite not intending it so, we have another thicc episode about one of the thiccest video game leaks in recent memory, including a rather thicc-looking protagonist. Severe apologies for the late episode; the one-two punch combo of a ton of new announcements and reveals for movies and games this week, along with my dad being on vacation, triggering the whole fam to not only be home but also be LOUD throughout the the house, made it incredibly difficult to record. Finally, I got the episode wrapped and ready to go. The titans of gaming, Sony and Nintendo, brought us a Direct and State of Play on the SAME DAY, at the last minute to boot. This week marks one year since the launch of the DarkspiderCast, and to celebrate, we have....a rather tame episode. However, I like to call it the calm before the storm, as my spidey senses are tingling at the thought of the long-rumoured Sony Playstation showcase and Nintendo Direct peering over the horizon--and that's already on top of the confirmed D23 expo stuff, the Disney+Marvel Games showcase (which has already gone down at the time this goes up) and Ubisoft's Forward presentation. In an ironic twist, despite feeling alot better to bring you a more, full-length episode, it turns out what me and the girlfriend thought was a cold was the "It Which Should Not Be Named" virus, so at the time of recording, we are in isolation. I was getting scared that this week's episode was going to be pushed considering the things that's been going on at home as well as me and the girlfriend's anniversary trip out of town. Every time Rockstar makes a game, let alone release any kind of marketing on that game, it becomes an event for all of social media to talk about it, from both gamers and non-gamers alike. However, its difficult to internalize and envelope-pushing title like GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 to be made in the current social climate. Is this a legitimate concern stemming from the recent leaks surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI's development? Also, we had EVO this past week with reveals, news and comfy battles, news of Midnight Suns getting delayed and Beyond Good and Evil BARELY getting a lead writer---really??
