Reinsert Smoke - Recapping and repairing C64s

Did all the smoke come out of your Commodore 64, and now it won't work? As you know, electronic components are all full of smoke, and if it comes out, they won't work anymore. This is an old electricians' joke about electronics burning up... they say "All the smoke came out."

In this episode, we talk about repairing the Commodore 64 by replacing capacitors, voltage regulators, and chips. It isn't hard, and it can eliminate instability. If your C64 won't work at all, locating and replacing the bad chip(s) can bring it back to life. An accompanying video is on our Youtube channel, and linked from the C64Show.com website.
