Hey besties! This week I am back with a review of Lore by Alexandra Bracken, one of my favorite reads of the year so far! Follow along as we dive into the Agon, a week long event that happens every seven years where nine Greek gods and goddesses are forced to walk the earth as mortals and be hunted by descendants of well known Greek heroes. During this event we meet a girl named Lore Perseous, who walked away from the Agon seven years ago after her family was murdered and left behind everything she had ever known. She refuses to go back to this life but gets swept up in this world once again when Athena, the goddess of wisdom, shows up on her front steps, mortally wounded and offering her the ability to avenge her family and walk away from the world of the Agon forever. The Odyssey meets The Hunger Games in this story of learning to let go, not be afraid, and trusting in yourself when everything is against you.
I also dive into the Greek myth that I thought of while reading the story, the story of Medusa and how she became to be as we know her, and how throughout time how women and men are portrayed differently in Greek hero myths. I found both of these things to be super relevant and give more insight to the historical connotations of the story of Lore Perseous. I also love how Alexandra Bracken gave us the story of a female Greek hero that can revisited over and over again, like the hero stories that came before her's.

Hello friends! I'm kicking off 2021 with Love & Olives by young adult author Jenna Evans Welch, a personal favorite of mine. She whisked me off to a the cool blue beaches of Santorini, Greece and a search for the lost city of Atlantis. This search follows Liv Varanakis as she reconnects with her father, who fled to Greece when she was eight to search for Atlantis. Like Liv on her journey, I laughed, I cried, I geeked out over Atlantis theories. In this episode, I give a small taste of the rollercoaster that Liv goes on during her ten days in Santorini and I could not have loved it more.
