The proliferation of technology has hastened the process of change around us. The world around us is changing so fast that the institutions that societies have created to make decisions and to provide services for the betterment of people, often seem out of sync with the present day world. And this dissonance between the ever-changing aspirations of people and the sluggish social, political and economic institutions of the society compels people to unite for change. The modern history is abundant with examples of such movements for change. Nepali people have also had their own share of struggles in bringing about the change in the society. In this episode, I look at how the great thirst for change among the Nepali people has shaped the Nepali politics in the last fifty years and try to figure out if that same thirst for change can provide some sort of explanation to the recent phenomenon of the independent candidates winning the local level elections of the key cities in Nepal.
