X-Men First Class is here and so that means we get to talk about one of our favorite things - Drafting a brand-new set! We have a XFC 6-Pack, concerns about product distribution, and an in-depth look at how XFC drafts and what we can expect at our stores - and perhaps the WKOs as well. This time on The Attack Zone, we take a look at playtesting, guided by one of the best at doing this - Mike! You heard JT say it on the last episode: "It's scary playing Mike because you know that before you sit down, he's played this matchup 100 times." Let's get an idea of the method behind the madness. Plus, a Guardians of the Galaxy six-pack and some Q&A from viewers. This episode was recorded during a Twitch broadcast, which featured some enhanced features (like card images during the six pack and other discussion) as well as chat interaction. Welcome back to The Attack Zone, Dicefans. It's been a while since we've had the chance to talk about draft, so that's exactly what Dave and JT have done this week! We're looking at twelve packs from the Batman set and we'll determine what picks we like and what we're going to pass on for later on down the line. The post-show discussion ends up being about a plethora of board games! Thanks for listening, and we'll see you in two weeks! Want to correspond? It's TAZ time once more. We give Mike a shot to catch up on his goal setting (see 4x01 for more details) and then dive in to the topic: Tweaking teams. How do we make the decision when adding modifying teams to improve flexibility and cover up holes? And how do we stay flexible when playing them? Oh - and don't fret! The Six Pack is slated to return next time! Want to correspond? Mailbag@thereservepool.com, @TheReservePool on Twitter, and of course our blogs and forums at www.thereservepool.com.
We've decided to align TAZ to the competitive Dice Masters seasons, and so we change to Season 4! One year ago, give or take, we sat down and took a critical look at ourselves, delving into our strengths and weaknesses and also setting goals that we wanted to accomplish by the end of the next competitive season. Now that the season is over, it's time to reflect on our progress and set some new goals to focus on for 2017-18. We'll also give some sweet stuff away to a few of our patrons - thanks to everyone for your support, whether you donate or just listen. We appreciate it! Want to correspond? Mailbag@thereservepool.com, @TheReservePool on Twitter, and of course our blogs and forums at www.thereservepool.com.
Excitement abounds! Batman has been released and you can find out if we love it or hate it! Spoiler - we LOVE it. A Batman six pack follows a giveaway to a groovy Patron and then, Dave, Randy, and Mike discuss all of the excellent things to come at Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio. June is shaping up to be pretty great! Want to correspond? Mailbag@thereservepool.com, @TheReservePool on Twitter, and of course our blogs and forums at www.thereservepool.com.
That Batman release... it's so close, and yet so not before we had to record for this week! However, we know for a fact that some upcoming WKO3s are using the Deadpool set, so Dave and Mike come together to break down a twelve pack of Deadpool, give our impressions on some aspects of the draft format and where some of the cards might fit - even if they aren't necessarily first picks. The April Patreon winner will also be announced. Check out more at http://patreon.com/theattackzone. Thanks for listening, and we'll see you in two weeks! Want to correspond? While it might be easy to get lost in the shuffle with WKO3 and Origins right around the corner, PDC Prime is in full swing, with many stores holding or about to hold events. Michaela recently competed in a Prime tournament in St. Louis and joins Dave, giving her thoughts on the format, the deck she used, and what we can expect moving forward. Want to correspond? It's a Deadpool six pack on this week's Attack Zone, complete with more foils and a rare to give away to our fantastic Patreon backers. Then, Dave, JT, and Mike look at analyzing threats on the other side of the board - both in terms of recognizing win conditions, things that will disrupt your own plans, and what you do when you've figured out what side of the beatdown you're on. Thanks for listening, and we'll see you in two weeks! Want to correspond? Mailbag@thereservepool.com, @TheReservePool on Twitter, and of course our blogs and forums at www.thereservepool.com.
We love draft, we've played draft a lot - heck, we talk about draft on every episode in the form of the six pack! But how should we change our approach when drafts aren't just an event done locally for the denizens of your store, but have sweet PDC Playmats or a US Nationals invite on the line? Dave and Mike take a look at this topic. But first, the Six Pack and our February Patreon winners - including the winner of those sweet foil WKO prizes that we procured. Check out http://www.patreon.com/theattackzone for all the details on our giveaways. Thanks for listening, and we'll see you in two weeks! Want to correspond? If you're looking for the Attack Zone, you're looking on the right Tuesday! This week, it's like the old days - Just Dave and Randy - as JT and Mike are dealing with their DM related travels from regional tournaments. It's a jampacked show today, as we cover both the recent rotation news and how we think it will impact competitive play. Then we talk about tactical play in Dice Masters connected to a classic - perhaps THE classic - CCG article: "Who's the Beatdown?" Dave talks about why he was wrong, Randy agrees with him, and good times are had by all. Thanks for listening, and we'll see you in two weeks! Want to correspond? It's another Attack Zone! We're in the midst of the Winter phase of the WizKids Open events and people around the country are clamoring for their Nationals invites and their sweet, sweet prizes. This past weekend, Dave, Isaac, and Stuart were all at events, and so Dave gives his usual cohosts the fortnight off for recovery and invites these two to talk all about it. We also will announce the January Patreon winner - you can find out about that at www.patreon.com/theattackzone - and some very special prizes for the month of February in celebration of the WizKids Open events! This is no ordinary episode of The Attack Zone! Joining us this week is a special guest, five-time WizKids Open winner and 2016 US National Runner-Up, Mike Plumb! After walking our way through a World's Finest Six-Pack, we break down an archetypical team that we expect to see at the Spring opens, one piloted by community member Michaela to a WKO victory of her own. Here's the team: http://dm.retrobox.eu/?view&cards=3x137jl;3x47fus;3x86gaf;3x54fus;2x113fus;3x15fus;2x14wf;1x108gaf;3x28uxm;3x136bff If your podcatcher can't pick up that link, you can also find it on the TRP site.
