It's the end of the year and B-ry has decided to make a list of positive changes he would like to see in himself... LOL... JOKES... He found an article about Australia at the bottom end of the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) for discipline and he's pissed off. Second last episode of the year and B-ry has kicked off over Education Queensland's new policy on "inclusivity."  "Inclusivity" they have decided in their infinite wisdom is basically making it harder for kids to get suspended. Less suspensions = More inclusive right?  The boys dissect this issue with all the incredible insight you've come to expect from Teacher Yarns (2 dickheads having a chat over FaceTime.) Schools in QLD are moving to a four day work week and B-ry has some opinions. Shock. We go over the positives and negatives and what that would mean for teachers, students and parents.  B-ry was obviously upset they didn't ask any teachers about this change but hey, what's new? Ben woke up the morning of this recording, walked downstairs and found B-ry with his nose in a newspaper. B-ry looked up and his first words were... "Fire up the podcast gear! I've found 3 articles that have cheesed me right off!" Episode 68 was born... The boys talk about the change in kid's dream jobs, new University recruitment policies and victimhood becoming a currency.  Hope you've had a good week legends.

Ben is back on the Sunshine Coast and he's set B-ry a challenge. That challenge is...  To write a list of his top 10 favourite things about teaching. Did he get all 10?... Almost. Did he also make a negative list?... Of course. Meet Chris Matheson!  A self proclaimed naughty kid at school, turned electrician, turned full time stunt man. He went from being a sparky, to studying acting at night school, to working as a stuntman at movie world, to being Chris Hemsworth's stunt double. This is another ripper conversation proving that education doesn't end at grade 12!!! Thanks for the yarn Chris.

On this weeks episode we cover mental health.  In the ever increasing stress put upon teachers, talking about mental health is important now more than ever. We also cover other important topics like toilet locks and trying to take a shit at school. Was awesome to hear B-ry opening up about his bout with depression, what to look out for and what he did to get out of it. Maren May moved form Germany to Australia in 2010 and is one of the fastest up and coming comics in Melbourne. We learn all about Maren's life and schooling in Germany and how their education system teaches the history of WW2.  She also openly spoke about her tenuous relationship with her grandad who also fought in the war. It was a super interesting chat and thank you to Maren for being so open and candid with all the questions. Go check it out, this one's a ripper!

Welcome back to Term 4!!! We've got a ripper episode for you!!! Ty Gray is a fantastic stand up comedian and ALSO... A substitute secondary teacher. He studied Law and Performing Arts graduating with a masters in secondary education and then escaped the Melbourne lockdowns, heading straight to the Northern Territory to teach for 2 years. He just crushed his first run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and has fought of jet lag to come and spin some awesome yarns with B-ry and Ben. We're still at Teacher Yarns headquarters and B-ry had the genius idea to ask Ben about his schooling.  From crying because he couldn't skip in prep to wagging school and bum puffing joints in grade 12.  It's a real waltz down memory lane starting as a RAAF brat to grade 12 class clown. Shoutout to Ben's grade 4 teacher Mrs Bergheim who we found out after the podcast had passed away a few years earlier.

B-ry picked Ben up from Sunshine Coast airport and they've raced straight home to do a face to face episode in the "Teacher Yarns Studio."   The boys talk about the teacher strikes currently happening in SA. Teachers are demanding a pay increase AND a solution to the current workloads and complex classes.   They also discuss an amazing study on praising kids intellectual achievements VS effort. B-ry has got a gripe. SHOCK... He read a couple of sentences in an article that some education big wig wrote about how teachers should all be teaching to the A standard and decided he'd weigh in. We also read out some emails and messages (WE LOVE THEM) and thank you so much for sending them in. Keep the yarns coming. We bloody love reading them and depending on how many we get next week we may even look at making some TEACHER YARNS merch. Woohoo xo

Nicola Bernardi is an incredible, self-taught photographer with a love of languages. All the way from Milan, Italy he is one of Ben's best mates and B-ry's adopted son. We absolutely loved having a yarn with him and it's great to have him back in the country. We talk about his schooling (5 person primary school) and how schooling works in Italy and B-ry gets huffy puffy over technology.

"Lady Di" is a primary school teacher at a catholic school and a friend of Carmel's. (B-ry's better half) She studied teaching as a mature aged student but claims she wasn't one of the annoying ones.  Had a lovely yarn with her, thanks for coming in and chatting "Lady Di."
