NOTE: From The Archives

Having a baby is one of the most precious event a woman can go through. It’s life changing.  But when you're faced with postpartum depression, that joy can be taken away from you and the family.

Postpartum is a topic that not many women care to talk about. It seems so unmotherly. Yet as Leslie McKeough, a licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in postpartum adjustment and perinatal loss shared with us, close to 90% of women today will suffer some form of postpartum depression.

Leslie's approach combines support, education and counseling.  She often works with women and their partners in the recovery process as postpartum difficulties affect the whole family.  She also has several years experience working with adolescents and families.

If you or someone you know suffers from postpartum depression, go to www.corevalu.com or visit https://www.postpartum.net/ to find out where you can get help today.

Maximizing College Opportunities for Stepchildren: From Scholarships to Crafting Compelling Essays With Mindi Trimble

Are you wondering how to pay for your kids or stepkids college? Do you know about the recent changes in FAFSA application and the impact it has on divorced parents and blended families?

What are the best strategies that will give your student the best changes of getting accepted to the college?

Let’s find out on The Stepmom Wisdom Circle

Here’s a bit more about Mindi

Described as “the bubble wrap of life & college coaching,” Mindi Trimble encourages college-bound students to POP with fun, stress-relieving ideas for navigating their educational journeys using the Majorly Determined method inside her multi-year Accepted Academy program.

She then makes sure they don’t POP under pressure by coaching them through carefully chosen coursework and self-directed experiences—all culminating in personality-filled applications that get put in the ‘yes’ pile.

Besides increasing acceptance rates, working with Mindi has been known to yield college financial offers ranging from five to thirty times her students’ investment in her programs.

When not singing her students’ praises, Mindi's flexing her Phi Beta Kappa-from-UC Berkeley skills at trivia nights, hiking with her family and German Sheagle, or using her formal opera training to make up silly versions of soprano arias.

Stepmom Wisdom: Role Models, Recognition, and Resilience: Finding Strength and Positivity in Your Stepmom Journey

In this episode, we're diving into some key aspects of:

  • The Role and Recognition of a Stepmom: We talk about the struggles of many stepmoms who don't feel acknowledged for the motherly roles they play and the importance of recognition coming from your partner.
  • Role Model Mode: We focus on the essence of being a stepmom - setting positive examples for the children. More than the semantics, it's about the impact you're making in their lives.
  • Grace Under Pressure: We reflect on the importance of handling challenging situations with grace and dignity, a key part of being a stepmom.
  • Ignoring Stereotypes, Embracing Impact: We delve into the importance of overlooking societal labels and focusing on the positive influence you have on your stepchildren's lives.

Brenda Ockun, founder and publisher of StepMom Magazine—the how-to guide for any woman who dates, lives with, or is married to someone who has kids, and a fellow stepmom, shares her wisdom on these areas.

We also discuss the importance of partner support, and how your grace under pressure, your responses, and actions are observed and valued by your stepchildren.
