S4E1: Mimotype Technologies | Claudio Flores | Bio-inspired OLEDs
Mimotype is a developer and vendor of bio-inspired performance materials. Our core skills: Initiating and steering end-to-end innovation cycles in the domain of bio-inspired materials research. The bioeconomy is about realigning production methods and supply chains with the vision of an ecologically seamless world economy. A deepened understanding of biology at the nanoscale will allow first-movers to become the technology leaders of the 21st century. We have a prime candidate for a materials blockbuster in our material pipeline. Our focus is on a peptide – i.e. a mini-protein – that acts as the luminescent agent for the light-emission of marine life, a phenomenon known as "bioluminescence". We extract the genetic blueprint of said target molecule and then have genetically programmed bacteria produce the substance for us. The material obtained in this way is to be used for OLED displays and adjacent applications. In this industrial sector, there is a lack of high-performance emitter materials for the blue colour spectrum. If our stratagem works out, we will become the market leader in supplying a critical component for the display industry. Moreover, in the long term, our approach can bring about a profound reshaping of the OLED technology mix. This will result in our materials IP becoming increasingly embedded in the value network of the target market. Thanks to enormous advances in gene sequencing, exponentially increasing computing power and new gene-editing tools, humans have become core developers in the source code of life. As an investment thesis, Mimotype is a bet on an unconventional German biotech that reverse-engineers high-performance materials from nature's open source code. Find out more about Mimotype Technologies by visiting Mimotype LinkedIn For questions or comments, please email us at info@inam.berlin. Also, if you or someone you know would like to be a guest on our show, we welcome any and all suggestions!
