This final episode of Season 3 features an interview with Lucky Cerruti, a NY-based indie horror director whose newest film, Boxcutter, is one doozy of an ambitious feature. Feeling more like an anguish-filled grindhouse drama than a schlocky horror flick, Cerruti has taken a huge leap forward making for a highly compelling chat. We delve into the traumas that inspired the script, his directorial methods, and why this is such a groundbreaking achievement for him. We also got to talk shop about current death metal obsessions and then wrapped things up with one of the most provocative questionnaire conversations ever to happen on the show. Check it out!

Warning: Lots of potty-mouthed humour in this episode.
This episode features a chat with Victor Gabriel, indie horror director and head honcho of RFN Pictures. As RFN stands for Reel F**kin' Nightmares, expect a lot of swears and a lot of silly vulgar humour, but also expect a fun chat! Victor's previous film "Blood Gorge" was a retro slasher homage and a gory hoot, but his next feature, "Hellmare", looks to take his ambitions to a whole new level. Built off of an incredibly entertaining concept, as well as Gabriel's trademark gory hijinks and crass humour, I'm just foaming at the mouth to see this when it finally hits the big screen! We had to keep this one short due to technical difficulties, but the homie Victor will be back. Check it out!

This episode features a discussion on films about Pain with two returning guests, Dr. Ethan Lyon and Jetta Weinstein! We cover Stephen Dwoskin's documentary on various examples of pain, "Pain Is..." (1997); Monika Treut & Elfi Mikesch's fictional tale of S&M power dynamics in "Seduction: The Cruel Woman" (1985); and Kirby Dick's documentary on Bob Flanagan, the masochistic performance artist who died from cystic fibrosis, in "Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist" (1997). All 3 of us offer wildly different takes and analysis of these challenging and provocative films. It's a compelling episode, to say the least!

This episode features an interview with Balraj Kang, an indie horror filmmaker based out of the UK. We had a fantastic chat about his latest film, The Birdwatcher, as well as diving into his South Asian heritage, his meeting with the Ramsay Brothers, our takes on the state of modern theatre audiences, and so much more. His future projects sound absolutely wild and we really hit it off, so he will definitely be back. Check it out!

This episode sees the return of Dakota Noot and his husband Christopher Velasco, two LA-based artists that have been taking the deepest dive into Japanese pink films. With their podcast, Two in the Pinku, they've been documenting their discoveries, and now Dakota's writings on pink films have started to pop up in releases, such as 88 Film's most recent blu-ray of Tokyo Emmanuelle. With the announcement that Dakota is starting to work on a book on gay pink films, naturally I needed to have these two maniacal experts on to expand my perception of one of the most transgressive and intriguing genres to ever exist. This episode features long-time friend of the show, Fred Barrett! Fred is a writer based out of Germany with some of the most fascinating film analysis and he's come on to wax off about Abel Ferrara. I've been a huge fan of Ferrara's earlier moody genre flicks and grindhouse bangers (King of New York, Ms. 45, etc) but I've struggled to get into most of his work post-Bad Lieutenant. Fred and I cover all of his eras in chronological order, leading to a poignant discussion about how to approach these challenging and highly subjective films. Check it out!

This episode features an interview with Philly-based "mumblegore" filmmaker, Brewce Longo! Brewce has been churning out wild horror flicks that have a unique mix of drama and hangout vibes setting them apart. His latest, Vick & Tarstar's Scarecrow Factory, dives even deeper with a meta take on filmmaking that shows both the slimier side and the disappointing side of low-budget productions. We talk shop about 90's teen horror, SOV cinema, and eating bugs. Check it out & go to one of the screenings for his latest film!

This episode features a lengthy discussion with Weird Alice, a Toronto-based drag queen, filmmaker, and film programmer! Alice will be presenting 3 highly salacious flicks at the Paradise: Wakefield Poole's Bijou (Aug 2), Showgirls (Aug 8), and Castration Movie Pt 1(Aug 31). We dove into her wild experiences programming some of the most naughty and/or campy brain-scrambling movies over the past decade and how she came to earn the title of "Toronto's Cinematic Smut Peddler".

This episode features the return of Daniel Valient from White Gardenia along with frequent collaborator Celeste Henry, aka Blucifer. Both artists operate in the extreme horror underground, with White Gardenia gaining notoriety for their unsimulated acts of self-harm. However, they're here to promote something tamer in content yet far more eerie and singular. "The King James Bible" is a chilling and dizzying adaptation of the bible, woven together by various artists and culminating in something unlike anything I've seen before. Daniel and Celeste touch on their intentions, obsessions, and future projects in this highly fascinating chat. Unfortunately due to technical difficulties the episode isn't as long as I would hope for, but all the same this is a provocative and compelling discussion that hopefully will pique your interest.

This episode features an interview with Ryan Verrill from The Disc-Connected! Well, less an interview and more just a friendly chat between two dudes with similar experiences and passions. Before arriving at some exciting news about upcoming blu-ray releases that Ryan helped to produce, we somehow end up talking about hardcore punk, house shows, politics, and I'm sure lots of other stuff we were excited to dive into that may or may not have had anything to do with blu-rays. It's a good time and a good chat and I swear there is eventually some talk about movies! Check it out!

This episode features the return of So-Cal Splatter King, Stephen Grischuk! Grischuk is the head honcho of Box Creep films, churning out some of the wackiest lo-fi genre flicks, including his most recent banger: Battle Jacket. Inspired by his love for metal but containing a surprising amount of heavy themes, Grischuk and I had a pretty fascinating chat delving into all of the BTS lore and touching on some of his favourite metal anthems. It's always a blast having this Cali chum on, so check it out!

This episode features a thorough chat with Brandon Lim, Toronto-based programmer of Black Belt Cinema at the Revue, as well as musician, writer, and designer. Brandon takes us through the Black Belt origin story, from projecting films on a parking lot wall to packing the Revue every month with these fascinating cult gems. We also have a pretty healthy chat about Toronto rep cinemas in general, so if you're a fan of movies AND going to the movies, this will be right up your alley. Check it out!

This episode features a provocative discussion of the underrated Japanese director, Shinji Sōmai. I've got excellent film writer Jerry McGlothlin on to discuss his works and recurring themes. Starting off with his recently restored Typhoon Club, I was drawn to Sōmai's unique and meditative take on the harsh coming-of-age film. Turns out that's a constant mode for him, with other films like P.P. Rider, Sailor Suit & Machine Gun, and Moving all delivering their own stabs at that painful loss of innocence. It was a fantastic chat and I hope it urges you to check out some of his films! Dive in!

This episode features a long-time friend of the pod, Canadian filmmaker Anthony Leroy. Along with his company, Elytra Collective, Leroy has been popping out some of the zaniest and most ambitious SOV horror/comedy shorts I've ever laid my eyes on. After his most recent film, "BUM", scraped my brain with its hilarious antics and surprisingly kaleidoscopic stylization (Tsukamoto anyone?), I just had to have this talented goofball on! Expect lots of laughs and lots of future projects spilled like a truck full of beans! Check it out!

This episode I'm joined by Jeroen Bijil, the host of Horrible Reviews! Jeroen's fascinating YouTube channel has been dishing out prolific videos covering so many types of films, but his bread and butter is DISTURBING MOVIES. He's gained a massive following diving into some of the most upsetting, horrific, and provocative films out there, so naturally he's got quite a perspective on it. I also appreciate how open-minded and critical he is, not at all a narrow-minded cinephile but a curiously adventurous consumer of all types of movies. We focused especially on "The Coffee Table", "Melancholie Der Engel", and "Larva Mental", but those were just perfect jumping off points to go even further down the rabbit hole. Our chat was a blast and I can't wait to get him back on!

This episode I've got SOV filmmaker Susana Kapostasy on to talk about her most recent film, The Emasculator, as well as her previous work, Night of the Zodiac & Metal Maniac. Susana is a one-of-a-kind true artist, brimming with knowledge of exploitation cinema, making amazing comparisons between Italian Neo-Realism to SOV horror but also throwing her Thanksgiving meal onto a plate of nachos for true decadence. She's also a vet tech too with plenty of gnarly stories under her belt. I learned a lot, I laughed a lot, and I'm officially on the Susana Kapostasy train. Can't wait to see what she does next! And we're back! For the first episode of Season 3, Louise Weard has returned to talk about her expansive harsh indie drama, Castration Movie Part 1 & 2. Like Mike Leigh or RW Fassbinder strained through a DIY Dogme95 sensibility multiplied by queer punk rock urgency, Part 1 was 4+ hours of nuanced character studies that resonated in the most unflinching way. Louise is just about to film Part 2, so we dove into the whole universe she's been creating. We also recorded this the day of David Lynch's death, so we open with a touching tribute to this cinematic genius.
Check it out then set aside a day to watch this lo-fi masterpiece!

Make way for the final episode of Season 2! This time I had quite a sprawling chat about British horror with Dr. Ethan Lyon, whose PhD in Film Studies and British heritage gave us a hefty dose of things to talk about. As selected by Ethan, we cover "The Dark Eyes of London" (1939), "Horrors of the Black Museum" (1959), "The Plague of the Zombies" (1966), "Apaches" (1977), and "Hellraiser" (1987). Diving into issues such as repression, class, sadism, and all other fun stuff that comes with the evolution of UK Horror. Chatting with Ethan was a real treat and I can't wait to have him back on!

This episode features an interview with David Stepanavicius from Atræ Bilis. Their latest album, “Aumicide” (20 Buck Spin), is a dazzling journey through the cerebral heights of "Spiritually Dissonant Death Metal". When David isn’t shredding riffs, he’s also slinging bootleg horror tees with his new venture, Fulci Rots. David and I chat about the state of death metal, writing with psychedelics, and Todd Solondz. Was a blast chatting with him, can’t wait to have him back on! Check it out!

This episode features an interview with Samm Deighan, a writer, film historian, podcaster, and special features content producer for Vinegar Syndrome. Samm's latest book, "Revolutions in 35mm", is a fascinating collection of essays from various writers all focusing on political violence and resistance in cinema. We chat about this passion project of hers, spending time specifically on the Japanese New Wave chapter that she wrote called "Cruel Stories of Youth". This is easily one of the most political and informative episodes so far, getting to chat with Samm Deighan was a real treat and an honour!
