Hosts Dave Merrill, Madi Denton and Pastor Charity Goodwin discuss the notion that church can sometimes feel boring. They share their tips and tricks for breaking through boredom to a refreshed faith practice.
"Fresh Take" is our June sermon series here at The Gathering, where we are highlighting new voices and new takes on the most contentious stories of the Bible. Dave and Madi both touch on some of the points they bring up in their sermons, while Jeff chimes in as an outside viewer of the series. The fresh takes we have already heard in the series have opened the door to paths of thought for how we interact with each other -- especially outside of the church setting -- and explore our interpersonal and spiritual relationships. Where have we struggled? Where can we grow? Jesus doesn't answer these questions directly. He answers them with a story -- a parable. The answers we take from those stories are up to us.
Why does getting rid of stuff work? What’s behind the drive to simplify? Why do so many people “get” Marie Kondo? In the "Beyond Simple" edition of Sleeping on Sunday, Madi, Dave, and Jeff explore what how "de-cluttering" our lives can help us practically and spiritually.
In this episode, the Sleeping on Sunday team discuss the importance of understanding our identity. They expand on The Gathering's current sermon series, No Filter, and take a shot at answering the question, "Why does identity matter?"
In this episode, hosts Dave Merrill, Jeff Allen and Madi Denton talk all things Easter. They discuss their relationship to the holiday, and name some ways we might engage the tradition in a new, life-giving way. They break down Easter as literal, Easter as metaphorical, and Easter as something in the middle. If you're looking for the relevancy of resurrection in your life, this is the episode for you.
