Three are 3 klipot that separates a person from G-d. The first attacks him in the head. The second gets him in the heart. And the third which is the worst of all. It seeks to winnow its way into a persons' being, to demoralize him and throw him into full-fledged retreat. Our Sages said: “Every generation for which the Temple is not rebuilt, it is as though the Temple was destroyed for that generation." Rebbe Nachman explained that a fast has the power to transform spiritual darkness into light. Rebbe Nachman said "You may be influenced by false motives and distracted by many outside thoughts when you pray. Ignore them completely." (Rebbe Nachman's Wisdom #12, #26: Tzaddik #590) Do your part and say all the prayers in order, ignoring all disturbing thoughts. Rebbe Nachman teaches: A Jew's main attachment to G-d is through prayer (Likutey Moharan II, 84). Hitbodedut is on a very high level, indeed a level above all levels (Likutey Moharan II, 25). Even if you can’t open your mouth at all, just the fact that you stand there putting your hope in God, lifting your eyes upwards and forcing yourself to speak and even if you say no more than a single word the entire time – all this endures forever (Likutey Moharan II, 95-101 etc.).
