Episode 4: Religion

Welcome back to another action packed episode of philosophical intrigue  and discussion! See how James and Justin (or is it Justin and James?)  navigate the waters of religion, through the lens of a social  institution and of a state. We trust this episode was created with all  necessary prudence for you to enjoy.

Filling the Gaps Ep 3.5: Abortion

Watch how James and Justin trudge through the delicate and charged topic of abortion. With discussions of the moral value of having children, having an abortion, and more, this episode will be leaving you asking deeper questions about your personal thoughts on the issue.

We feel that this is one of our strongest episodes thus far because of our differences; they show through in our arguments and root assumptions about moral value. This emphasizes, again, that Sapientia is, at its very heart, a conversation. We want to hear from you, so feel free to leave a comment, send a Facebook message, or, if you're really froggy, a carrier pigeon.

Episode 3 - Feminism and the Male Identity Crisis

James and Justin try to tackle feminism broadly and the male identity crisis specifically. We explore some of the history and trends of feminism and explain some buzzwords that are frequently used and misunderstood. After that, we dive into how men are increasingly becoming confused, isolated, and lost in our society - and how this is potentially feminist issue.

FtG Episode 2.5 - The Gender Pay Gap

The wage gap has been a hot point for plenty of discussion over the last few years. Watch as James and Justin through some statistics out there and clarify the issue, as well as reflect on how it came about and what we might do to bring it to an end. Also we film in my basement now!

Watch our pretty faces and funny gestures too! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCw5ZGaU0kLVm1mpcubrDDCA

Episode 2 - Economics and Economies

James and Justin dig through the quagmire of economic theory and philosophy to uncover how we ought to structure economies. We take a tour through the various economic theories, starting with capitalism and moving through communism and socialism. We discuss what they are, broadly speaking, and the relative merits of each. We then discuss specifics, like the stock market, globalism, and nationalism, and how these relate to the political and social circumstances in which these economies exist. We leave off on where we personally lie on these questions and an invitation for future topics on economic problems. While neither of us are experts, we hope you'll get something out of this as we try to break down these exceptionally complex ideas and as always, feel free to email us as sapientiaphilosophy@gmail.com for criticism, comments, or concerns.

Filling the Gap - New England Clean Energy Connect

James and Justin fill the gap between Climate Change and Economies using a real example, the New England Clean Energy Connect. We go through what the project is, what it's ecological impact is, and how the economic incentives facing CMP and Hydro-Quebec relate to that. This transitions us into economies as we realize that ecology and economy are intimately related. This relatedness will be a running theme through the economies episode.

Note: We had accidentally called it the Northeast Clean Energy Connect, where we meant the New England Clean Energy Connect. It's typically referred to by just its abbreviation, NECEC.

Episode 1 - Climate Change

Here it is, the first episode! Justin and James explore the various ways in which climate change has been presented, studied, and questioned. They move through the beginnings and the original notions of global warming, to problems facing our past 30 years of continuous effort to make change happen in pollution, and finally a look into where we must turn to solve the problem.

Have a topic idea? Send us an email at sapientiaphilosophy@gmail.com, respond to us on Facebook, or vote on Patreon. Be sure to tune in next month (September 1) for another exciting episode!

Corrections: at about 55:30, James meant to say the units of radiation exposure are Millisieverts, but instead had a mental block and something not quite right came out.
