Refresh My Memory – Sneaky Dragon Remix!

Gather ‘round Sneakers as the Refresh My Memory hosts cast their memories back a day to Sneaky Dragon’s 700th episode and try to do an episode of their own on some of the same topics. Will it be as good? They guarantee it will be shorter.

Eric Fell, Jason Dedrick and Vicky Van are even kind enough to make a Sneaky Dragon tribute drink called The Leaky Flagon. How do you make it?

* Rim a milkshake glass with crushed Trix cereal

* Into a blender, put a couple of scoops of mint chocolate chip ice cream

* Add a half cup of the milk of your choice

* Add one ounce Baileys Irish Cream

* Add one ounce Canadian Whisky

* Blend, damn it, blend!

* Pour into glass

The producer’s wife said the cereal made it taste nostalgic like a birthday party with drunk clowns.

If you make The Leaky Flagon or, better yet, make up one of your own, please send a picture to sneakyd@sneakydragon.com by following this link! Even if you don’t, we’d still love to hear from you. Also let us know what you think of the show and if you have any suggestions for future films.

Refresh My Memory – Moonstruck

It’s the ’80s, so let’s hear it for the boy, let’s give the boy a hand!

What? That’s the wrong movie? It’s 1987’s Moonstruck? Is the song still appropriate?

Oh, good.

Sorry, I’ve been went somewhere for a bit until that nice lady slapped me and told me to snap out of it.

Let’s join Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van as they share their memories of this three-time Oscar-winning film.

They’ll enjoy Italian sandwiches and Champagne along the way.The gang didn’t have the Egg-in-a-Hole but if you feel like making it, here’s how…

They also create a tribute drink called Cosmo’s Moon. Here’s how to make it:

* Fill a tumbler glass half full with Port

* Add an equal amount of Prosecco

* Garnish with bread

The producer’s wife said it was thick, heady and very good. The bread is actually what brings the drink together. It was a winner.

If you make a Cosmo’s Moon or, better yet, make up one of your own, please send a picture to sneakyd@sneakydragon.com by following this link! Even if you don’t, we’d still love to hear from you. Also let us know what you think of the show and if you have any suggestions for future films.

Now this is a story all about howa ship got flipped, turned upside-downAnd I’d like to take a minute, just sit right thereI’ll tell how it became The Poseidon Adventure.

Our hosts, Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell, and Vicky Van, cruised back to 1972 as we learn about their memories of this star-studded, wet and wild adventure, and if there is a morning after…

Snacks will be served, including…

Pineapple Upside-Down Cake

Here’s the recipe.

The cake was accompanied by unlimited Sparkling Water.

They also created a tribute drink called God Wants Winners. How do you make it?

* Salt the rim of a glass

* Add two oz. of Blue Curaçao

* Add equal parts Champagne and Blue Raspberry Soda

* Ideally drink it upside-down

The producer’s wife said, “Ugh. Why?”

Refresh My Memory – Saturday Night Fever

I got a fever and the only cure is…

1977’s John Travolta “classic” Saturday Night Fever, directed by John Badham. Our nighthawks, Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van, talk about both versions of the film – the PG and the R- rated. Is it a different Night than they remembered looking back on it now?

A snack is supplied by way of a double-decker New York pizza. Want to make one? Stack two slices on top of each other like Tony Manero in the opening:

And what better drink to wash that down – and maybe the taste of the movie too – than with the film’s own Seagram’s Seven and Seven.

They also create a tribute drink called Tony Manero’s Mean Streak, here’s how to make it…

* Put ice in a tumbler

* Add one oz (or two if you want the R rated version) of Sambuca

* Top with Seven Up

* Add a splash of grenadine

The producer’s wife said it was like someone put those gross Ouzo candies in a nice glass of fruit punch. It wasn’t finished.

If you make a Tony Manero’s Mean Streak or, better yet, make up one of your own, please send a picture to sneakyd@sneakydragon.com by following this link! Refresh My Memory – Night of the Hunter

Robert Mitchum is a wise cracking fun loving preacher in Charles Laughton’s 1955 rom-com The Night of the Hunter. At least that’s what I assume the movie will be. Let me just watch it and finish this write up.…

Oh Lord. Um.. strike most of that. I think I got the names and the date right. Eric Fell, Vicky Van and Jason Dedrick share their memories of this dark classic.

Snacks will be served including Hunter’s Chicken. Here’s a recipe.

And because we’re not getting through this sober – An Old Fashioned. Here’s a video on how to make this classic:

They also create a tribute drink called the Dodgy Preacher. How do you make it?

* Put a scoop of ice cream in a glass

* Add 1 1/2 oz of Peach Brandy

* And 1 oz Fireball Whiskey

* Garnish with an apple slice

It’s a drink the producer’s wife said, “Oh God no! This tastes like the camp councillor’s cabin in a slasher movie.”

If you make a Dodgy Preacher or, better yet, make up one of your own, please send a picture to sneakyd@sneakydragon.com by following this link! Even if you don’t, we’d still love to hear from you. Also let us know what you think of the show and if you have any suggestions for future films.

Please put your seat in the podcast position, we’re about to take off. If you look to your left, you’ll see our hosts, Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van travelling all the way back to 1974 for Airport ’75. Yes, the math is confusing but just go along for the ride. The deadly ride!

Snacks will be served including:Pretzels and Tomato juice with optional Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce

They also create a tribute drink called the Eric Fellbanger. How do you make it?

To one cup of hot coffee add:One oz of Galliano

It’s a drink the producer’s wife said was, “Good but burns. A vanilla coffee with a boozy bite at the end. Tastes like candy but not as smooth as you’d like.”

If you make an Eric Fellbanger or, better yet, make up one of your own, please send a picture to sneakyd@sneakydragon.com by following this link! Even if you don’t, we’d still love to hear from you. Also let us know what you think of the show and if you have any suggestions for future films.

Refresh My Memory – Star Wars Holiday Special

Do or do not, there is no trying to forget that The Star Wars Holiday Special actually happened. Our three wise hosts, Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van talk about their memories of this holiday “classic”. But it’s not the Star Wars they were looking for.

While they reminisce about this TV show from a long time ago in a galaxy with terrible judgement, they enjoy Life Cereal with blue milk.

They also create a tribute drink, the Lumpy’s Itchy. How do you make it?

* Make some white hot chocolate (we used Murchies’ version)

* Add as much Baileys Irish Cream as needed to make the pain go away.

* Top with a sphere made of frozen milk (we got a mold from Amazon)

The producer’s wife loved it. She said that the frozen milk meant that, unlike with a lot of hot chocolate, you didn’t burn your mouth on your first sip.

Refresh My Memory – War Games

Sometimes the only way to win the podcast is not to play the podcast. Not in this case however! It’s a digitally fun time with Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van talking about 1983’s War Games.

While they talk about their memories of the film, the team enjoy some Warheads sour candy and a drink made for a War Games drinking game. Jason explains the rules and the drink is…

* A vanilla shake made with milk and ice cream

* Leave the shake in the blender and add:

* One handful of Whoppers malt candy

* One ounce per person of Amaretto

* And one ounce per person of Bourbon

* Blend well!

And as always a tribute drink was created. Is it checkmate or the end of the world? The name is…

The Dabney Cold One

How do you make it?

* Take a Rainier beer

* Drink it

* Have some gum

The producers wife said, “It’s American beer and I don’t like it. Like sex in a canoe, it’s f___ing close to water.” She did like the gum.

Refresh My Memory – Top Gun

This week, do Vicky, Eric and Jason take our breath away or do the write checks their butts can’t cash? Listen in as they go back to 1986 to talk Top Gun!

The squad tries a very patriotic red, white and blue Top Gun cocktail.

Here’s how to make it.

And what 80s watch party would be complete without Pizza Bagels?

The gang then feels the need. The need to make a tribute drink called the Talk to Me Gooseberry.

How do you make it?

* If you have Gooseberry juice, fill a glass a third full. If you don’t, then cranberry juice works too.

* Add a third of a glass of Red Bull.

* For the final third, add white wine.

The producer’s wife said, “It tastes like a melted Mr. Freezie popsicle.” After much needed ice was added she said, “This is the most 80s drink ever. It’s good.”

Refresh My Memory – Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion

Hey, good to see you again. How long has it been? Let’s just put on our Jason, Vicky and Eric name tags and enter the world of 1997’s Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.

Along with talking about their memories of the film, our class acts create their own tribute beverage, The Business Women’s Drink. How do you make it?

* Fill a shot glass half full of unset Jell-O with a dash of Goldschläger – put it in the fridge

* After it sets, top it with more unset Jell-O of a different colour – set that in the fridge

The producer’s wife said, “Bleh!” and added that it tasted like the red hot candies she didn’t like as a kid. The Goldschläger made it hard for the Jell-O to set, as well, and it ended up a bit runny, making a mess. It was sopped up using 3M Post-it™ notes.

Refresh My Memory – Real Genius

What’s the rarest element? The element of surprise at finding an 80’s teen comedy that doesn’t make you go, “Uh-oh” in 2024. Welcome to the stage, 1985’s Real Genius, starring Val Kilmer. But will Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van give this college romp a passing mark?

While they talk about their memories of the film, the gang enjoy some popcorn made in a sealed pop after the producer learns that Jiffy Pop plus a gas stove equals fire.

They also have some High-C, which to be honest is the best grade these kids would get at Pacific Tech University.

Our class acts also come up with their own tribute drink: Lazlo’s Pajamas. How do you make it?

* Into an ice filled small glass, add 1 oz vodka

* Pour cold-brew coffee two-thirds to the top

* Add coconut milk to taste

The producer’s wife said it was smooth as “F”. Like one of those candy bars that aren’t like a candy bar – not a heavy coffee taste, which was nice.

This time around our polymaths are talking about the 1984 film The Adventure of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.

Does this movie transcend time and space or does it crash into a mountain?

Our Cavaliers enjoy some sake and watermelon as they tell you their mostly true recollections of the film.

The gang also come up with their own tribute drink, The Overthruster AKA Drink While You Can Monkey Boy!

How do you make it?

* To a glass with ice add…

* One oz pineapple sake

* One oz bourbon

* and a half oz banana liqueur

We weren’t able to get the ingredients together in time for a picture or taste test but look to future comments for the producer’s wife’s praise or protest. Is it a Perfect Tommy or a real Lizardo?

Refresh My Memory – The Black Hole

It’s the one year anniversary of Refresh My Memory and so we’re sending Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van on an all expense paid vacation into…

The Black Hole

Will they find this 1979 Disney offering an action packed fun-filled robo-romp or will it be Slim Pickens? Also what the hell is with that ending?

Along with the movie, the gang enjoys the Finnish drink Salmiakki. If you want to drink some salty licorice, this is your chance.

They also have some chocolate donut holes. Tim Horton’s Tim Bits to be precise.

The gang also come up with their own tribute drink: Ernest Borgnine’s Black Hole.

How do you make it?

* Take a shot glass and add…

* 1 oz Black Sambuca

* Drop one cherry into its void – never to be seen again

The producer’s wife said it was like her least favourite after dinner mint, the one that tastes like Ouzo. It got sweeter in the aftertaste but it took a while.

Refresh My Memory – Moonraker

The podcast’s name is Memory, Refresh My Memory and it’s time for some summer camp as Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van talk about 1979’s Moonraker – Roger Moore’s fourth appearance as James Bond and Richard Keil’s third appearance as Jaws (listen and you’ll find out the first). Are they shaken by the movie or are they stirred?

They enjoy a Vodka martini. Want to make one? Here’s a recipe. Want to make it Jason-style? Add even more bitters than they do in the video made by the bitters company.

They also enjoyed some Canadian half moon cakes.

Then they came up with a tribute drink called a Jaws Redemption. Want to make it?

* Half fill a shaker with ice

* Add two ounces of cucumber gin

* Add one half ounce of dry vermouth

* Shake and strain in a martini glass (or dessert glass if you’re like me and don’t have one)

* Top with French sparkling wine

* Garnish with blueberries

The producer’s wife said it was an odd mix, but kept drinking it. She then said it looks cute but then it bites you.

Refresh My Memory – Airplane!

No need to put this podcast on autopilot, Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van are here to talk about 1980’s Airplane! Do they have opinions? You bet your Zucker brothers they do!

Along with a very small amount of airline peanuts, the hosts enjoy a Don’t Call me Shirley Temple. How is it different from an actual Shirley Temple? It never went on to be the Ambassador to Ghana.

But if you want to make a Shirley Temple drink, here’s how…

The gang also create their own tribute drink called The Smoking Ticket.

To make it…

* Fill an ice-filled glass 3/4 of the way with cold brew coffee.

* Top with milk – dairy or plant based.

* Drizzle with vanilla syrup

The producer’s wife asked for more of this one, ideally in a Stanley Cup tumbler.

Enough with podcasts talking about something mild, it’s time to talk about Something Wild, the very-1986 film directed by Jonathan Demme before those lambs got so loud. (And, as a bonus, watching the movie will make a joke in Dumb And Dumber make sense.

A combination of Seagrams (or a reasonable facsimile) and Wild Cherry Life Savers is tried, and it goes over…not well.

They also come up with the tribute drink The Dine and Dash. Want to make it?

* Take a shooter glass.

* Add one half oz of Blue Curaçao

* Add one half oz of Vanilla Liqueur

* Add a hint of maraschino cherry liquid

The producer’s wife thought this tasted like vanilla Windex but liked the aftertaste which reminded her of Coca Cola gummies.

We received an email from listener Louise that we wanted to share with our listeners:

Dear Refresh My Memory. When I first saw Something Wild, I remembered admiring the screenplay for being so unpredictable. It really plays with the concepts of light and dark, truth and lies, and good and bad. This week’s podcast inspired me to make a drink that reflects the wild journey the movie takes you on. The alcohol tempts you to hide from your problems but then the caffeine serves as a wake-up call to face reality.

Let’s join Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van for a throat rippingly fun time! Two of them are seeing it for the very first time, but don’t worry, they’re nice.

Until it’s time to not be nice.

They enjoy The Ultimate Bar Mix and a drink called The Dirty Dalton. Want to make it?

(Warning, some swearing in the drink prep video)

The gang also come up with their own tribute drink, the Throat Punch. How do you make it?

* Take a glass and add…

* 1 1/2 oz of bourbon

* A splash of grenadine

* Add Hi-C to taste

The producer’s wife said it tricks you into thinking it’s something nice, but then it turns into Buckley’s cough syrup. If you decide to drink a Colt 45 afterwards to get rid of the taste, that’d be fine.

The National Film Registry says the movie is culturally, historically or aesthetically significant but who cares about them? Let’s see what Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van think.

Along with the movie, your hosts enjoy a drink called the Madonna. How do you make it? Like this!

They also enjoy some party mix to go along with the party vibe.

Then they create a tribute drink to costume designer Santo Loquasto, the Desperately Seeking Santo. Want to make it? Here’s how:

* Take 4 oz orange juice

* Add 2 oz melon liqueur

* Squeeze in some lime juice to taste

* And put a lace bow on the glass

Learning nothing from the film they recklessly open strange eggs from the planet Germany, and drink a substance resembling android blood called a Piña Colada.

Want to make a Piña Colada? Here’s how…

Learn which of the hosts got scared by a toaster and watched this film from the kitchen.

They also come up with the tribute drink The Jonesy AKA In Space No One Can Hear Egg Cream. Want to make it?

* Take half a can of frozen concentrated orange juice

* Add 1/4 cup sugar

* Add 1 1/2 cups milk

* Add 1 tsp vanilla extract

* Blend and slowly add 12 ice cubes

* While blending add one raw egg

These are safe in Canada, but please check before adding one if your country isn’t Canada. And if it’s not, pleasecome to Canada one day and enjoy this drink. (Here’s more info on eggs in Canada.)

Let’s take a long look at this 1979 film as your hosts Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van follow their Prime Directive out of prime time and onto the big screen with Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Warning: Things get a little grizzly. Picture by Eric Fell.

And if you don’t think it all feels long enough, here are some more scenes.

A Romulan Ale is enjoyed. If you’d like to make one, follow this link for the recipe.

They make up a tribute drink: the Kirk You! Want to make it?

* Put a rock in a glass

* Put ice on the rock.

* Put ginger ale on the ice and the rock.

The producer’s wife didn’t try this one because… there’s a rock in it. The hosts advise you to drink this slowly – the length of time it takes a shuttle to get to the Enterprise.
