Things are really heating up, somewhat literally! Shirley is taking on this more masculine role in her and Caroline’s relationship, the mill is threatened, and Whitsuntide and leaves us all wondering what is going to happen next.

Shirley is the OG girl boss before girl boss became a negative connotation! She is really starting to show her character and I am so excited to see where she leads Caroline

We finally meet Shirley! In this episode we start to see a lot more development of both plot and characters, and we meet our beloved Shirley for the first time.

Things are starting to get spiiiicy! Caroline is introduced and we get to see things from a bit of a different perspective than we have in the previous chapters

Welcome to our fifth season and our new book for July! Shirley is a typical novel of the time, so these first chapters are really dedicated to setting the scene and getting us familiar with the sociopolitical climate of the time and the principal characters of the text.

We’ve reached the end folx! Are you as surprised by this ending as I was? What are your feelings about it? Do you think it was fitting, or what do you think should have happened instead?

Whew boy y’all, the ultimate cliffhanger ending for this episode! We get totally bowled over, and just in time for the finale

We are starting to approach the conclusion of this text and yet it already feels like we have entirely too much to cover in such a short amount of time!! How do we feel about Stephen? What is going on with Tom? Will Maggie cave under the pressure? Too many questions!

We are really getting into the meat and potatoes of this text now and it looks like we are headed full steam ahead until the end. How will Tom’s new venture go? Will Maggie succumb to Philip’s plans?

Things are definitely starting to ramp up in these chapters and I am left with even more questions. Where do they go from here? Why is Mrs. Tulliver so obtuse? Will anyone ever give Maggie the time of day???

In this set of chapters we get hit with one curveball after another. I am blown away and on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next and if things will get any better in the coming chapters

We finally start getting into the dramatics of this text in these chapters! Maggie runs away, Mrs. Tulliver makes life harder than it has to be, and family relations become strained

These chapters are the foundation of the text. We start to see the family dynamic, get introduced to the setting and the characters, and get a feel for where the story is headed.

**CW - vague discussion of s*icide**. This set of chapters is short, which gives us more time to discuss the implications this text had when it was published!

Edna girl what are you doing! Edna mistakenly stumbles into Robert’s path and discovers he is home and has not called on her. Instead of encouraging their continued separation, well, you’ll see…

Ohhh boy if you thought things were spicy already, things get even more … interesting these chapters. Edna girl what is going on?!

These chapters get VERY messy. We see Edna making some ~questionable~ choices and get called out on them. *I’m sorry about the audio issues! I’m not sure why after a few minutes many of these clips start to have significant static, but I hope you are still able to listen to the episode!*

Wowza we are going on a roller coaster ride so strap in folx. Edna’s starting to show signs of a breakdown, and I don’t see anyone around to catch her and bring her back down to earth. The tea is hot in this one.

Wowie these chapters are little spicy! We see some big turning points in both character development and plot and I can’t wait to see where we go from here.
