Even though TNT gave us quarantine-bound viewers a gift in the form of a 2-hour finale, we're releasing the final podcasts of the season as single episodes for episodes 9 and 10. Dig into episode 9 with Paul and Cat!



Last episode may have been the revolution, but this one overflowed with suspense! There's the whole issue of whether they'd actually kill Melanie. Then, there's excitement surrounding her liberation, and finally her act of retribution in which she cedes control of the train to Andre. It's a lot for one episode AND then TNT played episode 10 right after this one! What are you trying to do TNT, kill us?

That was intense, right? The coup uptrain beautifully distracted the jackboots from the actual revolution stirring downtrain. With Melanie's firm hand and ruthless determination stuck behind bars, will Snowpiercer find itself better off?

Big, big stuff happened on the train tonight, folks. Josie, the beating heart of the tail, caretaker of the sick and ailing, Mile's Tail Mom, and Andre's main squeeze has been struck down at Melanie's hand. Well, I mean the fatally paralyzing cold did most of the heavy lifting on that, but I think it's fair to chalk up Josie's death to Melanie. I wonder where in the Wilford Industries Hospitality handbook "torture by freezing" falls?

Last week, Melanie was our savior. This week, she shows another side of that coin. Last week, she was willing to sacrifice herself for the good of the train. This week, we learn she's willing to sacrifice anybody for what she see's as the good of the train. Having Andre on the loose is a threat to the order she requires of the passengers and Josie represents her fastest way to reel Andre back in. Too bad for Josie.

After getting over the shocking ending of this episode, Paul and Cat ask:

* They weren't alone in the sub-train last week. Couldn't Melanie have told Bennett or someone to go tend to Andre while she saved the train?
* What is Javi's deal? Is he with the program or not? (The program in this case is Melanie's plan)
* Ruth is right on the edge. Will she break if she learns the truth about Mr. Wilford?

All aboard! But are you sure you really want to get on? I mean, this train can only run for about 7 years straight before it starts falling apart. Good thing the train's designer also heads up the Hospitality department. As we learned in Snowpiercer Episode 106, she's a champion multi-tasker.



For an episode featuring the series' most cinematic action sequences so far, we also received a fair amount of world-building and minor question-answering. All in all, maybe the best episode so far. Basking in that glow, Cat and Paul use this week's podcast to discuss questions like:

* Was this week's brake failure actually sabotage? And if not, then what does that mean for future episodes?
* Now that Andre is awake and mostly functional, he told Josie about the Mr. Wilford ruse. How long until that news reaches the tail? And what happens when it does?

The passengers and staff of Snowpiercer were all shocked to learn that train detective Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) had identified a suspect in the murder of Sean Wise. Although ruthless Eric the bodyguard may have performed the slicing and dicing, Andre, shortly before his unceremonious drawer-ing, believed Lila Folgers Jr. (or LJ if you're nasty), to be the brains behind the madness. In this episode, Cat and Paul discuss what justice looks like while onboard Snowpiercer, especially when you're in first-class.

Besides the case itself, we talk about:

* Train justice in general and where their somewhat abbreviated code of justice may have come from. Did someone just make it up after watching a few episodes of Law and Order?

How do you catch a killer on Snowpiercer? You hire a Train Detective, of course. What do you do when you actually find the killer? That's when you pull out your ice axe (I looked up what ice climbers use) and take him out! Train justice for all and order prevails, right? Prepare to Brace! Rough track ahead!

Not quite justice for all. Do you think if Melanie had laid out the "vacation" in the drawers between assignments, he would have cooperated? Or solved the crime so fast? Come to think of it, do you think Melanie had his one-way trip to Drawers-land in mind the whole time?

In this podcast, Cat and Paul discuss questions like these and:

* What is the precise nature of Melanie and Bennett's relationship? Are these two keeping it strictly professional or are there additional benefits to working in the Engine?
* What is LJ's diagnosis? I don't think it's "normal person". We're thinking sociopath and discuss.

Last episode we witnessed the night car's various delights for up-train passengers. In this one, we saw Fight Night, an example of the depraved side of what passes for entertainment on Snowpiercer. I can't wait to see what happens next week! Maybe a car dedicated to Cirque du Soleil, except the performers are never allowed to be out of character and always have to speak French (but no one else on the train speaks French). Plus, the performers have knives for hands. Should I have led with that?

Anyway, back to this episode. This time on Prepare to Brace!, Paul and Cat discuss:

* For Fight Night, a man fights a woman - how close are we to that today?
* The introduction of Terrance and the train's drug trade. Could Andre and Terrance end up working together at some point?
* That creepy doctor - what's... what's he doing with the people in the drawers?

This episode, "Prepare to Brace," inspired the title of our humble podcast. This episode's big event, the avalanche which blew out the cow car, has made me reconsider the wisdom of train-based arks though.



Ok, shoot me. When I heard that Mr. Wilford wanted a "significant arm" as retribution for the Tailies' failed rebellion, my mind went straight to Strong Boy. After all, the best-fed Tailie had some pretty fearsome guns in Episode 1. Also, my poor, deluded mind didn't think they'd hurt kids on this show. Even though the little girl's mom Katnissed in and sacrificed her own arm, I now have to wonder if Snowpiercer is the kind of show that WILL hurt kids. I think it is.

The way Layton spat out "Night car" in the first episode, I was expecting to see some kind of brothel on wheels. That's only partially correct. Part night club, part therapy space, part secret booty call location, the Night Car probably still holds more secrets. I bet we're back there before we know it. Miss Audrey figures into this mystery more than she's letting on.
In this podcast, we dive into issues like:

* The avalanche sounds pretty cataclysmic for the train, so will conditions get worse on the train before it gets better? Can conditions ever return to where they were?
* Layton has only been up-train for a day. Isn't it a little soon to pull a stunt like the one at the end of the episode?
* OK - stasis related sickness is a pretty standard trope. But will Nikki's case drag out too long? We're ready for her to talk!

When the passengers of Wilford Industries' Ark train, the magnificent Snowpiercer, hear, "Prepare to Brace", they know to expect a bumpy ride. Podcast fans and high-concept sci-fi fans, now hear this - if you join Cat and Paul on this podcast series, we'll do our best to smooth out those bumps for you.

Based on a graphic novel that became a cult-classic Bong Joon Ho directed film in 2013, TNT's Snowpiercer tells its own version of the story. Although the setting and premise remain the same, viewers shouldn't go into TNT's interpretation expecting to see any remnant of Bong's movie. Doing so would only prove a disappointment for hardcore fans of the movie. Instead, we'd encourage viewers to take this series as it is and dig into its characters and story. After all, Snowpiercer rolls with 1001 cars and each one has mysteries for Daveed Digg's Andre Layton to solve.
In this podcast, we dive into issues like:

* The quality and production value in the show.
* The relationships between the characters.
* The OTHER reasons Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) might have had to summon Layton from the tail.
