Pod Like a Hole
Final Episode_Pretty Hate Machine (WITH DECAY)_Reflections
The End. A review and a look back. It’s been over seven years since Marc and Steve brought on an intern  (Eric) to create a music review podcast.  Since then they covered every single NIN and Bowie song, and 42 separate albums by other artists ( plus related discographies).  The Trio has reached the end of the road, and they find themselves back at the starting line.  Pod Like Hole’s pilot experiment, the first episode, was Nine Inch Nails' “Pretty Hate Machine”, but the Hole Boys didn’t really know what they were doing yet.  Blushing amateurs, they bungled a classic record.  In the spirit of setting things right in this jacked up universe, they will finish what they started.  But this time....they’ll get it right. (what year is this?) Enjoy a track by track review of “Pretty Hate Machine” , and betwixt the analysis the guys will reflect on this project, their friendship, and the incredible listeners we’ve gotten to know over the better part of a decade. It's a loose, long goodbye. As the bionic guitars of Ringfinger echo into the stratosphere, so do your hosts. While our friendship is eternal, this project has been canceled.   This is our goodbye.  But …..to quote Joe Strummer, (co-creator of our only perfectly scored record), “ The Future is Unwritten”…. The Cure - Disintegration
This episode concludes our discussion of The Cure and this Pod Like a Hole season by analyzing the album Disintegration. Do we end the season on a sour note, or do we find ourselves whisked away to a world of wind chimes and thunderclouds rumbling in the distance?  Just like one of the themes of the record, everything must come to an end. We thank you, faithful listeners, for following us as we talked for countless hours about our favorite music, artists, and bands in what felt, at times, a neverending project. We ain’t quite dead yet though. Stay tuned. All good things…   Pod Like a Hole Links: Direct Download Facebook Instagram   Twitter  Patreon Artwork by Greg Wolgast   Video Links: “Pictures of You” “Lovesong” “Lullaby” “Fascination Street”

Pod Like A Hole - Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life - Part 2
This is the second of the two part Songs in the Key of Life episodes on the Pod Like a Hole Podcast. Picking up with Isn't she lovely, the hosts go deep into their notes and feelings about the second half of Stevie Wonder's opus Editors note: This is the last time I drew the straw on editing an episode. We only have a handful left before wrapping the show up. YEARS of staying up late and cutting the conversations together of Eric, Marc, and I always re-reminded me why I've been pals with these guys for years. It was a joy and I'll miss doing it.

Pod Like A Hole: Willie Nelson Part 2 of 2 - Red Headed Stranger Track by Track
On the 4th of July 2024, Pod Like A Hole is celebrating by uploading our discussion of Willie Nelson's The Red Headed Stranger.  This concept album is a Sunday morning favorite in one of the hosts homes, and the boys seem to all agree that it's status as an All American Classic is no fluke. Willie bet on himself (and the talents of his sister Bobbi Nelson) and hit big.  This is the 2nd and final episode in our Willie Nelson series. Remaining artists in this final season of Pod Like A Hole are Stevie Wonder and the Cure. In that order.

Pod Like A Hole: Willie Nelson Part 1 of 2 - The man, the myth, the bandana.
Willie Nelson is many things: a lover, a traveler, a Texan, a guitar player, smoker, outlaw, hero, poet, fashion icon, actor, activist, philanthropist, gunslinger, wiseacre, animal lover, brother, father, husband (four times over), Hellraiser, braids and beard enthusiast, but most of all Willie is a friend to all.  In this episode of Pod Like A Hole the hosts discuss the life and times of WIllie Nelson. His brushes with the leaf and the law, his multiple wives, his work as a public servant to the people and animals of America, his collaborations that cross genres and his work with the other Outlaw Country Heroes, and how he manages to be a man that for 91 years and counting is still making music and along the way has become a friend to almost everyone in every walk of life.  We find time to touch on 10 or so of his standout albums (couldn't get to all 100+ of his records), and in the next episode we will dedicate the recording to his masterpiece: The Red Headed Stranger.

Siouxsie and the Banshees: "Juju"
WE'VE GOT BATS IN OUR BELFRY!!!!! Grey would be the colour if we only had a way to colour-coat episodes.  It's Goth Month here on Pod Like a Hole, so get out your choker, get your eyeliner, and pick a safeword , we are covering Siouxsie and the Banshees and it is getting DARK.   It is Intern Eric's final pick of the season, and does he go out with a bang or a whimper?  You be the judge.  It's the 1980 record that brought Siouxsie to a new level of rock.  Listen as your boys pick apart the  ground breaking licks from John McGeouch, basslines from Steve Severin, and poundings from Budgie.  And vamping up front, is the true queen of the dungeon, Siouxsie Sioux.  Your hosts go into the history of the band, discuss at what point post-punk became goth, and how inspirational this band ended up being.  Then its a track by track review of Juju.   It's a whole episode of pain and pleasure.  The bitter and the sweet.  Enjoy.   Like this episode and want to buy us a cup of Joe in thanks? www.ko-fi.com/podlikeahole Direct download : https://podlikeahole.podbean.com/ Facebook (The only reason to visit that site) Pod Like a Hole: Run the Gamut Instagram (Unfortunately, no pics of the hosts wearing short shorts) instagram.com/ pod_like_a_hole_podcast/ Patreon (Until we muster up the courage for an OnlyFans site) patreon.com/join/podlikeahole Artwork by Greg Wolgast instagram.com/g.wolgast/

Pod Like A Hole: Mastodon Part 3 - Emperor of Sand Track by Track
Pod Like A Hole: Mastodon Part 3 - Emperor of Sand Track by Track The hosts riff and theorize about the journey of the Wanderer as he goes toe to toe with the Sultan on Mastodon's 2017 release: Emperor of Sand.   This is the 3rd and final Mastodon episode in this Pod Like A Hole mini season. The first episode covered their history, the second was a discography overview, and the third is EOS.   Episode starts with news and recs, Mastodon talk starts about 25 minutes in.   While the discussion of Mastodon ends here and moves to either Stevie, WIllie, Sousixe, or Robert in the final Pod Like a Hole Podcasts - they will forever be in the lifetime rock rotation.

Pod Like A Hole: Mastodon Part 2 - Discography Round Table
In what is one of my favorite talks this podcast has had, the hosts walk through the entire Mastodon discography - short of the track by track talk of Emperor of Sand and a Cold Dark Place that will be the bulk of the next episode. Starts with Call of the Mastodon, ends with Hushed and Grim.   How many different ways can three 40ish Dads say "wow this album is great, oh and this album is also great" ? You will find out in this episode. Please do not turn this episode into a drinking game where you take a shot every time a comment is made on a great riff, or that you can't believe the drummer can sing that well, or that Brent Hinds is a special dude. You will go blind.    *Editors note: Out of the four members we do not talk enough about what Bill Kelliher does to put this band over the top. That's what he gets for being the only one who doesn't hog the microphone but make no mistake, he's an all star riffer.    This is episode 2 of a 3 part Mastodon Pod Like A Hole Mini Season.

Pod Like A Hole: Mastodon Part 1 - who are they and who influenced them.
Washing upon the beach of your shipwrecked life is another episode of Pod Like a Hole. The first of 3 episodes dedicated to the mighty Mastodon of the south. Episode 1 (this episode) we cover the band's formation, the 4 members of this band, and the bulk of the discussion is the influences and peers that helped shape their sound. If you are a fan of ZZ Top, Thin Lizzy, Neurosis, Melvins, High on Fire, and even the Seattle scene of the 90s there is something here for you. Episode 2 will be a gushing discussion of their discography at a macro level, and Episode 3 will be a track by tack review of Emperor of Sand at a micro level.

Fugazi - The Argument
Well the dust is still settling from the betrayal that was our System of a Down episode, and it is positively palpable in the air.  However, this ravaged warground is the perfect location for the power of Fugazi's "The Argument".  Steve, Marc, and Eric spin this 2001 album, discuss DC Hardcore, the Dischord Records scene, the Post-Hardcore genre having a current moment,  and the history of Fugazi.  Then your hosts dive in to the track-by-track review of this genre-transcending record.  And after that experience your hosts are changed.  What were once blood stained helmets are now small beanies on their heads.  Hate in their hearts?  Now compassion.  There is only one reasonable next step here and elsewhere---ceasefire.  Table of Contents: 1.  Introductions- 0:00 2.  NEWS-6:16 3. Pod Like A Hole -System Of A Down : Toxcity
We had to do a Nu Metal episode. One hosts lived and breathed it during his teens, a real Jinco Wallet Chain nerd. Another host dabbled in the scene, sometimes to just check on his friend and make sure he wasn't too far gone. A third host was drafted into the No Limit army at the time and was too busy fighting on battles on the Sun Coasts and missed the entire movement back home. In addition to discussing Toxcity track by track you'll find discussions on Miami Vice, Fargo, Iron Maiden, The Curse, Hed PE, Slipknot, Korn, RIck Rubin, and pizza. Spoilers: this episode has one host give his lowest ranking ever. Recs, Current Events, general music chat, and SOAD history in the first hour. Track by Track starts at the 1 hour mark. The 2023 PLAH Holiday Special - Top 5 Animated Disney Movies
Join the Pod Like A Hole hosts back at the Xmas Cabin for our kind of annual Holiday Special. Marc has a love and knowledge of Disney that only is rivaled by his love of U2 and Steve knew it would be catnip to trick him into doing another holiday special. Eric keeps the fire stoked and earns his pay.  Enjoy the hosts of a certain age counting down their top 5 Animated Disney movies while you pack those last minute presents and to grandmother's house you go. We picked up the pace and knocked out 5 episodes for you in the last two months so that means we are going to take a few weeks off and be back with a one two punch of System of A Down followed by Fugazi. Happy Holidays from PLAH.

The Clash: London Calling
Your three hosts have reached the home stretch. The last handful of our favorite albums to review for our "Run the Gamut" season.  Steve, Marc and Eric have all had excellent picks, weird ones, and every now and then, one of us shows up with a card up our sleeve.  In this case, Eric is the Card Cheat, so to speak.   In this jam packed, bonus sized episode, we change our name to " Pod Em' Enough Rope " and give you the full run down of the Clash discography and its place in punk history,  touch on the solo and side work of Joe Strummer and Mick Jones, and then give you the coveted track-by-track analysis of "London Calling".   Does this record deserve it's spot on all the Top 100 lists?  Is it truly a "must have" for music fans?  Or is it a Cadillac oil stain on a supermarket parking lot?  We will decide...but you can decide too (though we know our rights as hosts to be correct).  Do you agree?  Disagree?  Who's your favorite Clash member?  Do you Stan-dinista?  Reach out and let us know.     Ok it's time to cut the crap, and enjoy this episode!      PLAH Links Like this episode and want to buy us a cup of Joe in thanks? www.ko-fi.com/podlikeahole Direct download : https://www.podbean.com/ei/pb-jxntx-13d7bd5 Facebook (The only reason to visit that site) facebook.com/podlikeahole/  Instagram (Unfortunately, no pics of the hosts wearing short shorts) instagram.com/pod_like_a_hole_podcast/    Patreon (Until we muster up the courage for an OnlyFans site) patreon.com/join/podlikeahole Artwork by Greg Wolgast instagram.com/g.wolgast/

Florence And The Machine - Ceremonials
the Pod Like a Hole Hosts celebrate Florence and the Machines’ 2011 release: Ceremonials. If you are one of our listeners who says “Pod Like a Hole, we appreciate the wide variety of artists you’ve discussed, but often I find it’s either too much obscurity, too many riffs, or too much testosterone. Can you please give me a mainstream act that isn’t a balding man?”  Well, here you go. Steve pushed on the team a track-by-track discussion of Florence Welch and her Machine’s album that can also be used as a audition tape for Barstool sports. We are reaching across the aisle here.   Eric cries twice to one of these songs.   Pod Like a Hole Links Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/.../pod-like-a-hole/id1291787697 Like this episode and want to buy us a cup of Joe in thanks? www.ko-fi.com/podlikeahole Direct download : https://www.podbean.com/ei/pb-jxntx-13d7bd5 Facebook (The only reason to visit that site) facebook.com/podlikeahole/ Instagram or Threads (Unfortunately, no pics of the hosts wearing short shorts) instagram.com/pod_like_a_hole_podcast/ Twitter aka X twitter.com/podlikeahole Patreon (Until we muster up the courage for an OnlyFans site) patreon.com/join/podlikeahole Artwork by Greg Wolgast instagram.com/g.wolgast/
