Grab your favorite commander deck, roll out that playmat and settle in with PlanesTalkers!
Each week, we break down our favorite -- and most hated -- legendary creatures from Magic: The Gathering to discuss their lore, gameplay, and our favorite ways to build commander decks with them.
PlanesTalkers is produced by Hilarity Save, an independent group of writers, artists, and nerds who like to geek out about all things tabletop.
Hosted by Anna Williams & Nick Tavanese

The brand-new Universes Beyond set is fast approaching, and in anticipation for MTG x Final Fantasy, we sat down to talk about the recently revealed deck lists for each of the pre-cons releasing alongside the set!
Featuring icons from Final Fantasy 6, 7, 10 and 14, these decks pack a major punch right out of the box and are almost guaranteed to spice up your at-home commander nights.
Next week, we'll be talking about May Secret Lair "The Ultimate Pencil" Superdrop and the upcoming Final Fantasy Secret Lair drop that will be hitting the shop just in time for the official set launch on June 13.

This week, we're sitting down with our friend Kurohitsuki to talk all things Tarkir: Dragonstorm, from the stories, major character moments, and our thoughts on the overall card quality from Magic's latest set.
...We also might get on a bit of a rant about Thunder Junction, but hey, who wouldn't want to see Nicol Bolas and Ugin in cowboy hats?

This week, we sit down and talk about the good, bad, and the disappointing from the March Secret Lair Superdrop "Our Boss Is On Vacation", and how we yearn for the days of print-on-demand to return to us. We also talk a bit about the future of Magic: The Gathering and our thoughts on the suffocating amount of Universes Beyond content releasing in 2025.
Next week, join us for a complete review and lore recap of Tarkir: Dragonstorm featuring Kurohitsuki!

This week, we finally come back from an extended hiatus to talk about commanders that we love (and maybe love to hate) that helped us rethink how we approach casual tables and putting a deck together.
Nick discusses his first experience playing a commander with green in their color identity with Omnath, Locus of Creation as well as graveyard control with Meren of Clan Nel Toth while Anna dives into her tricky extra turn-chaining schemes with Yennett, Cryptic Sovereign and her enemies-to-lovers perspective on mill decks thanks to the infamous Captain N'ghathrod.

We finally talk about our favorite commander decks and break down what we love about them, their mechanics, and the little bits of personal flair we threw into each to make it our own. We also get to give a rundown of our experience attending MagicCon Chicago 2025 and Magic's official return to Tarkir coming in April thanks to Dragonstorm!
This week's featured Commanders are Jodah, Archmage Eternal -- a splashy WUBRG commander that looks to cheat out huge spells to swing out in combat and Astarion, The Decadent -- a unique life gain commander who secretly works as a gnarly Orzhov combo piece.

Instead of talking about our favorite commander decks, we instead decided to sit down and discuss how we feel about the new bracket system and Game Changer list implemented by Wizards of the Coast to help EDH player's define their decks, and stir the pot over some of the card choices on the aforementioned "Game Changer" list.
We also dive into some of the more social implications of the new system, and offer some insight on what players should consider when approaching pregame discussions with the new system being developed.

In our first ever installment of PlanesTalkers, we decided to talk about our first-ever experiences with Magic: The Gathering and Commander as a format.
Reflecting on our first ever decks with the Matriarch of Orzhov Teysa Karlov and her countless death triggers as well as Queen Marchesa's pillow forting monarch mechanic shenanigans, we break down why these decks have such a special place in our hearts.
