I Used to Ignore My Dreams (Here's What Changed)

In this episode, Jake asks Bill about his personal journey—how he went from ignoring his dreams entirely to dedicating his life to understanding them.Bill shares his story from 20 years of feeling lost to discovering the transformative power of working with his own dreams. Starting from a place where he'd never paid attention to his dreams, one intense dream experience cracked something open—leading him to leave behind a successful plumbing business and dedicate himself to understanding how dreams guide us back to ourselves. In this conversation, Bill and Jake talk about:How a single dream can shift everythingFinding meaning when you feel lostRecurring dreams and what they're showing youFear in your dreams (and what it's protecting)Isolation and why you don't have to figure this out aloneWhy your dreams matter more than expert interpretationThe difference between "fixing" and "listening"What it really means to trust yourselfThis is about the real-world impact of paying attention to what your inner world is showing you—and how that changes your outer world.

Stop Trying to Save People (What My Dreams Taught Me About Boundaries)

We both thought helping meant saving people. Bill became a therapist and activist. Darren became an emergency room doctor, trained in every resuscitation course available. We were drawn to professions where we could "save" others—all while our dreams were showing us something completely different: we couldn't save anyone, and that realization would change everything about how we show up in our relationships, our work, and our lives. In this conversation, we explore:How "saving" others often means we're avoiding ourselvesWhy your dreams reveal the boundaries you're not setting in waking lifeThe difference between being present for someone and trying to fix themHow learning to feel (not just think) changes everythingWhat it means to have an "inner world" and why it mattersThis isn't about dream interpretation or symbol dictionaries. Doctor and Dream Worker Discuss: When Dreams Meet Medicine

What happens when a family doctor who's practiced medicine for 30 years starts asking patients about their dreams? My friend Dr. Darren Jakubec joins me for a conversation about the intersection of dreams, trauma, and healing. Darren practices family medicine and anesthetics in northern Canada, and over the years he's found ways to weave dream work into his medical practice - sometimes in the emergency room, sometimes in his pain clinic. We explore how dreams can reveal what traditional medicine sometimes misses, why so many physical symptoms have roots in unprocessed trauma, and what it's like to practice medicine when you understand that healing involves more than just treating symptoms. In this conversation we discuss:- How Darren uses dreams with patients in medical settings- The connection between dissociation, trauma, and physical health- Why most people struggle to acknowledge emotional hardship- What happens when you approach dreams as guidance rather than puzzles to solve- The challenge of staying grounded in Western medicine while recognizing its limitationsThis isn't about rejecting medical care - it's about understanding that true healing often requires addressing the whole person, not just their physical symptoms.Want to work with your own dreams? We are developing online classes and coaching programs launching Fall 2025. If you're interested in learning to trust your own relationship with dreams (rather than relying on dream dictionaries), subscribe and stay tuned.More interviews with Dr. Darren Jakubec: Anesthesia, Chronic Pain, and Dreamwork: "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixMGWj8ySI8"From Emergency Room to Psychedelics: "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I74RBcECi1YIntroducing Ketamine Infusion Therapy for Refractory Depression: "https://overcast.fm/+AA1BFDM6zKA"Connect with me: "peopleofthedream.com"If this conversation resonates with you, please like, subscribe, and share with anyone who might benefit from a different approach to understanding themselves and their healing journey.

The Dream Expert You've Been Looking For Is You

The Dream Expert You've Been Looking For Is You

As someone who's worked with thousands of dreams and hundreds of dreamers, my main advice as an expert is simple: don't trust the experts. The real meaning of your dream comes from your own personal associations with what's happening in your dream.

In this episode, I share the three-step associative process that transforms how you work with your dreams:

🔍 Step 1: Notice the dismissal - Even dream experts sometimes want to dismiss their dreams. The first step is recognizing when you're doing this.

💭 Step 2: Find your personal association - What memories, feelings, or experiences come up when you sit with a specific dream moment? This is where the magic happens.

🌱 Step 3: Connect it to your bigger journey - How does this association relate to your life's journey from dissociation back to wholeness?

I walk you through a personal example from my own dream about a washing machine that seemed "ridiculous" - until I remembered my dad learning to do laundry when my mom could no longer do it due to Parkinson's. That association completely transformed the dream's meaning and showed me something profound about my own process of starting over.

Key Points:

  • You don't need dream dictionaries or external experts
  • Your personal associations are the gateway to meaning
  • Dreams speak your language, not universal symbols
  • The associative process reveals your bigger life story

Topics covered: Dream work, personal associations, reassociative dreamwork, trusting your inner knowing, starting over, being a beginner, asking for help

Whether you're new to dreamwork or have been working with dreams for years, this approach will help you trust your own relationship with your dreams and discover the guidance that's specifically meant for you.

Sending love and prayers to all those in war zones and places of chaos around the world. Thank you for being here, wherever you are.

It's Not Just About the Dream - It is About You...

I don't really care about dreams for the sake of talking about dreams. I do this work for one reason only: I want to find the meaning of life. I want to get why I'm here, what I'm doing, how to do what I'm doing.Dreams aren't puzzles to solve—they're here to guide you home to yourself. In this video, I share how I've come to understand that what we call "dreamwork" is really a reassociative process: taking the parts of ourselves that have gotten scattered and driven underground, and learning to come back into relationship with them. What you'll discover:Why dreams seem "weird" (and why that's actually pointing to something important)How we lose parts of ourselves on the way to adulthood—and how to get them backThe difference between treating symptoms vs. addressing the core issueWhy your dreams are like personalized guidance for your journey back to wholenessHow reassociation differs from traditional approaches to personal growthThis isn't about becoming someone different. It's about remembering and reclaiming who you've always been underneath the cultural programming. The parts of yourself that you've lost touch with? They're not gone. They're alive and wanting to come back into relationship with you. And your dreams know exactly where they are.#dreamwork #personalgrowth #spirituality #healing #consciousness #authenticity #dreams

But what if that’s not what they’re asking for?

In this video, I share a dream practice that’s not about decoding—but about staying. About learning to relate, listen, and let something deeper unfold.

I also offer a simple morning process you can use—whether you remember a whole dream or just a feeling.

🌌 Dreams Can Actually Help You to "Wake Up"!

In this video, I reflect on The Matrix as one of the most powerful metaphors for dream work — and how our dreams reveal the dual reality we all live in. We talk about the traps of chasing love and security in a survival-based world, and how our dreams can guide us toward a deeper, truer kind of love — one that comes from within.💭 I share a personal dream (and some resistance to it!) that reminded me how healing it is to embrace the real love we’ve experienced — even when it’s messy, imperfect, or from the past.🌀 Topics we explore:Why The Matrix is one of my favorite “dream movies”The subtle (and not so subtle) ways culture distorts our view of love and securityHow dreams show us the truth about ourselvesA gentle assignment to help you anchor into your own inner world✨ Dream Reflection PromptChoose a recent dream and ask:Is this showing me a way I’m stepping out of the Matrix?Or: Is it revealing an old belief that still holds me back from love?📥 Want help with a dream?Check out my new Submit a Dream offerings — including a free intro option, a longer written response, or a recorded video.👉 [https://peopleofthedream.com/submit-a-dream/]🧭 If this resonates, please Like, Share & Subscribe. Thanks for being here. The Power of Dreams in Reclaiming Your Story

Dreams are not just random stories; they are mirrors that reflect the stories we’ve been told about who we are and the stories we’re afraid to challenge. In this video, I dive into how dreams can help us confront the energies that try to silence us—whether it’s societal norms, cultural expectations, or our own inner doubts. I also discuss the courage it takes to reclaim our identity, especially in a world that often attacks those who dare to be different, like the trans community.I share how dreams have helped me reconnect with my voice and my purpose, especially during times when I’ve felt lost or unsure. From the fear of being judged for speaking about God or consciousness to the backlash we face when we step out of the roles assigned to us at birth, dreams remind us that we are so much more than the stories we’ve been told. They show us a bigger, wilder, and more beautiful version of ourselves—one that our culture often tries to suppress.I also talk about the importance of spiritual support, both from our dreams and from the people (and spirits) who have our backs. Whether it’s my late brother, my parents, or the countless dreamers I’ve worked with over the years, I’ve learned that we can’t fight these battles alone. We need each other, and we need the courage to keep going, even when it feels like the world is against us.This video is a call to action—to embrace the fight, to keep your "elbows up," and to find the strength to challenge the stories that no longer serve you. Whether you’re struggling with self-doubt, facing societal pressures, or just trying to make sense of a weird dream, this video is for you. Let’s explore the power of dreams together and find the courage to live authentically. If you have a dream you’d like me to explore in a future video or a question about dreams, leave a comment or send me an email. And if this video resonates with you, please share it with someone who might need to hear this message. Let’s keep the conversation going and support each other on this journey.Elbows up, sweet dreams, and I’ll see you next time.

Why Being with Your Dreams with Presence Changes Everything

A few people responded to the past videos and asked, “What does it mean that love and consciousness are in the dream?” They might feel this in their dream sessions, but not always when looking at their own dreams. Today, I explore how dreams open up consciousness and love when we meet them with a certain kind of presence, not from an alienated or dissociated place, but by being in conversation with them.

Our culture teaches us to consume love, but dreams don’t work that way. “We have to bring some consciousness, bring some love to the relationship,” approaching our dreams with openness is what changes everything. Even with nightmares and trauma dreams, there is often “a cry for help…a way to be with that pain or fear with tenderness.” .

The process begins with “Taking a breath and saying, ‘Okay, let’s talk.’ Asking with openness: What is being shown to me here from a place of love?” Stay with that question. Even if nothing comes up, “be with the not knowing.” This practice of presence will transform how you relate to yourself and your dreams.

This video is part of a series on how to work with your dreams, starting with the mindset shift I introduced in the last two videos. If you need help, feel free to share a dream or a moment from your dream, and I’ll offer prompts in a future video.

G-d and Dreams - Some Further Thoughts

It is not really about whether we use the word G-d or not. Dreams can be a way to recieve guidance from consciousness that exists beyond our immediate self. Whether you call that G-d or some other word is not the point. The point is that there is a way to find our way through the personal, social and spiritual challenges we all face these days. A way to not be so alone with the inner and outer world issues that we are up against. If you are curious, you can actually learn to start your day listening to the gift we have been given in the night...
