When we started interviews for this podcast, one thing kept coming up: Niv Fichman saved the show. Niv saved the show with an elevator pitch given in an actual elevator. We had to talk to the man ourselves, and it’s a good thing we did; this was the first time he had talked at such length and detail about his experiences with the show, and as a producer extraordinaire.

Martha Burns joined us for an interview after a long day in the rehearsal room to talk about Canadian theatre, difficult women, and more. Much like Ellen Fanshawe, Martha is an acclaimed leading lady with indomitable stage presence and… well, maybe that’s where the similarities end.

It’s a team effort when we talk to both Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison who were instrumental to the music in Slings and Arrows, including the clever, catchy, and beloved theme songs to each season. Musical theatre construction, what makes a good audition song, and some stories of departed and deeply-missed cast members are just part of lively conversation.

We’ll be very honest: one of the biggest motivating factors for starting this podcast was that it would give us a chance to talk to Susan Coyne. As the ever-capable, forever-put-upon Anna Conroy, she was the heart, soul, and backbone of the New Burbage Festival, and as one of the three show creators, we couldn’t wait to ask her about her inspirations, favourite moments, and memories.

We kick off with Bob Martin, one of the writers, who also makes a memorable appearance as an actor in the show to deliver one of Shakespeare's most famous speeches. We talk about writing, mentorship, and how the making of Slings and Arrows dovetailed with one of his other works, the Tony Award-winning The Drowsy Chaperone.
