Out Takes
‘Bottoms’ and ‘Dicks: The Musical’ with special guests Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp
For this Out Takes, we turned our spotlight on two new funny and very quirky films that highlight a new wave of LGBTIQ+ millennial and Gen Z cinema that is not afraid to laugh at itself but also puts their stories front and centre in an unashamedly queer way.
We had a ball watching and reviewing ‘Dicks: The Musical’ which follows two self-obsessed businessmen who discover they’re long-lost identical twins and come together to plot the reunion of their eccentric divorced parents. Along with the hilarious musical numbers courtesy of the amazing cast including Nathan Lane, Megan Mullaly and Megan Thee Stallion, there’s also puppets, incest and more! It’s as unhinged and crazy as it sounds and a very fun watch plus we were joined by the films co-writers and lead actors Aaron Jackson & Josh Sharp to get the scoop on all of the behind the scenes tales.
We also reviewed ‘Bottoms’, a satirical teen comedy with very adult themes that follows two unpopular lesbian best friend’s who start a high school fight club to meet girls and lose their virginity. They soon find themselves in over their heads when the most popular students start beating each other up in the name of self-defense. It’s hilarious and outrageous with a dynamic young cast and one of the best uses of ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ that we’ve seen in a feature film EVER!
