Salm Kolis Wise and Woke Part 1

We appreciate you listening to One Song Playlist, and for Season one we are featuring O-o-h Child by a Chicago family musical group the Five Stairsteps, which was released in April of 1970…. And in that year our guest Salm Kolis was a young college student on the Carbondale campus of Southern Illinois University. She was also in the midst of what she refers to as her personal radicalization along with many other college students at the time

We caught up with Salm in November of 2020 right after the national election, which lent opportunity for her to share about her decades long connection to the Socialist Workers Party. This extraordinarily interesting interview covers other topics including art, medicine, and education as well as the pandemic. I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one.

One Song Playlist
One Song Playlist (30-Minute) Master Sample

FROM THE HOST & EXECUTIVE PRODUCER DR. TONY DUNBAR

I got the idea this summer.  I decided to make a new playlist for my afternoon walk/runs.  I was in the mood to listen to a song, actually my favorite song, ooh child, by Chicago's own The FiveStairsteps (Burke Family). So after saving the original (1970), I saw all these remakes from Hall & Oates to BeBe & CeCe Winans.  So I saved those and looked for more until I actually had enough for a decent playlist; thus, the notion One Song Playlist.  It is an interview show using the context and power of a single song to not only discuss the song but also broaden the interview out into more dynamic points of conversation depending on who’s the guest.  The full arc of the interview gives ample opportunity to discuss the background of the guest and the projects, organizations, and issues, to which they’re connected.

This 30-minute extended preview is a great to get introduced to the podcast.  The program launches Monday March 22, 2021. Visit our website: onesongplaylist.com.  You can support the One Song Playlist by joining our Patreon Community at: https://www.patreon.com/onesongplaylist
