For the first time on No Darkness But Ours, Gemma Files and Simon Bestwick set out to discuss an entire horror franchise - Don Coscarelli's Phantasm films.
From the first movie in 1979, all the way through to the final instalment, Ravager, in 2016, we talk deadly flying silver spheres, 1971 Barracudas, insane four-barrelled sawn-off shotguns and the performances of A. Michael Baldwin, the late great Angus Scrimm as the terrifying Tall Man, and the one and only Reggie Bannister as the lovable Everyman hero pitted against the embodiment of Death Itself.
Phantasm, Phantasm II, Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead, Phantasm: OblIVion and RaVager are all hugely entertaining films in their own right, but also rich in musings on mortality. Come step through the dimension fork and join us!
This episode of the podcast is for Reggie Bannister, with love and admiration.

Ally Wilkes’ debut, the Antarctic tale of terror All The White Spaces, formed the focal point of our very first podcast, so we’re delighted to have her on the podcast to discuss her second novel, Where The Dead Wait, in which she returns to the frozen wastes, this time those of the Arctic. So wrap up warm and join Gemma and Simon as they talk sub-zero temperatures, queer subversion and cannibalism with Ally Wilkes.
