This podcast is hosted by myself, Dr. Matt Zakreski, a clinical psychologist and speaker, alongside our co-host and producer Jake Noonan, an educational coach and humanities teacher. We are here to leverage our personal and professional experiences as neurodivergent specialists to inform and entertain the world around us. And, since we can’t do that on our own, we’ve collected an incredible group of professionals from all walks of life who use their time and talent to support the neurodivergent community. When we know more, we do better, and the goal of the #NooN podcast is to provide our listeners with as much information as possible to make your lives better. Because, as Dr. Matt always says, we can’t always make your lives EASY, but we can make them EASIER – and that is just as important! If you’re neurodivergent, someone who loves a neurodivergent person, or works with neurodivergent people, then Nerding out on Neurodiversity is the show for you. Come on this journey with us! We’ll laugh, cry, learn, and make obscure nerdy pop culture references, we’ll have fun – we promise!

Ep 32 -- Jake and Matt must be BUG'N, with Sheldon Gay!
This episode, we have the great pleasure of speaking with Sheldon Gay, an all around multidimensional powerhouse! The founder of "Sheldon Gay is BUG'N", he aims to help any and all neurodiverse individuals identify with that label and learn how to embrace it. Whether through speaking engagements, individualized coaching, or through his podcast ("I Must Be BUG'N"), Sheldon emphasizes the need to make sense of a world where 'normal' isn't really that 'normal' . It's incredible knowing that Sheldon is not only a part of the world of neurodiversity, but also an outspoken advocate and positive representative. 🥳🥳 As a late-identified gifted, and therefore neurodivergent, Black man, Sheldon sees the world in ways that can be very different from what society has told us is reasonable. In essence, he knows what it’s like to feel misunderstood and isolated -- and he understands the importance of being seen and valued within society. We loved being able to explore Sheldon's experience growing up, especially as a melanated person, and what led him to his passions and unique perspectives on the world around him. Thank you for your time, expertise, and joy, Sheldon! Also, what a great throwback to Doug! 🥳🎉 (Also, Sheldon's use of BUG'N itself? Phenomenal! It stands for -- Black Underrepresented/Unidentified Gifted and otherwise Neurodivergent.) -- Why not start a school? -- Sheldon Gay can be found through his website or through Instagram. Ep 30 -- Get in Loser, We’re Reprocessing Trauma, with Sydney Pruett
Today, we have the privilege of speaking with Sydney Pruett, an author and a specialist in EMDR and trauma therapy! She is a much needed voice and advocate in the realm of trauma therapy, especially with the broader experiences that students have nowadays. It's wonderful to know that Sydney approaches her work through a compassionate, empathetic approach first -- which makes her phenomenal with supporting any and all marginalized groups. What deeply important work Sydney is doing -- especially through EMDR and her specialization with it. We appreciate hearing her expertise on it and the nuance surrounding EMDR in general! We loved reflecting with her on high school experiences via Mean Girls, especially the seemingly universal experiences for neurodiverse learners. It was such a joy hearing your story, Sydney! 🥳🎉 (Be sure to check our Instagram for that Sally costume -- and we promise to get back together to talk all about Wicked!) -- Celebrate. Delegate. Reciprocate. Always. -- Sydney Pruett can be found on Instagram and on Linktree! Ep 29 -- Neurodivergent Nibbles and other Snack Hacks, with Jackie Silver!
Today, we have the great joy of sharing great wisdom and perspective from Jackie Silver! A registered dietitian nutritionist, Jackie approaches nutrition counseling through the specific lens of neuro-affirmative care first. If you are someone, or know someone, or know someone who knows someone, struggling with eating and/or nutrition in general, Jackie is the best person to know! We loved hearing her accessible advice that can genuinely change how someone can experience food, especially as something other than 'just eating the thing'. We also talk about consistency as a critical avenue for shifting perspectives and understanding around food and mealtimes. (How amazing, right?) Jackie began Accessible Wellness, a team of dietitians specializing in supporting neurodivergent kids. In her work there, Jackie approaches all neurodiversities as unique to the individual -- notably by recognizing and understanding their specific needs. Her skills and compassion help her work with all types of kids who are autistic, have ADHD, ARFID, and many other specific needs. Ep 26 -- How to Soar, with 'Captain' Devin Kennedy
This episode is a special one for us! What makes today's episode especially special is our guest, Devin Kennedy. A licensed pilot, Devin -- literally -- soars. He guides us through his academic journey, highlighting what drew him to flight, how he connects with joy, and past struggles being understood in schools. Our conversation leans into complexities of change and how hard that can be. In the end, change is something that Devin embraces, even when it's difficult. For her, she blends neuroscience with coaching to reconnect with one's 'genius' -- whatever that may be. In the end, this leads to resilience and a return to the foundational connections between the brain, the body, and the alphabet. Nerding out on Neurodiversity
