Ep. 4 Glenn Gould for a While

Barb Hobart & Brian Finley discuss and explore through music the life and work of Glenn Gould.

I remember being fascinated by his persona. To me, he looked like Schroeder in peanuts hunched over the piano. Of course, you know he always used to sing along which can be very disconcerting but there was just something about him that was mesmerizing. - Barb Hobart

Ep. 3 - Mozart for a While

Join Brian Finley & Barb Hobart in a joy-filled conversation about the intriguing details of Wolfgang Mozart's life. Mozart's family, possible enemies, unrequited loves and of course the brilliance of his music.

"For nearly two centuries the story has been told and retold - Mozart, the divine mystery, the incomparable freak of nature imbodied in an impish and vulgar child who wrote masterpieces before he was ten but was perpetually misunderstood. He was hounded by neglect to a pauper's grave. It is one of the most tragic series in the history of music, but almost none of it is true." - Jan Swafford

Ep. 2 - Shostakovich for a While

"In his lifetime he was forced to play a surreal game with mortal stakes. He survived three cataclysmic events: the Russian revolution, world war two and Stalin's purges. His sadly uneven output gains much of its power from our understanding of what he lived through and tried to embody in his work and to fully understand his work, we must read between the lines, and behind the notes to find the real voice." - Jan Swafford
