Stephen Apkon is an award-winning filmmaker, and social entrepreneur. He is the Founder and former Executive Director of the Jacob Burns Film Center, a non-profit film and education center located in Pleasantville, NY. Stephen is the Director and Producer of Disturbing the Peace. He is also an Executive Producer of Fantastic Fungi, Planetary, Backyard Wilderness and a Producer of I'm Carolyn Parker, Enlistment Days, and Presenting Princess Shaw. He has also directed Stories of Transformation, which is a series of short films documenting the healing potential of psychedelic medicines. He is the author of The Age of the Image: Redefining Literacy in a World of Screens, published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux – foreword by Martin Scorsese. Stephen lives in the Hudson Valley with his partner Marcina, their dog Osa, and the flora, fauna and fungi they share this corner of the planet with. Marcina Hale LMFT grew up in Ashtabula Ohio, an adventurous tomboy who loved to climb trees, bike, swim, play sports and ponder life. She studied psychology at Ohio University, Media at Long Island University and Systems Therapy (Marriage and Family) at Fairfield University.  She is enamored with the mystery of life and loves to play with what is possible. Marcina Hale LMFT is a therapist and filmmaker who is trained in many modalities from different traditions and appreciates the collective wisdom of cultures.  She is a License Marriage and Family therapist certified by CIIS, in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies & Research and MAPS in Facilitation and Education.  She is a facilitator of  workshops internationally and across the US and has had the honor of co-creating with many amazing people especially the team at Reconsider. She is an Executive Producer of Fantastic Fungi, Producer of Disturbing the Peace and is a facilitator for Reconsider workshop experiences, which have been given in the U.S. and internationally. Today on Move The Needle, Rob talks with Todd Williams, a man who made a lot of money on Wall Street, but also acted on his passion for public education.  Highly committed to public education, Todd is the founding Chairman and CEO of The Commit Partnership, the nation's largest educational collective impact organization with over 200 institutions (including 15 school districts and eight higher-ed institutions educating over 790,000 students) supported by a dedicated backbone staff of ~60 employees. Together the Partnership and its backbone staff are collectively focused on improving post-secondary completion and economic mobility levels across the Dallas County region as well as the state of Texas. Todd also served for eight years as the Education Policy Advisor to former Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings. Todd is a senior trustee and former board chair for Austin College, a liberal arts college in Sherman, Texas. With his wife Abby, Todd was the founding chair for six years of the regional advisory board for Teach for America in Dallas/Ft. Worth, and together in 2007 they also helped establish the Uplift Williams Preparatory School, a K-12 free tuition public charter school operated by Uplift Education that educates over 1,500 primarily Hispanic children living in limited income homes in northwest Dallas. Todd was appointed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in 2020 to serve on (i) the Texas Permanent School Fund Corporation (responsible for overseeing the investment of the state's ~$50 billion endowment fund supporting Texas' K-12 public education system); (ii) the year-long 2018 Texas Commission on Public School Finance (where he chaired its Outcomes Committee which ultimately produced 35 recommendations that served as the basis for Texas' landmark HB3 legislation which equitably invested $11.5 billion in the state's public K-12 education system in 2019) and (iii) the 2021 Texas Commission on Community College Funding, which recommended the strategic investment of ~$650 million of new biennial state funding to reward targeted outcomes and increase accessibility for the state's economically and academically disadvantaged students. Todd is the former Chair of the Citizen Budget Review Commission for Dallas ISD ($1.7 billion budget educating ~155,000 students) and the former Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees for Uplift Education, a public charter school management organization serving over 20,000 students across the D/FW area. He is also the former chairman of both the Real Estate Finance and Investment Center (located at the University of Texas) and the Real Estate Council of Dallas, the city's largest real estate organization. Prior to dedicating his efforts full time as a volunteer to public education, Todd served as a partner and global co-head of Goldman Sachs' real estate private equity investment area, retiring in 2010 following a 20-year career with the firm in their New York, Los Angeles and Dallas offices. Total assets under management purchased by GS-managed real estate funds exceeded $100 billion in cost, including $10 billion of equity invested by Goldman Sachs and its managing partners. Today on Move The Needle, Rob talks to Doug Parker, a longtime airline leader, about that and how the industry changed after that.  Doug Parker retired as CEO of American Airlines in March 2022 after more than 35 years in the airline industry, including 20 years as CEO. He was named CEO of American following the merger of American and US Airways in 2013. Doug continues to serve as chairman of American's board of directors. Doug remains a strong supporter of the people of the airline industry and American is emblematic of the transformation that has occurred in the industry in recent years. The integration of American and US Airways was a success and the airline made unprecedented investments in its team members and product while returning money to shareholders. Doug's leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic helped stabilize the industry during an unprecedented decline in demand for air travel. Previously, Doug was Chairman and CEO of US Airways. Under his leadership, the airline achieved record revenue growth, operational performance and profit margins that outpaced most industry peers. Doug served as Chairman, President and CEO of America West Airlines prior to the merger of US Airways and America West in 2005. He became CEO of America West 10 days before Sept. 11, 2001 and led the carrier through the crisis. Doug's experience prior to joining America West in 1995 includes four years with Northwest Airlines as Vice President, Assistant Treasurer and Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis. From 1986 to 1991, he held several financial management positions with American. Doug received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Wings Club Foundation and the Legend in Leadership Award from the Yale Chief Executive Leadership Institute, in recognition of his extraordinary career. He is a member of the Vanderbilt University Board of Trust, the SMU Cox School of Business Executive Board, the Medal of Honor Museum Foundation Board of Directors and the International Air Transport Association Board of Governors. Doug earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Albion College in 1984 and an MBA from Vanderbilt University in 1986. Kathleen Sebelius is one of America's foremost experts on national and global health issues, human services, and executive leadership. As CEO of Sebelius Resources LLC, she provides strategic advice to companies, investors, and non-profit organizations. Sebelius chairs the board of Humacyte and serves on the boards of directors of Devoted Health, Exact Sciences, Included Health, and the Kaiser Family Foundation. She co-chairs the Aspen Institute Health Strategy Group and serves on advisory boards for the Dole Institute of Politics, Solera Health, Out Leadership, the Estée Lauder Foundation, Protect Our Care, the University of Kansas College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Zipline. Sebelius is honorary co-chair and an advisor to the National Cannabis Roundtable. From April 2009 through June 2014, Sebelius served in President Barack Obama's Cabinet as the 21st Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, where she worked to pass and implement the Affordable Care Act. Bill anchored the prime time news broadcasts on CBS-owned WWBM-TV Chicago and co-anchored the CBS Morning News from 1982-1986. He also served as a CBS network correspondent. Currently, he can be heard on NPR Radio as the co-host of the celebrated weekly news quiz, Wait, Wait…Don't Tell Me. And as the host of the daily news magazine, Through the Decades, taking a look back at each day through the lens of history. He also provided the satirical narration for the feature film comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. He has authored Bill Kurtis: On Assignment, a review of major news stories he covered accompanied by his own photographs. Jessica Berman is the Commissioner of the National Women's Soccer League where she oversees all operations of the league with a focus on supporting players on and off the pitch, working with NWSL clubs to continue building on the positive momentum of the league's growing audience and collaborating with NWSL partners to create the most engaging and entertaining fan experience. Berman has received a number of distinctions throughout her career in the sports industry. Most recently, she was named Sports Business Journal's 2022 Best Hire following her first season at the helm of the NWSL. Berman completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, graduating with a degree in Sports Management and Communications. Today on the Move The Needle, Rob talks with former Florida governor and presidential candidate Jeb Bush about his family, business and what he learned in politics. Governor Bush was the 43rd governor of the state of Florida, serving from 1999 through 2007. During his two terms, Governor Bush remained true to his conservative principles, cutting taxes, vetoing earmarks, and championing major reform of government programs. Under his leadership, Florida was on the forefront of consumer healthcare advances, led the nation in job growth, and launched and accelerated restoration of America's Everglades. In education, Florida raised academic standards, required accountability in public schools and created the most ambitious school choice programs in the nation. As a result, Florida students have made the greatest gains in academic achievement and Florida is one of a handful of states to significantly narrow the achievement gap. Prior to and after his tenure as Florida's chief executive, Governor Bush has been actively involved in the private sector, helping to build the largest full service real estate company in South Florida and owning and operating successful consulting and investing businesses. Governor Bush is also the Chairman and Founding Partner of Finback Investment Partners which is a private equity firm that takes active minority interest in middle market and growth-stage companies. Governor Bush maintains his passion for improving the quality of education for students by serving as the chairman of the Foundation for Excellence in Education, a national non-profit organization he founded to work with education leaders, teachers, parents, and advocates to develop and implement reforms that lead to rising student achievement. Governor Bush has written three books, Profiles in Character; Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution; and Reply All: A Governor's Story 1999-2007. Governor Bush lives in Miami with his wife Columba. They have three children and five grandchildren.

Together, they know a lot about leadership, academics, and family. Kathi joined the first co-ed class at the United States Military Academy at West Point, where she became the second highest-ranking cadet in the Corps and graduated with a degree in Engineering. As an Army Corps of Engineer Officer, she served in various positions, commanded an Engineer Company, and rose to the rank of Colonel. She holds a Master's Degree in Applied Mathematics and a Doctoral Degree in Curriculum & Teaching, both from Boston University. Kathi's personal and professional passions are focused on education and service. Scott Snook is a Senior Lecturer at the Harvard Business School. He graduated with honors from West Point, earning the Royal Society of Arts Award for the most outstanding overall cadet in his class. Following graduation, he was commissioned in the US Army Corps of Engineers, where he served in various command and staff positions for over 22 years, earning the rank of Colonel before retiring in 2002. He has an MBA from the Harvard Business School, where he graduated with High Distinction as a Baker Scholar.
