Banned at various times for being too left-wing and too right-wing, it critiqued and shaped much of the political discourse of the 20th century, and has found a fresh, unsettling meaning in the new reality of hyper-surveillance and big data algorithms.

Delia talks to Kimya Glasgow, the creator of high quality products, primarily resort wear, swimwear, soft furnishings and accessories, with a desire to have a positive impact on society. She is an active entrepreneur assisting communities in Saint Vincent, especially with start-up ventures and associations. She tells how, from an early childhood, “So you got your freedom papers,” affected how she led her life.

Nicole is also the founder of MBF Enterprises Ltd (Making Business FUN-ctional), which focuses on ideation and innovative business model development through a 90 day experimental mentorship model. She also established the Two Cups of Care Women’s Program, which offers support solutions for women and girls with a focus on building awareness of the effects of gender-based violence. Given her chosen metaphor, “Pull yourself up by your bootstraps”, you can imagine she has a lot to share while providing a positive outlook.

Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago multi-media journalist Soyini Grey, has a career that is marked by her passion for storytelling and dedication to regional journalism. The phrase “the fool speaks, but the wise listens,” carries meaning to Grey to the importance of her approaches to journalism and engagement with various cultures and perspectives, and luckily in this episode, we have the opportunity to learn even more about Grey’s ethos, values and the weight this quote has in her world.

Did you know that in the UK, there are various examples of both vertical and horizontal, “Climbing the greasy pole,” games dating back to at least the 1850’s?  In this week’s special programme celebrating Saint Lucia’s Nobel Laureate Festival, Delia’s guest is Mr Cornelius Rene, an Ophthalmic Surgeon based at the world leading and teaching hospital, Addenbrooke, in Cambridge, England.  His journey from Saint Lucia, to being the UK’s first Black Consultant Oculoplastic Surgeon is discussed, with examples of his challenges, as he explains how his chosen metaphor resonates with his life and career.

Writer and filmmaker Mervyn Weir is Delia’s guest. Weir’s work has been described as ”powerful, thought-provoking and stimulating”.  His most recent production, Jamaica Love, is a new stage production that brings together singers, musicians and actors to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Windrush, the ship that brought hundreds of West Indian citizens from the Caribbean to the UK. A great example of, ‘going the extra mile!’

Mercedes Benz awarded Delia’s guest, Flavilla Fongang, the “She’s Mercedes” businesswoman award among women such as Sheryl Sandberg, the COO of Facebook. Ms Fongang is also the author of, “The Voices In The Shadow”, a book that features stories of black women in tech and is distributed to secondary schools for free across the UK and Ireland. So, it’ll be very interesting to hear her take on this week’s metaphor, “Fear is the shadow that follows you!”
