77. Raffaello Manacorda on Conscious Sexuality

We are excited to host Raffaello Manacorda on this episode of the Mangu.tv podcast series.


Raffaello is an international Tantra teacher and practitioner with over 15 years of experience. He has undergone intensive training in various styles of Yoga. After completing a Master’s degree in Philosophy, Raffaello spent more than twelve years living in alternative communities, experimenting with radically alternative lifestyles. During this period, he encountered Tantra, which developed into a lifelong practice. He serves as lead faculty at the International School of Temple Arts (ISTA) and teaches and lectures worldwide. Raffaello is currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Wisdom Studies at Ubiquity University in California. He is also the co-creator of the ISTA Practitioner Training, a program for coaches and practitioners in the field of conscious sexuality. 

Raffaello discusses conscious sexuality, from his perspective, breaking down the three parts within us from a scientific, political and spiritual framework as well as sharing his perspective on unconscious sexuality.  He looks at the origins, necessity and problematic nature of polarity in sexuality. 

Giancarlo and Raffaello discuss to what extent conscious sexuality can be a transpersonal practice. They speak about some of the most controversial sexual practices, and polarities of non-consensual enlightenment vs. a hyper-individualised society and cult of consent. Furthermore, at which point an individual is a set of habits, beliefs and preconceptions, with experiences informed by discomfort and ego, etc. They share a need for a happy medium, over the tendency to lean towards extremes.

Jorge Ferrer PhD, is a Spanish-American psychologist, renowned for his pioneering work in transpersonal psychology and the integration of spirituality and sexuality. A former professor at the California Institute of Integral Studies, he developed a participatory approach emphasizing embodied relational and pluralistic understandings of spiritual and sexual experiences. Ferrer coined the term Novogomy to describe relational models that transcend the traditional monogamy polyamory binary, promoting more inclusive and authentic connections. His notable works include Love and Freedom and Novogamia, where he explores the intersection of love, freedom, and spiritual intimacy. Through his international counselling practice, Ferrer supports individuals and couples in navigating infidelity, jealousy, sexual incompatibilities, and open relationships, aiming to foster conscious and fulfilling intimate lives.

Jorge supports in unpacking a recent tantra retreat, in which Giancarlo was asked to leave during his level two training. They discuss the catalyst of this decision: Giancarlo's unease with one of the workshops and Jorge shares from his perspective why it may have been uncomfortable for him and for the school.

Jorge and Giancarlo discuss sustaining a monogamous relationship through sexual encounters without orgasm. Jorge speaks about abuse of power, sexual repression and sexual deconditioning. He also founded and is the director of an educational non-profit in Chile, the ECOH Foundation.

Christopher shares the story of his upbringing in Chile, eyesight issues and an interest in the mind led to his intellectual pursuit. Dr David Luke is Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Greenwich where he has been teaching an undergraduate course on the Psychology of Exceptional Human Experience since 2009, and he is also Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Psychedelic Research, Imperial College.

His research focuses on transpersonal experiences, anomalous phenomena and altered states of consciousness, especially via psychedelics, having published more than 100 academic papers in this area, including thirteen books, most recently: Breaking Convention: A Seismic Shift in Psychedelia (2022) and DMT Entity Encounters (2021.

When he is not running clinical drug trials with LSD, doing DMT field experiments or observing apparent weather control with Mexican shamans, he directs the Ecology, Cosmos and Consciousness salon. He is a co-founder and trustee of Breaking Convention: International Conference on Psychedelic Consciousness.

He has given over 400 invited public lectures and conference presentations; won teaching, research and writing awards; organised numerous festivals, conferences, symposia, seminars, retreats, expeditions, pagan cabarets and pilgrimages; and has studied techniques of consciousness alteration from South America to India, from the perspective of scientists, shamans and Shivaites. He lives life on the edge of Sussex.

Her book Your Body, Your Best Friend: End the Confidence-Crushing Pursuit of Unrealistic Beauty Standards & Embrace Your True Power (New Harbinger, 2020) has captured the attention of yoga and mental health professionals as a guidebook for overcoming body image dissatisfaction. Her Adore Your Body Transformational Programs provide concierge, results-oriented body image coaching, and, The Yoga Clinic helps students, teachers, and health professionals to learn about empowered self-care for the body. Erica discusses her upbringing in Wisconsin, the loss of her father and her struggle with migraines throughout her youth. Playing music led her to New York to study Ethnomusicology, she shares her academic interests, including activism and gender imbalance in music and her decision to follow the path of yoga, and become a yoga teacher. Erica shares her yoga and self-care practices and her journey supporting people to embrace the body they are born into.

We are delighted to introduce the first episode of an Astrology Series on the Mangu.tv podcast, with guest Robert Mitchell.

Robert Mitchell is a religious and Jungian scholar, a Western psychedelic lineage holder, an astrologer, a practical mystic, a podcaster, and a writer.  He received an undergraduate degree in Religious Studies from Syracuse University and a Masters in Counseling from The California Institute of Integral Studies. For thirty years, he has worked worldwide to strengthen people’s relationships with the transpersonal intelligence that animates their lives. He uses tools of Western esoterica that include astrology, psychedelics, meditation and dreaming.  His specific interest is working with the unique structure of the consciousness of the individual, while demythologizing the psychedelic experience, removing the need to fetishize it or make it something exotic. His motto is: “People don’t need to use more Paychedelics, they need to be more Psychedelic. 

In the first episode of this Astrology series, Robert introduces its origins, his work within Astrology and the people who influenced him. He discusses the significance of each person's birth chart and how one's life is mapped out at birth and is not random. 

Robert and Giancarlo pick two popular figures; Elon Musk and Taylor Swift. Robert discusses each birth chart and looks at how it informs the way that they move through the world. He explains in detail how planetary alignment at birth can create potential challenges and positive attributes in each birth chart.

He shares the synchronicities that led him on a life-changing solo trip to Central America for 4 months of heart-led backpacking and, his current life path.  

Giancarlo and John discuss mythology & eros, they speak about ways of opening up to spirit and cosmic guidance. They discuss relational repair and holding space for our pain, and its potency to open up space for spiritual guidance and the soul journey.
