Genesis 16: When We Take Matters Into Our Own Hands | Trusting God's Timing in the Mess
In Genesis 16, Abram and Sarai's impatience leads to a heartbreaking detour—jealousy, cruelty, and a fleeing servant. But in the desert of despair, God meets Hagar as El Roi, the God Who Sees, promising hope amid the pain. Drawing from James 4, Proverbs 19, Psalm 56, and 2 Corinthians 1:20, this sermon explores the wreckage of our own plans versus the faithfulness of God's "Yes" in Christ.

Ever felt like forcing God's promises? Or unseen in your struggle? Discover how to submit your timelines, cry out in fear, and trust His perfect purpose—even when it hurts. What's one plan you're submitting to Him today?

Trusting God's Unbreakable Promise - Genesis 15
In the arid wilderness of waiting, Abram stands childless and landless, his heart echoing the drought-stricken farmer's desperate hope for rain. Yet God breaks through the silence with a vision of stars beyond counting—promises of descendants, a homeland, and a blessing that ripples to all nations. Drawing from Genesis 15, this sermon explores how Abram's raw honesty meets God's unwavering faithfulness, culminating in a one-sided covenant where the Divine alone walks the path of commitment. Like Abram, we're invited to trade self-reliance for simple trust: faith credited as righteousness, echoing Paul's words in Romans 4 and pointing straight to Jesus, who bore the curse to secure our eternal inheritance. No matter your "dry season"—personal doubts, global chaos, or fears about making it to heaven—discover how God's delays are never denials, and His promises are as sure as the stars. Join us at Lindisfarne Anglican as we step into the land of hope He's showing you.

God's Faithfulness vs. the World's False Promises: Lessons from Abram and Lot
In this sermon on Genesis 13-14, we see the tension between immediate gratification and long-term faithfulness. Recapping Genesis 12's promise to Abram and his failure in Egypt, the message dives into Abram and Lot's separation: Abram selflessly lets Lot choose first, but Lot impulsively selects the lush Jordan plain toward Sodom—beautiful like Eden or Egypt, yet without seeking God's guidance—leading to future peril, including capture in chapter 14's war. Abram, left with seemingly barren hills, receives God's reaffirming promise of vast land and countless offspring (Gen. 13:14-17), pointing to the spiritual blessings we inherit in Christ (Eph. 1:3). Abram then heroically rescues Lot with 318 men, meets the mysterious priest-king Melchizedek (foreshadowing Jesus as eternal Priest-King in Ps. 110:4 and Heb. 7), tithes humbly, and rejects the king of Sodom's worldly riches to honor God's provision. The core challenge: In big decisions, reject "foolish" worldly wisdom (1 Cor. 3:19) for God's way—yielding true, everlasting blessings like peace, joy, and eternity in Christ over temporary thrills that fade.

Chasing Fleeting Riches: Godliness, Contentment, and Eternal Investments (1 Timothy 6)

Key takeaways:
- Godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Tim 6:6-8)

Five Steps to Transform Lindisfarne for Jesus
In this talk prior to our 2025 Annual Meeting, we celebrate God’s faithfulness over the past year, marked by our centenary celebrations, the arrival of our new Children and Young Person Minister, Jono, and a 150% increase in giving since 2018 ($65,000 to $165,000). Reflecting on the Rector’s Report, we cast a vision for 2026 and beyond to be a church for Lindisfarne, making disciples of Jesus, especially among families with kids under 12. Through five steps—Shine, Share, Strengthen, Serve, Send—we aim to shine God’s love, share the gospel, strengthen and grow disciples , serve others with our gifts, and send people out into mission and leadership. With a dream of growing our kids’ ministry and giving, we invite you to pray, serve, give generously to what God is doing in this place. We’d also love you to share your ideas in our survey to help shape our ministry over the next few years. Join us in building a church that transforms lives for Jesus! (Scriptures: Matthew 5:16, Matthew 28:18-20, Psalm 78:4-7, Ephesians 4:12, Acts 13:2-3, 2 Corinthians 9:6-11)

Jesus, the Fig Tree, and Moving Mountains: A Call to Bold Prayer and True Worship
In this sermon, we dive into Mark 11:12-25, where Jesus curses a barren fig tree and cleanses the temple, revealing a powerful "acted parable" about God’s judgment on fruitless worship. Far from being a "chill hippie," Jesus confronts corruption, quoting Jeremiah 7:11 to expose the temple’s failure as a house of prayer for all nations. The fig tree’s withering mirrors the temple’s spiritual barrenness, leading to Jesus’ teaching on faith-filled prayer. When He says to move “this mountain” (v. 23), He’s pointing to the temple and any power opposing God’s kingdom. We’re called to pray boldly against injustice—like systemic harm or ideologies causing division—while forgiving as Jesus did (v. 25). The sermon ends with a challenge from Mark 11:27-33, urging us to fear God over worldly concerns (Psalm 111:10, Proverbs 1:7), trusting in His mercy and power to transform lives.

Do Your Possessions Own You? Finding True Fulfilment
John Wheatley explores the story of the rich young ruler, a man who seemed to have it all—wealth, influence, morality, and a bright future. Yet, despite his achievements, he was spiritually frustrated and empty. John challenges us to reflect on our relationship with possessions: Do we control them, or do they control us? The rich young ruler’s independence and attachment to wealth kept him from true fulfilment, as he placed his trust in himself rather than God. Jesus’ radical call to “sell everything and follow” reveals that spiritual fulfilment comes not from what we have or do, but from a childlike dependence on God. Through this message, we’re invited to surrender everything to God, trust Him fully, and find the satisfaction that only He can provide.

Following Jesus through Doubt and Pride
In this sermon on Mark 8:1-21, we explore Jesus feeding 4,000 people and confronting the doubts of his disciples and the stubbornness of the Pharisees. Despite the disciples' wavering faith, Jesus patiently guides them, showing it's okay to struggle while trusting him. The Pharisees, however, demand signs and try to control Jesus, missing his true identity. Jesus warns against the "yeast" of their pride and control, urging us to humbly follow him. Reflect on Jesus’ stories, let his grace shape you, and trust him as your unfailing guide.
