We are joined by Peter Liljedahl. Peter authored Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics: 14 Teaching Practices For Enhancing Learning. This book and the thinking behind it has spread quite quickly and, after listening to Peter, I think you will see why. Peter will share some insights into the research that went into this work as well as insights into some of the practices shared in the book.

We are joined by Mike Schmoker. Mike is a former administrator, English Teacher, and football coach. He has authored several articles and also has several book titles to his credit.  This includes FOCUS: Elevating the Essentials to Radically Improve Student Learning;  and Association of Education Publishers book of the year finalist Results Now. Today, we look at the second edition of that best seller, Results Now 2.0: The Untapped Opportunities for Swift, Dramatic Gains in Achievement.

We are joined by Alyssa Gallagher. Alyssa co-leads BTS Spark in North America, helping school leaders across the United States and Canada access leadership coaching and professional development. She has experience as a teacher, site leader, and district leader. Alyssa has a track record of success in leadership leading to her work being featured by CNN, Forbes, Wired, The Economist, and 60 Minutes. Alyssa has two current ASCD Books to her credit: Design Thinking for School Leaders (2018) and Design Thinking in Play (2020). Today, we will talk about her upcoming ASCD release, due out May 2024, Embracing MESSY Leadership: How the Experience of 20,000 School Leaders Can Transform You and Your School.

We are joined by Allison Rodman. Allie is the Founder and Chief Learning Officer of The Learning Loop, an educational consulting organization that provides professional learning services to districts, schools, nonprofit organizations, and businesses worldwide. Her work focuses on adult learners and includes the book Personalized Professional Learning: A Job-Embedded Pathway for Elevating Teacher Voice. Today we have the opportunity to talk with Allie on her newest book from ASCD titled Still Learning: Strengthening Professional and Organizational Capacity.

We are joined by a couple gentlemen with Wisconsin roots, Ryan Ruggles and Tim Schigur. These long-time educators collaborated to write Successful Middle School Instructional Technology published by the Association for Middle Level Education. Both Ryan and Tim have experiences as teachers and administrators at the school and district level, sharing a passion for leadership and effective use of technology.

Thomas serves as the Director of Innovation for Future Ready Schools.  He has testified before the U.S. Congress and has appeared on various television and radio programs. Murray serves as a regular conference keynote speaker, and has been named one of the “20 to Watch” by NSBA, the “National/Global EdTech Leader of the Year”, the “Education Thought Leader of the Year”, and the “Education Policy Person of the Year” by the Academy of Arts and Sciences. His last two books have reached best-seller status.  In this interview, we get to know Thomas and focus on one of those best sellers -  Personal & Authentic: Designing Learning Experiences That Impact A Lifetime.

We are joined by Dr. Thomas Guskey. Tom has a storied career in the field of education.  This includes experience as a classroom teacher, school administrator, researcher, professor, and author.  You probably know him best as an authority in the area of grading, though this is just one of his areas of expertise. In this interview, we get to know Tom and focus on the book What We Know About Grading: What Works, What Doesn’t, and What’s Next published by ASCD.  Tom and Susan Brookhart put this together with the support of many contributors so that practitioners have what they need to know about grading all in one place.

We are joined by educator, author, and sought after consultant, Dr. John Hannigan. John has authored a number of books around social emotional learning and behavior support in schools.  He currently serves as a consultant helping schools ensure that systems are in place so that every student can succeed socially and academically.  In the interview, he will be discussing the second edition of Don’t Suspend Me: An Alternative Discipline Toolkit.   This book focuses on the why and the how behind using alternative practices to student removal from the school setting.  In addition, the book truly is a toolkit full of examples to get started with the work.

Today, we  are joined by a good friend of WASCD, Mr. Pete Hall.  If you were able to attend our Fall Conference, you had the opportunity to spend the day with Mr. Hall.  He was gracious enough to sit down with us afterward to share some wisdom.  In the interview, he will be discussing his newest book Always Strive to Be a Better You: How Ordinary People Can Live Extraordinary Lives.  In this book, Pete shares lessons for all of us, in or outside of education, to live better lives. Pete is an experienced educator, administrator, author, and educational consultant.

We are joined by Dr. Luis Cruz.  He will be discussing his Solution Tree Press book, Time For Change: 4 Essential Skills for Transformational School and District Leaders.  In this book, Anthony Muhammad and Luis Cruz share leadership skills ensuring positive change for students actually gets implemented.  Dr. Cruz has been a teacher and administrator across the K-12 levels, assisting schools reach high levels of learning for all students.  Largely, through the professional learning community model championed by Bob Eaker, Rick DuFour, and many others.
