No Fall Weddings: Is Penn State more dangerous without James Franklin?
Throughout the year, Matt Tamanini and Jami Jurich will be getting into all things Ohio State and college football on "No Fall Weddings." On the new episode of Land-Grant Podcast Network’s “No Fall Weddings,” Jami Jurich and Matt Tamanini discuss whether or not the Penn State Nittany Lions are more threatening to upend the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes now, having lost four straight games and having fired their coach, than they were when they were expected to be a national title contender. Uncut: Ryan Day on it being personal as Jim Knowles comes back to Columbus
Throughout the year, the Land-Grant Podcast Network will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. On today’s episode of “Land-Grant Uncut,” we are bringing you unedited audio from Ryan Day's Tuesday, Oct. 28 press conference from the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Coming off of a bye week and heading into a matchup with Penn State on Saturday, Day had a lot to discuss, but he started his media availability by remembering two Buckeye legends, Nick Mangold and Bob Maggs. Looking ahead to Saturday's matchup, Day said that while Penn State hasn't had the season that they anticipated, the Nittany Lions are still one of the most talented teams in the country, and they will be playing with nothing to lose against the Buckeyes. The head coach discusses how Josh Padilla is faring in the offensive line rotation, the evolving philosophy around the running game, the team's impressive APR and academic results, whether he got lost in a corn maze this weekend, and more. And while he remains political and magnanimous, Day does say that when assistant coaches choose to leave to take jobs at OSU's rivals, it does become a little personal; so we will see how the Buckeyes respond to having Jim Knowles back in The Horseshoe this weekend. As always, the press conference audio supplied by Ohio State struggles when it comes to media members asking questions. However, the audio quality from the podium is crystal clear. Silver Bullets Podcast: Remembering Nick Mangold, B1G results, and Penn State preview
Ohio State enjoyed its second bye week — or “improvement week,” if you like — over the weekend, while most of the rest of the conference kept playing. We took the opportunity to get a look at some of the remaining competition, but what seemed like a strong slate of games was a bit disappointing in the end. Before we went around the Big Ten to see how other teams made out, we discussed the tragic and untimely passing of former Ohio State center Nick Mangold, who lost his battle with kidney disease at far too young an age. Mangold was a monster in the middle of the OSU offensive line during his time in Columbus and enjoyed a productive NFL career as well. He also seemed to be well liked by just about everyone he interacted with. We pay our respects to the fallen Buckeye legend. After that, we looked around the B1G to see how the other teams made out. Reality set in for UCLA in the Hoosier State, with Indian taking the Bruins to the woodshed. Oregon surprisingly struggled against Wisconsin but did enough to get the win. The Wolverines won the Paul Bunyan Trophy in the battle of the Mitten State, and Rutgers picked up a vital win late after a wild Purdue turnover to stay in the hunt for a bowl berth. We didn’t expect Iowa to spank Minnesota, but that’s what happened. Nebraska also outlasted Northwestern as both teams tried to throw the game away late, but only one team could pull that off. We also looked ahead to the schedule that lies ahead on Saturday. There are always some intriguing matchups and this week is no exception. Finally, we previewed the big meeting with Penn State. It’s fair to say the season hasn’t gone according to plan for the Nittany Lions, but there’s no animal more dangerous than one that is wounded and cornered. Ohio State cannot take the Nitts for granted. Saturday’s visitors are talented, even if they haven’t had their way of things this season and their visit to Columbus will be seen as an early bowl game and a potential springboard for a decent finish to the season and an actual bowl game. We selected our picks to click in the game for the Buckeyes and tried our hand at predicting the final score. We would love to hear from you, so please reach out with your feedback and questions below in the comments section or send us an email at SilverBulletsPod@gmail.com. Any questions directed toward us will be answered on our next show. Be sure to subscribe, rate, review, share, and follow the show over on Twitter at @SilvrBulletsPod. As always, thanks for listening! 0:20 - We remember the late Nick Mangold and take a tour around the rest of the Big Ten. 23:10 - It isn’t the Ohio State-Penn State game we envisioned, but it’s the one we have. We try to get you ready for one of the biggest games on the remaining OSU schedule. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Off-Script Ohio: Midseason Awards, Penn State Preview, and a Clearer Path to Indy
On this week’s Off-Script Ohio, brought to you by Land-Grant Holy Land, Cole VanWiechen and Joey Gertz used Ohio State’s bye week to take a breather, and take inventory. With the Buckeyes sitting undefeated and playing their most balanced football in years, the duo broke down their midseason awards, the national picture, and next week’s home matchup against Penn State. No surprises atop the leaderboard. Both Cole and Joey named Julian Sayin as Ohio State’s MVP, with the true freshman quarterback leading the Big Ten in completion percentage and yards per attempt. For Offensive Player of the Year, Cole leaned toward Austin Sierveld, praising the lineman’s consistency up front, while both agreed Jeremiah Smith has been the most dominant skill player in college football. On defense, Cole went with Arvell Reese, whose emergence as an every-down linebacker has anchored Matt Patricia’s top-ranked unit, while Joey gave the nod to Caleb Downs, who continues to erase mistakes on the back end. Bo Jackson was the unanimous Newcomer of the Year, having delivered game-changing versatility in both the run and pass game, while the coaching honors went to, who else but Matt Patricia and the defensive staff. The Surprise of the Year? For Joey, it’s freshman safety Jaylen McClain. Cole chose Lorenzo Styles Jr., who’s exceeded expectations at slot cornerback and solidified one of the best secondaries in the nation. Even with Ohio State idle, the playoff picture shifted. Ole Miss topped Oklahoma 34–26 behind an explosive showing from Winston Watkins and Kewan Lacy. Indiana continued its dominant run with a 56–6 rout of UCLA. Vanderbilt held off Missouri in a defensive slugfest, while Washington dismantled Illinois 42–25 behind four total touchdowns from Demond Williams. Down South, Texas A&M steamrolled LSU 49–25 in Death Valley, ending the Brian Kelly era in Baton Rouge, and BYU remained undefeated with a 41–27 win over Iowa State. The national race remains open, but increasingly, Ohio State and Indiana look like the Big Ten’s clearest playoff contenders. Next up: a reeling Penn State team (3–4) visits Ohio Stadium after firing head coach James Franklin earlier this month. Since a narrow Week 4 loss to Oregon, the Nittany Lions have dropped four straight, including defeats to UCLA, Northwestern, and Iowa, each one sealed by a late defensive breakdown. With quarterback Drew Allar out for the season, Penn State’s offense has sputtered, ranking 100th nationally in total yards. Ohio State enters as a 20-point favorite, and both Cole and Joey expect a businesslike performance. Joey predicts 31–10, with Bo Jackson eclipsing the 100-yard mark. Cole sees a slightly closer 27–10 final but expects the Buckeyes’ defense to continue its dominance. Next week, Off-Script Ohio will return with full coverage of the Penn State game, plus early looks at the Buckeyes’ playoff path and the start of Ohio State basketball’s new season after a 103–74 preseason win over Ohio University. Uncut: Ryan Day discusses potential change at right guard
21 press conference from the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Presumably, since there is no game this weekend, Coach Day kept his media availability to a tight 15 minutes, but did manage to address a number of pressing topics. Without committing to anything, Day did say that they would evaluate the best option at right guard during the off week, which would seem to indicate that he is at least open to replacing starter Tegra Tshabola with Joshua Padilla. He also complimented true freshman wide receiver Quincy Porter and said that the starters would need the younger guys to step up more as the season goes on. Day also dove into the off-week plans, Julian Sayin's growing confidence, and more. As always, the press conference audio supplied by Ohio State struggles when it comes to media members asking questions. However, the audio quality from the podium is crystal clear. Silver Bullets Podcast: Wisconsin rewind and other B1G results
Ohio State went on the road for the second straight week and the Buckeyes did their job again, bringing home a 34-0 shutout victory over the Wisconsin Badgers. There was a time not too long ago when a win by that score on the road would have been considered an amazing accomplishment, but with the Badgers’ fortunes the last couple of years, it left some OSU fans wanting more. A shutout in college football against a power conference team on the road isn’t easy, so kudos to Matt Patricia’s defense. Ohio State’s offense stopped itself a few times, and Wisconsin hung tough for a while against the run, but ultimately the game ended up being a comfortable road victory for the men of the Scarlet & Gray. We discussed the key moments, plays, and players in the game, checked on our final score predictions, and perused the stats page to see if we picked the right players to click on Saturday. We went a combined three out of four, so not too bad. Following our Wisconsin rewind, we looked around the rest of the Big Ten to see how other teams made out in Week 8. Penn State lost a tight one at Iowa in the Nittany Lions’ first game in the post-James Franklin era. It was not an aerial battle, with both teams doing damage on the ground. Minnesota, Indiana, Oregon, and Northwestern had comfortable wins. Michigan pulled away from Washington in the second half, UCLA nipped Maryland to keep the Bruins’ resurgent run going, and USC lost on the road to a non-conference rival. We also looked ahead to a great slate of games during Ohio State’s second bye week of the 2025 season. There is plenty of intrigue in Illinois at Washington and Minnesota at Iowa, while the two teams from the Mitten State play for the Paul Bunyan Trophy. Nebraska looks to bounce back against Northwestern. Rutgers faces a must-win situation to keep bowl eligibility on the table, while Wisconsin seems primed to suffer another beatdown. UCLA is going to have to raise its level to get past Indiana on the road. Without an Ohio State game to preview, that’s our show. We spent a little more time on the other games around the Big Ten this week, so you’re definitely not getting short-changed. We’ll be back next week to preview Penn State and check on the bye week Big Ten fallout. We would love to hear from you, so please reach out with your feedback and questions below in the comments section or send us an email at SilverBulletsPod@gmail.com Any questions directed toward us will be answered on our next show. Be sure to subscribe, rate, review, share, and follow the show over on Twitter at @SilvrBulletsPod. As always, thanks for listening! 0:20 - The Buckeyes were better than the Badgers, and Julian Sayin continues to be good at football. 22:07 - The Big Ten was full of interesting games, especially that Penn State-Iowa tussle at Kinnick Stadium. We also have a lot of intriguing games that will have us flipping between multiple channels on Saturday. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Off-Script Ohio: Buckeyes blank Wisconsin 34–0, prove total dominance in Madison
On this week’s Off-Script Ohio, brought to you by Land-Grant Holy Land, Cole VanWiechen and Joey Gertz broke down Ohio State’s 34–0 demolition of Wisconsin, a wire-to-wire performance that showed why the Buckeyes are the most complete team in college football. Julian Sayin was sensational, throwing for nearly 400 yards and multiple touchdowns as Ohio State “aired it out” early and never looked back. Carnell Tate and Jeremiah Smith headlined the receiving corps, Tate hauled in six catches for 111 yards and two scores, while Smith added nine for 97. Bo Jackson chipped in with 57 receiving yards out of the backfield, and the Buckeyes spread the wealth to Innis, Graham, and others. While the passing attack flourished, the run game remained inconsistent, and right tackle Tegra Tshabola could be in danger of losing his spot to Josh Padilla after another uneven showing. Defensively, Ohio State continues to make a case as the nation’s best unit. The front seven overwhelmed Wisconsin from the jump, while Sonny Styles recorded his first career interception. Matt Patricia’s defense has been compared to Georgia’s 2021 group, and it’s hard to argue. Every level, from the defensive line up front to Reese and Styles to the secondary, has been lights-out. Wisconsin managed just 142 total yards and failed to cross midfield until late in the third quarter. Around the country, chaos reigned. Georgia outlasted Ole Miss 43–35 in an offensive shootout, Alabama kept rolling with a 37–20 win over Tennessee, and Notre Dame surged back into playoff contention after running for 300 yards in a 34–24 win over USC. Meanwhile, Miami’s playoff hopes took a nosedive with a 24–21 loss to Louisville, and BYU’s unbeaten run continued after a gritty 24–21 win over Utah. With a bye week ahead, the Buckeyes sit atop the Big Ten at 4–0, tied only with Indiana. Oregon, USC, and Michigan remain in the mix, while Illinois tries to stay alive after an early stumble. Both Cole and Joey expect Ohio State and Indiana to meet in Indianapolis, a matchup that could define the conference race. Next up for the Buckeyes. Rest, reset, and a clearer view of the Big Ten landscape before a crucial November stretch. For now, Ohio State looks every bit like a championship team, balanced, dominant, and hungry for more.
