Ladies Love Paul Rudd
Episode 16: Anchorman with Nezka Pfeifer
Today, we appreciate the hell out of Paul Rudd in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) with Nezka Pfeifer. There was not nearly enough Paul Rudd in this movie, but there’s a lot of Baxter, who needs his own film franchise. Larissa is kind of appalled at the fact that Amy and Nezka haven’t seen this movie before, Nezka explains how the orthodontia headgear gave her unexpected PTSD, and Amy reveals that she has two Beverly Hills 90210 novelizations, which sends the podcast into a “We Love Brenda/Shannen Doherty” rabbit hole that it might never recover from.
Three important lessons:
+ Watching Anchorman is far more important than going to college classes when it comes to longterm life success.
+ Afternoon Delight is not officially about having an affair, nor is it about going down on your band members.
+ Larissa is a far better person than Amy, but they both will take down Kelly Taylor lovers.

Ladies Love Paul Rudd
Episode 15: The Greatest Event in Television History with Gena Radcliffe
Today, we appreciate the hell out of Paul Rudd in The Greatest Event in Television History (2012-2014) with Gena Radcliffe. This four-episode series recreating the opening credits of Simon & Simon, Hart to Hart, Too Close for Comfort and Bosom Buddies was such unexpected Pure Paul Rudd Bliss that we recommend this as the cure for all your ills. It stars Adam Scott, Jon Hamm, Paul Scheer, Amy Poehler, Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Jon Glaser, Jason Mantzoukas, June Diane Raphael, Chelsea Peretti, Tom Hanks, Peter Scolari Billy Joel, Horatio Sanz, and Jeff Probst. Our discussion covers a lot of 70s and 80s essentials, including Amy and Gena explaining Battle of the Network Stars and Hollywood Squares to the young Australian, and Gena explains her adoration of Tom Hanks as his career arced from playing a fuckboy to salt-of-the-Earth characters. Amy shows off her impressive, yet fairly useless skill of recalling actors in TV shows, and Larissa finds her new purpose in life and it’s quite possibly the best purpose anyone has ever had, ever.
Three important lessons:
+ Brenda and Dylan FOREVER. That’s it, that’s all you need to know. We will fight you if you try to disagree, really, really we will. (Stay tuned for our “We Hate Kelly Taylor” podcast.)
+ Round the Twist is the second Australian national anthem and the only true way to confirm if someone is Australian: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPxJ6RR40ZU
+ Jeff Probst is an unexpected delight and we all adore him now.
Most non-TGEITH references we make in this episode:
Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze and C. Thomas Howell in The Outsiders, Facts of Life, Beverly Hills 90210, Knight Rider and April, The A-Team and Amy, Ann Jillian and Jennifer Slept Here, the length of opening credits, television network marketing, M*A*S*H, The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, Dear John, Girls, Sex and the City, Golden Girls, Who’s the Boss and Alyssa Milano, How Did This Get Made, June Diane Raphael’s crush on Vin Diesel, Law & Order, Dukes of Hazzard, Daisy Duke doll, Game of Thrones, Westworld, Justified, Friends, Big Bang Theory, King of Queens, Kevin Can Wait, Battle of the Network Stars, Circus of the Network Stars, Dancing with the Stars, Greg Evigan and My Two Dads, Malcom Jamal-Warner, Telly Savalas, Welcome Back Kotter and Horseshack and Gabe Kaplan, Melissa Sue Anderson and Little House on the Prairie, Brian Robbins and Head of the Class, Hollywood Squares, Paul Linde, Phyllis Diller and Fang, The West Wing, Family Ties, Round the Twist, Manimal, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, Jackie Earl Hayley, Buffy, Zach Galifianakis, Dead Pilots Society, John Hodgman

Ladies Love Paul Rudd
Episode 14: Forgetting Sarah Marshall with Emily Bennett
Today, we appreciate the hell out of Paul Rudd in Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) with Emily Bennett. We mostly loved this movie, a sweet and honest romantic comedy after a heart-wrenching break-up based on several of Jason Segel’s own break-ups. Kristen Bell is amazing as always, Jack McBrayer steals every scene he’s in, and Paul Rudd is so damn attractive that he rocks a visor better than anyone should be able to and gives good advice about what to do with lemons. However, Sarah Marshall is not a bitch and that’s one big misstep in this movie that Amy is ready to throw down over.

Three important lessons:
+ Emily loves Jason Segel on top of Paul Rudd. Set your Google Alerts for her impending slash fic.
+ Ironing clothes will make you feel like an adult in a good way, but don’t do it too often.
+ After erect vs. flaccid, please consider how much screen time the penis gets before giving a movie a final MPAA rating.

Episode 13: Hudson Valley Ballers with Shannon Campe
Today, we appreciate the hell out of Paul Rudd in Hudson Valley Ballers (2013) with Shannon Campe. Our new Pure Paul Rudd Bliss Plan delivers us very scantily clad Paul Rudd, super-seductive Kate McKinnon and utter hilarity from Paula Pell and James Anderson. Shannon alerts us to the fabulousness of Paul Rudd’s calves, and how he would be the sassiest of the local drifters in our neighborhood.

Three important lessons:
+ Everyone needs a Winter Lover. EVERYONE.
+ Bed and Brunch is the Best. Idea. Ever.

Episode 12: Travel Man with Amber Stewart
Today, we appreciate the hell out of Paul Rudd in Travel Man (2016) with Amber Stewart. Richard Ayoade takes Paul to Helsinki for 48 hours and it is the Pure Paul Rudd Bliss that we’ve been searching for. Amber reveals yet another truth about Paul Rudd: you can dare him to do anything and he’ll always accept. Plus, we discuss Tiger Dome Island, why licorice is terrible and Larissa’s plan to kidnap the Finnish president’s dog.
Three important lessons:
+ The Richard Ayoade Fan Club works fast, and Amber will soon be ruling the world.
+ A women’s bathroom is a strange place to bring someone you’ve just met.
+ Aussies are very bold, and will double-dog dare you right off the bat.

Episode 11: The 40 Year-Old Virgin with Erin Gambrill
Today, we appreciate the hell out of Paul Rudd in The 40 Year-Old Virgin (2005) with Erin Gambrill of the Ladies Who Library podcast. The 40 Year-Old Virgin is a sex-positive parallel to The Oh in Ohio, and we all loved it despite a very questionable turn towards the end. This whole film is about why all guys should be like Andy Stitzer and why everyone should be smitten with Catherine Keener. Paul Rudd is back to peak Paul Rudd-cuteness, even with a questionable haircut and his character turning into a jerk halfway through the movie. PLUS we learn about Larissa’s goal to be sexual and vaguely threatening — just like Jane Lynch.

Of note:
+ Women’s breasts do kind of feel like they’re filled with sand.
+ Erin’s Michael McDonald impression is a thing of beauty.
+ Larissa is a terrible person who will make you listen to the same album over and over, but still hasn’t seen Grease 2.

Episode 10: They Came Together with Sarah Sheppard
Today, we appreciate the hell out of Paul Rudd in They Came Together (2014) with Sarah Sheppard. This movie is pure Paul Rudd bliss in all its ridiculousness — and please note the disclaimer in the beginning as we mostly giggle a lot and retell jokes but are not nearly as funny as Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Jason Mantzoukas, Ed Helms, Ellie Kemper and Bill Hader — but really, who is?

Three important things:
+ The New York Times article on Eggbert: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/12/nyregion/santa-as-talking-egg-returns-to-post-in-new-windsor-ny.html
+ When flying into New York, please consult Sarah and Amy on the most ideal travel routes.
+ Colin Firth is damn fine in Kingsmen and you need to watch it after you watch They Came Together.

Episode 9: The Oh in Ohio with Erin Ayers
Today, we appreciate the hell out of Danny DeVito and Liza Minelli in The Oh in Ohio (2006). We wanted to appreciate Paul Rudd and Parker Posey as well, but their characters are awful and this movie is so infuriating that it made Amy question the entire premise of “Ladies Love Paul Rudd.” HOWEVER, it did bring us the Magnificent Masturbation Caftan, which every lady should own, and Erin brilliantly explains why every line of Mischa Barton’s dialogue is really from a motivational tape for middle-aged divorced men.

Of note:
+ TURTLES ARE OPAQUE! YOU CAN’T FOOL US, SCIENCE GUY!
+ The vibrator IS a dick teammate!
+ A prize to anyone who tallies how many times we say “masturbation” and “orgasm” in this episode.

Episode 8: Ant-Man with Christelle
Today, we appreciate the hell out of Paul Rudd in Marvel’s Ant-Man (2015). Christelle joins Amy (as Larissa has mysteriously gone missing into the Australian Heat Hellmouth), and reveals the true male Avenger Initiation: Shirtlessness. We very much appreciate partially-naked Paul Rudd, fully-clothed Paul Rudd and spy-gear Paul Rudd. We’re far less happy about how the women characters are written, and we prove that we should be put in charge of the Ant-Man 2 script. Also: Luis needs to be in EVERY MARVEL MOVIE FOREVER.

Of note:
+ We really need Agent Peggy Carter back ASAP — only she can save us now.
+ New Life Motto: Never Give Up the Biscuits.
+ Nature is awesome, but it’s even more awesome when you don’t have to go out in it.

Episode 7: Prince Avalanche with Amy and Larissa
Today, we appreciate the hell out of Paul Rudd in Prince Avalanche (2013). And we really do appreciate each small moment in this quiet film about friendship — it’s such a balm for all of the madness going on in the world right now. Everything about it is wonderful and the cinematography is stunningly beautiful. PLUS Paul Rudd has an impressive mustache, Emile Hirsch is earnestly charming in his fingering quest, and they both show off their singer-songwriting skills.

Of note:
+ We probably say “lovely” more times than we say “beautiful” in the Halloween 6 episode.
+ Hot fish is a very strange thing to offer someone.
+ Anyone have suggestions for adorable matching overalls?

Episode 6: Overnight Delivery with Cheryl Wilbur
Today, we appreciate the hell out of Paul Rudd in Overnight Delivery (1998) with Cheryl Wilbur. Actually, we only found three things to appreciate because this movie is even worse than Over Her Dead Body — starting with Marcia Brady resisting peer pressure sex from Paul Rudd, Reese Witherspoon in the tamest strip club ever, and a whole lot of misogyny in the first 20 minutes. It only gets worse in a movie that became a 10 million dollar straight-to-video flop.

Three important lessons:
+ Amy and Larissa have learned not assume a movie will be enjoyable because of fun IMDB photos.
+ This is NOT Cheryl’s favorite movie. (Or it might be, we’re still not sure.)
+ Valentine’s Day can really sneak up on you in a big, big way.

Episode 5: Over Her Dead Body with Amber Hastings
Today, we appreciate the hell out of Paul Rudd in Over Her Dead Body (2008) with Amber Hastings. We try really hard to find other things to appreciate about this RomCom, but the great cast and a few lovely moments are no match for the stupidity of this film. And in one scene, it takes a very unexpected turn and we all angrily decide that we need to burn it to the ground.

Episode 4: 200 Cigarettes with Rachel Rosing
Today, we appreciate the hell out of Paul Rudd in 200 Cigarettes (1999) with Rachel Rosing. Rachel presents her brilliant theory comparing Paul Rudd’s acting when he’s the lead versus when he’s part of an ensemble, although she fails to win us over in her bid to bring back “contouring mutton chops” for men. We all agree that you should leave your lipstick when it falls into utter grossness and that New Year’s Eve is The Worst.

Episode 3: Halloween 6 with Gena Radcliffe
Today, we appreciate the hell out of Paul Rudd in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995) with Gena Radcliffe of the Kill by Kill Podcast. These are the two things you need to know: Paul Rudd is terribly beautiful in this movie, and this movie is quite terrible. It doesn’t make any sense, it’s focused on a mythology that has never been mentioned before in the Halloween franchise and no one is likable. But damn it, Paul Rudd is so beautiful that it’s almost worth the pain. (A prize to anyone who tallies how many times we say “beautiful” in this ep.)
