### Just Run Podcast: An Inspiring Conversation with Alex – Running 24 Hours for Charity
Welcome back to the Just Run Podcast! In today’s episode, we have a truly inspiring guest: Alex, who recently completed a grueling 24-hour run to raise awareness and funds for charity organizations dedicated to supporting the deaf and blind communities. Not only did Alex push the limits of physical endurance, but he also bravely navigated the mental challenges that came with such an extraordinary feat.
#### The Journey Begins
Alex’s journey began with a simple desire to help others and make a difference. “I wanted to raise awareness for those who often live in the shadows, without the ability to communicate or navigate as we do,” he shares. “Running for 24 hours seemed like a fitting way to shine a light on their experiences.”
Initially, the thought of running for an entire day seemed daunting. However, as he trained and learned about the challenges faced by the deaf and blind communities, his motivation grew. “I wanted to embody resilience and show that even when faced with obstacles, we can push through,” he explains.
#### The 24-Hour Challenge
On race day, Alex set out to run not just for himself, but for thousands who face daily struggles due to their disabilities. "Every step I took was a reminder of the hurdles they face," he reflected. As the hours passed, however, the physical and mental strain began to take its toll.
From fatigue to dehydration, Alex faced a myriad of challenges. But amidst the exhaustion, he experienced something unexpected: hallucinations. “At around the 16-hour mark, reality started to blur. I began to see things that weren’t there and hear sounds that didn’t exist,” he recalls.
While this could have deterred many runners, Alex embraced the experience. “It was bizarre, but in a way, it opened my mind to what people living with visual and auditory impairments might creatively perceive the world around them,” he states.
#### A Heartfelt Cause
Alex’s effort went beyond the run; he emphasized the importance of raising awareness. “It’s not just about the miles, it’s about the message,” he said. His run captivated audiences both online and offline, with supporters rallying around him, sharing his journey, and donating to the cause.
In our conversation, Alex expressed gratitude for those who supported him throughout his journey. “I couldn’t have done this without my crew,” he said. “From the volunteers cheering me on to the personal messages from friends and family – that energy pumped me up during the tough moments.”
#### The Impact of the Run
Post-race, Alex has received overwhelming support and recognition for his efforts. “It’s incredible to see the community come together,” he said. “The funds raised will directly support initiatives aimed at improving the lives of those who are deaf or blind, providing them with much-needed resources and opportunities.”
As we wrapped up our conversation, Alex shared advice for other runners looking to tackle their own monumental challenges: “Embrace discomfort, understand your purpose, and remember that every step you take can create a ripple effect of change.”
#### Conclusion
Join us in this powerful episode of the Just Run Podcast as we listen to Alex’s incredible story of resilience, courage, and compassion. His journey not only inspires us to lace up our running shoes but also reminds us of the profound impact we can have when we run for a cause greater than ourselves.

Alright, folks, Buckle up! This weeks epsiode is with a living legend, Kevin Maddern. He’s a father of 3, a man who can fix a blister faster than you can lace up your shoes and give a hug that’s better than any warm-up stretch. He's basically royalty in the Pegasus and South Wales running community, where you'll either find him logging insane miles or handing out watermelon and free massages to fellow runners. He's also a Running Punk and the founder of Mad Running Junkies, a race clearly named after himself.
This is more like a chat with an old friend, rather than an episode. Kev opens up about his personal struggles, what makes him kewp movin and his love for the community. We also share lovely words of support from some of Kevs friends in the community (get your tissues ready). Tune in and enjoy.
This is a special one.
"In this episode, we sit down with two inspiring women, Liv Brown and Frankie Smyth. Frankie, a wellness coach, shares practical tips for living a happier, healthier life, alongside her incredible experience running 250 km through Tanzania. Liv, an experienced runner and cross-training competitor, joins her as they prepare for the upcoming 'Why We Run' event—a 250 km run around Pembrokeshire to raise funds for the mental health charity, Big Moose.
We dive into their journey into running, the chaos of planning and competing in multi-stage ultramarathons, and discuss important topics like women’s involvement in sports, the challenges they face, and the impact of social media on mental health. It’s a deeply engaging and insightful conversation that Nathan and I thoroughly enjoyed with these two incredible women."
This week Nathan speaks to David Kelleher a Irish runner, dad, who was lucky enough to represent Ireland in his age group in mountain running.
This week’s podcast features the inspiring Carwyn Glyn, a determined athlete and devoted father from the small village of Ffostrasol in West Wales, now living in Carmarthenshire. Over the past 7-8 years, Carwyn has taken on countless challenges, from 10K races and Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest to half Ironmans, sprint triathlons, and trail runs. However, his most recent accomplishment is his most extraordinary yet – completing 4 ultra marathons in 4 days for an incredible cause, for his daughter, Mari.
Mari was born at just 31 weeks, facing critical health issues after a heartbreaking diagnosis. It was five long weeks before Carwyn and his wife could hold her for the first time, but after three months, they finally brought their daughter home. To show his gratitude to the medical teams who saved Mari’s life, Carwyn ran 110 miles, passing the three hospitals that played a role in her recovery.
In this episode, Carwyn opens up about his journey, the emotional and physical toll of these challenges, and the profound impact this experience has had on him and his family. His positivity and resilience are truly inspiring. Tune in to hear his story, Mari’s amazing recovery, and what’s next on Carwyn’s agenda. You won’t want to miss this powerful conversation!
