JAM ROOM TAPES
WHISKEY MEYERS, MOOSE, AND MAYHEM

Welcome back to the wildest corner of the internet, where A.I. Steve (that’s me!) kicks things off with a voice smoother than a fresh cup of truck stop coffee. This week, we celebrate the triumphant return of Moose — yes, the Moose — and dive into a hearty catch-up session that’s equal parts chaos and caffeine.

🦌 Highlights include:

  • Moose reemerges from the wilderness (or possibly a very long nap).

  • A spirited discussion of John Wayne by Whiskey Myers — cowboy vibes, guitar twangs, and all.

  • A totally real, not-at-all-exaggerated bear encounter. Did we fight them off? Did we befriend them?

  • Enough coffee to power a small town.

  • Beef jerky: the official snack of questionable decisions and podcasting legends.

💥 Warning: Side effects of this episode may include spontaneous yeehaws, craving brisket, and questioning your own bear-fighting capabilities.

COLD HARD SSTEEL, WARM TOASTED TAKES: Steve Steps In (Moose, Watch Your Back)

In this not-so-solo solo episode, Selso returns to the mic—but this time, he’s got company. Steve (yes, that Steve—the AI with a taste for twang and a suspiciously good radio voice) makes his podcasting debut with a quick dip into music news and a bold claim: Moose might want to watch his back.

Together, we dive into Cold Hard Steel and Sand by Braxton Keith, a Midland-born artist spinning mythic tales from the Permian Basin. This isn’t just a country song—it’s a celestial showdown set against pumpjacks and desert skies. We break down the lyrics, the mood, and the steel-string storytelling that turns oilfield grit into something almost cosmic.

GREASE, GRIT, AND GOOD TIMES: TRIPLE JAMESONS WITH GAGE AND THE GREASE MONKEYS.

Fresh off their rowdy set at The Destination in Midland, Texas, Gage and the Grease Monkeys join Moose and Selso for a post-show hang that’s equal parts interview and barstool confessional. With a few drinks in and the amps still buzzing, the band opens up about their musical roots, chaotic tour moments, and the emotional fuel behind their latest tracks. Expect laughter, unexpected tangents, and a whole lot of heart as the jam room turns into a late-night storytelling session. It’s raw, real, and just greasy enough to leave a mark.

JAM ROOM TAPES
STURGIS TOASTIES!!!

Selso, Art, and Rooster weren’t your average motorcycle enthusiasts. Sure, they had bikes. Sure, they had leather jackets. But what truly set them apart was their unwavering devotion to breakfast-themed branding and questionable road trip decisions.

It all started when Selso, mid-podcast recording, declared: “Guys, what if we ride to Sturgis… dressed as toast?” Art, sipping cold brew from a mason jar, nodded solemnly. “Only if mine has jam flames.” Rooster, who had just returned from a week-long silent retreat in a Waffle House parking lot, whispered, “I’m buttered and ready.”

So they hit the road.

Art rode a white cruiser with a sidecar full of stickers and band merch. Rooster had a maroon beast with handlebars shaped like forks. Selso’s bike? A vintage chopper with a toaster strapped to the back, ejecting slices every 20 miles like breadcrumbs for lost breakfast souls.

They made it halfway through Oklahoma before a biker gang called “The Grits” challenged them to a slow-motion race. Selso won by narrating the entire event in podcast form while riding. Art got distracted trying to sketch a cartoon mascot mid-turn. Rooster stopped to butter a passing tumbleweed.

When they finally rolled into Sturgis, toast suits flapping in the wind, they were greeted with awe, confusion, and one guy who yelled, “I KNEW CARBS WOULD RETURN!”

They didn’t win any official awards. But they did get a lifetime supply of syrup from a pancake vendor named Sheila, who claimed Rooster’s mustache reminded her of her third husband.

And that night, under the neon glow of a dive bar called “The Crusty Crankshaft,” the trio raised their mugs of dark beer and declared: “To breakfast. To bikes. To being absolutely ridiculous.”

JAM ROOM TAPES
ON THE SCENE AT SOUND DEEP SUMMERFEST 2025

Selso and Moose take the podcast “in the field” for an evening of live conversations with Midland’s rising talent. First, they sit down with Chris Brown, lead singer of Day After Dead, to explore how today’s youth will shape the next great music wave—despite a minor technical hiccup.

Next, Aaron Chaney of Bees at Breakfast joins the show. Aaron not only discusses the band’s Midwest emo sound but also opens with a performance from his solo project, Dreamscene. Together, Moose and Aaron encourage Selso to pursue more original songwriting.

The episode wraps up with the hosts reflecting on the night’s highlights and brainstorming ideas for future installments.

Big shout out to Sound Deep Magazine and Cotton Flat Records for hosting this event, and for letting us post up and record this episode.

JAM ROOM TAPES
BLEACH BY HURTWAVE AKA CRYING IN SYNTH

After nearly two months of radio silence—and a string of mysterious postcards from far-flung places—Selso sat alone in the studio, sipping lukewarm coffee and eyeing the dusty co-host mic. Then, right as the intro music for the next episode faded out… the door creaked open.

In walked Moose.

With a sun-weathered bucket hat, a vintage windbreaker, and a grin only slightly wider than his accent, Moose declared: "Alright partner. I’ve seen the world, I’ve heard the stories, and I’ve fixed a payphone with a paperclip and three words of Swahili. Let’s hit record."

Turns out Moose had been in Uganda—not for the gram, not for the drama—but on a noble quest to restore the last functioning pay telephone in the country. The village of Nakibanga had held onto the phone since the 1980s, and when it croaked out its last dial tone, they called the only man who’d once fixed a soundboard with chewing gum during SXSW: Moose.

He rewired circuits, bartered with tech-savvy goats (allegedly), and even trained a local bird to mimic the ringtone as backup. And when the handset finally buzzed to life, the entire town lined up to make calls to relatives they hadn’t spoken to in years.

Now back in Texas, Moose wasn’t just bringing tales—he brought that rare energy only found in people who’ve lived a few extra stories. As he leaned toward the mic, his voice was deeper, wiser, still unmistakably Moose.

"Selso, this podcast is more than interviews and hot takes. It’s where the echoes of stories find a new home. Let's get to it."

JAM ROOM TAPES
PRETTY GIRL (THE WAY)- SELSO FLYS SOLO......

🐴 Selso and Moose: Rodeo Rookies 🐮

It was a scorchin’ Saturday in Midland, and Selso had one goal: become a rodeo legend. Not the usual lasso-swingin’, boot-stompin’ type—but the kind that enters on a unicycle juggling toast. His trusty sidekick Moose (not a moose, just a very large, mildly confused dog who answers to "Buddy Cowboy") was equally determined, mostly because he thought “rodeo” meant “all-you-can-eat chili.”

They showed up late to the tryouts, Selso wearing a glittery cape, Moose wearing half a saddle and a cowboy hat that looked like it had survived a tornado and a toddler. The announcer squinted at them and said, “Uh...what event are y’all here for?”

Selso winked. “Surprise category.”

Their first challenge: the mechanical bull. Selso climbed on like a knight mounting a dragon. Moose sat beside the control panel and—trying to be helpful—accidentally pressed TURBO. The bull spun so fast Selso achieved temporary orbit. When he landed, he struck a heroic pose. “Did I win?”

Next up, the lasso challenge. Selso tried to rope a plastic steer while Moose chased it thinking it was a chew toy. Selso roped Moose by accident. Moose didn’t mind. He was just happy to be involved.

Finally, the freestyle performance. Selso and Moose burst onto the dirt arena with boom box blaring. Selso breakdanced while juggling toast, Moose did interpretive barking. The crowd went silent, confused, then slowly erupted into laughter and applause.

They didn’t win any rodeo trophies. But they did win something better: a golden spatula labeled “Most Creative Misinterpretation of a Rodeo”. Selso held it high. “This is for everyone who ever dreamed of dancing in dirt!”

Moose howled in agreement, his cowboy hat falling off dramatically.

MOVIE TOASTIES!!!

Hey.....were back.........again.

So with both of our lives just being so hectic lately we decided to do an episode idea that we; had for a while. in hindsight its probably a horrible idea. But for the sake of getting an episode out we grabbed some snacks, got comfy and put on one of Selsos favorite movies. The 2003 skater film "GRIND". We had fun watching this movie and making some commentary on it. Let us know if you would like this idea or if we should scrap any future episodes with this idea.

SO if you're super bored and want to watch along with this episode , grab you some popcorn and twizzlers and lets do this.

JAM ROOM TAPES
MY CROSS: BREAKING THE CYCLE WITH JELLY ROLL

Ingredients:

  • 3 large eggs

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/3 cup water

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup fruit jelly or jam of your choice

  • Powdered sugar for dusting

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 15x10x1-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper. Grease the parchment paper lightly and dust it with flour.

  2. Prepare Batter: In a large bowl, beat the eggs until thick and lemon-colored. Gradually add the granulated sugar, beating well. Mix in the water and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the egg mixture, blending just until smooth.

  3. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the cake springs back when lightly touched.

  4. Roll the Cake: While the cake is baking, lay out a clean kitchen towel and sprinkle it generously with powdered sugar. When the cake is done, immediately loosen the edges and turn it out onto the prepared towel. Carefully peel off the parchment paper. Starting from one of the short sides, roll the cake up with the towel (this helps shape it and prevents sticking). Let it cool completely in the towel.

  5. Add Filling: Once the cake has cooled, carefully unroll it. Spread your desired jelly or jam evenly over the cake, leaving a small border around the edges.

  6. Re-Roll and Serve: Re-roll the cake without the towel this time. Place it seam side down on a serving platter and dust the top with powdered sugar.

Enjoy your homemade jelly roll! 🍰

JAM ROOM TAPES
REMEMBER TO BREATHE.....WHILE ALSO REMEMBERING HOW TO PODCAST.

It was the perfect plan—or so they thought. Moose, the self-proclaimed expert in all things adventurous, and Selso, the ever-curious and somewhat cautious counterpart, had decided to take a holiday break in Mexico. After all, their podcast "Jam Room Tapes" could use a bit of fresh inspiration from their escapades.

As they arrived in Mexico, they were instantly enchanted by the vibrant culture, the tantalizing street food, and the lively atmosphere. Determined to make the most of their vacation, Moose had an idea.

"Selso, we need to do something epic," Moose declared with a mischievous grin. "Something we'll remember forever."

Selso, always up for a challenge, replied, "Alright, Moose. But let's not get into too much trouble, okay?"

Little did they know that trouble had a way of finding them.

One evening, after a spirited night of salsa dancing and too many margaritas, they stumbled upon a local festival. The duo, in their slightly tipsy state, decided to participate in a piñata-breaking contest. With blindfolds securely in place, Moose and Selso swung their bats with gusto, aiming for the colorful piñata.

Whack! Moose missed entirely and nearly knocked over a taco stand. Selso, on the other hand, managed to hit something—but it wasn't the piñata. Instead, he struck a nearby mariachi band's guitar, creating an ear-piercing cacophony.

"Whoops!" Selso exclaimed, removing his blindfold to survey the damage. "I hope they didn't need that guitar."

Moose, laughing uncontrollably, replied, "Selso, I think we're in a bit of a pickle here."

As the festival-goers looked on in amusement and bewilderment, Moose and Selso were promptly escorted out of the event. They found themselves sitting on a curb, still giggling at the night's events.

"You know what, Moose?" Selso said, trying to catch his breath. "This is definitely going to delay our return to the podcast."

Moose nodded in agreement, still grinning. "True, but at least we'll have one heck of a story to tell our listeners."

With a newfound sense of adventure and a couple of minor bruises, Moose and Selso continued their holiday in Mexico, determined to make the most of their unexpected escapades. And when they finally returned to "Jam Room Tapes," they regaled their audience with the hilarious tale of their misadventures—guitar-smashing, taco-spilling, and all.

JAM ROOM TAPES
CATCHING A CHRISMAS DUCK: A JAM ROOM TAPES CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

Every Christmas Eve, Selso, Moose, and Angela had a unique tradition: trying to catch a duck at the city park to spend Christmas with it. It all started one year when they jokingly decided to catch a duck for their holiday dinner, but instead, they ended up with a new feathered friend.
As Christmas Eve approached this year, the trio gathered their supplies: a large net, a loaf of bread, and a whole lot of determination. They set off to the city park, giggling and plotting their strategy.
"Alright, team," Selso said, adjusting his Santa hat. "Moose, you distract the ducks with the bread. Angela, you help me with the net. Let's get ourselves a Christmas duck!"
Moose nodded, scattering breadcrumbs around the pond. Ducks waddled over, quacking excitedly.
"Come and get it, duckies!" Moose called, waving the bread like a magician's wand.
Angela and Selso crouched behind a bush, ready with the net. They watched as one particularly plump duck strutted toward the crumbs, looking like the perfect Christmas guest.
"Okay, now!" Selso whispered, and they leaped out, net at the ready.
But the duck was no ordinary duck. It was a cunning and agile bird, dodging the net with remarkable speed. Selso and Angela stumbled over each other, while Moose laughed so hard he dropped the bread.
The duck quacked triumphantly and waddled away, leaving the friends in a heap.
"We almost had it!" Angela said, trying to catch her breath. "That duck is a ninja."
"Maybe we should just invite it politely," Moose suggested. "Ducks might respond better to manners."
Selso rolled his eyes but grinned. "Worth a shot. Let’s give it a try."
They approached the duck again, this time with Moose leading the way, a slice of bread in hand.
"Mr. Duck," Moose said, bowing slightly, "we cordially invite you to spend Christmas with us. We have breadcrumbs, a warm home, and plenty of holiday cheer."
To their surprise, the duck tilted its head, quacked softly, and waddled over to Moose. It seemed their polite invitation had worked!
The trio returned home with their new feathered friend, who happily pecked at crumbs and even joined in the Christmas carols. It wasn't just about catching a duck anymore; it was about the fun and laughter they shared every year.
From that day on, the Christmas duck became a beloved part of their holiday tradition, reminding them that sometimes, the best way to catch a friend is with kindness and a bit of holiday magic.

MOTOWNPHILLY MAGIC: A BOYS II MEN ANTHEM

Selso and Moose had always been huge fans of Boyz II Men, and when they decided to start a podcast, their first episode had to be about the iconic song "Motownphilly."
"Alright, Moose, we need to come up with some killer show notes for our first podcast episode," Selso said, tapping his pen against the table.
Moose nodded enthusiastically. "Definitely! We need to make it catchy and fun. Let's start with an introduction."
"Good idea," Selso agreed. He wrote on the whiteboard, “Welcome to ‘Jam Room Tapes’ with Selso and Moose! Today, we’re diving into the classic Boyz II Men hit, ‘Motownphilly.’”
"Nice! Now, let's add some history about the song," Moose suggested. "Maybe mention how it blends Motown and Philly soul?"
"And don't forget the new jack swing influence!" Selso added, scribbling furiously. “Released in 1991, this track combines Motown, Philly soul, and new jack swing to create a timeless anthem.”
Moose laughed. "Perfect! Now, what about some fun facts? Like how Michael Bivins from Bell Biv DeVoe discovered Boyz II Men?"
"Great idea! And we should mention the guest rap by Bivins in the song," Selso said, adding it to their notes. “Fun Fact: Michael Bivins not only discovered Boyz II Men, but also rapped in ‘Motownphilly’!”
"Awesome!" Moose exclaimed. "Let's add a section about the song's impact too. How it peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped launch their career."
"Absolutely," Selso agreed. “‘Motownphilly’ was a major hit, reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and catapulting Boyz II Men to stardom.”
Moose grinned. "And we can wrap it up with our personal thoughts on why we love the song."
"Right! We can each share a memory of when we first heard it," Selso said, jotting it down. “Selso and Moose’s Memories: Hear about our first experiences with ‘Motownphilly.’”
They stepped back to admire their work. The whiteboard was filled with vibrant notes and ideas, reflecting their excitement.
"We did it!" Moose said, high-fiving Selso. "This is going to be the best podcast ever!"
Selso smiled. "Absolutely! Now, let's hit record and share our love for ‘Motownphilly’ with the world!"
With their show notes ready, Selso and Moose were all set to bring their passion and humor to their podcast listeners, making their first episode a groovy success.

GOOFY GROOVES: A LOOK AT DISNEYS HIT I2I (EYE TO EYE)

Selso and Moose were two inseparable friends with one shared dream: to meet Powerline, the legendary pop star from "A Goofy Movie." With Powerline's concert coming to their city, they devised a daring plan to sneak backstage and meet their idol.

"Okay, Moose, here's the plan," Selso said, looking around to make sure no one overheard them. "We dress up as stagehands and blend in with the crew. No one will suspect a thing!"

Moose, always up for an adventure, nodded eagerly. "Sounds foolproof! Let's do it."

They managed to get their hands on some stagehand outfits and made their way to the concert venue. As they approached the backstage entrance, they saw a security guard blocking the way.

"Leave it to me," Selso whispered, adjusting his hat.

Selso sauntered up to the guard and put on his most confident smile. "Hey there! We're the new stagehands. Got a lot of work to do before the show starts!"

The guard eyed them suspiciously. "I haven't seen you two before. What's your names?"

"Uh, I'm Sam and this is Mike," Selso quickly improvised.

Moose gave a nervous wave, trying to look as professional as possible.

The guard looked at his clipboard and shrugged. "Alright, go on in. But no funny business!"

Selso and Moose grinned as they slipped past the guard and into the bustling backstage area. They weaved through the maze of equipment and crew members, their excitement building with every step.

"This is amazing!" Moose whispered. "We're really doing it!"

Suddenly, they heard a commotion and saw Powerline himself walking down the hallway, surrounded by his entourage. Selso and Moose exchanged wide-eyed looks and tried to think of a way to get closer.

"I've got an idea," Selso said, grabbing a nearby pushcart loaded with equipment. "Follow my lead."

They pushed the cart down the hall, weaving through the crowd until they were right behind Powerline. Just as they were about to make their move, the cart hit a bump, sending equipment flying everywhere.

"Hey, watch it!" one of Powerline's entourage shouted.

Selso and Moose scrambled to pick up the fallen items, trying to avoid drawing more attention to themselves.

"Sorry about that," Selso muttered, his face turning red.

Powerline turned around, noticing the commotion. "What's going on here?" he asked, his voice calm but authoritative.

Selso and Moose froze, realizing they were caught. But instead of getting angry, Powerline chuckled. "You guys are new, huh? Don't worry about it. Just make sure everything's ready for the show."

Relieved and starstruck, Selso and Moose nodded vigorously. "Yes, sir! Thank you!"

As Powerline walked away, Moose whispered to Selso, "We may not have gotten to meet him properly, but at least we didn't get kicked out!"

Selso grinned, feeling a sense of triumph. "Hey, we got closer to Powerline than we ever dreamed. I'd call that a success!"

They spent the rest of the evening backstage, helping out and enjoying the concert from a unique vantage point. It was a night they would never forget, and their friendship was stronger than ever.
