Arwa Shafi is a dynamic leader, ecosystem builder, and advocate for innovation in the MENA region. Aida Araissi founded the Bilateral Chamber of Commerce in 1997 as the Bilateral US-Arab Chamber of Commerce. Aida also serves several additional strategic roles and Board positions for organizations including The U.S. Committee for the World Petroleum Congress; the City of Houston Mayor’s International Affairs and Development Council for the Middle East & North Africa (MIADC-MENA); the Houston Community College Export Academy; and the U.S. District Export Council. She has received numerous International business advocacy awards, including twice being honored with the U.S. Commercial Services Award for Excellence in Export Promotion. Ms. Araissi speaks English, Arabic, and French along with other key regional dialects. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism with a minor in Political Science from the University of Houston.
In this episode, we will talk about her journey from Tunisia to the US as a pioneer for commerce and diplomacy as she builds bridges between the MENA region and the US. Growing up in Houston, eye witnessed the inauguration of the first consulates from the MENA region for Saudi Arabia and Egypt in Houston, TX. Back then her mother was involved with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's mission to send the first Arabian astronaut to space in 1985. Fast forward, 40 years, a few months ago she hosted the first Saudi Arabian women astronaut in Houston TX. I leave you with the story.

Dina Sherif is a trailblazing force at the intersection of academia, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy. Currently serving as a Senior Lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s MIT Sloan School of Management, Dina also takes on the vital role of Executive Director of the MIT Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship. She is Beyond this role, Dina founded the social enterprise, Ahead of the Curve.
Prior to the Legatum Center, Dina formerly held the endowed Willard Brown Chair for International Business at the American University in Cairo (AUC), where she was also the Founding Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship. Before this, Dina helped establish the John D. Gerhart Center for Philanthropy and Civic Engagement at AUC. Dina is also a Senior Advisor to Ashoka, providing support to their Global Venture and Fellowship Support arm.
Dina holds a Master of Public Administration and Management from the Harvard Kennedy School, an MA in Economic Development Studies from the American University in Cairo, and a BA in Political Science and International Relations from the American University in Cairo.

Dr. Naufel Alhassan is a researcher in institutional reform and social economic policy. He is a non-resident scholar at the #Middle #East #Institute. He is also the co-founder and CEO of #Euphrates #Consulting Group (ECG). Formerly, he served in many high executive and advisory positions in the #Iraqi #government, including #chief of #staff and senior #advisor for #Prime #Minister #Haider al-Abadi. He played a prominent role in designing and implementing the government's economic reform agenda as head of the #Economic Reform Unit (ERU) in the Prime Minister’s Office in partnership with the #World #Bank, #IMF, #EU, #UNDP, #USAID, and other #G7 missions in Iraq. He participated in vital governmental committees such as the #National #Security #Council, #Energy Committee, Reconstruction and Investment Committee, and the High Committee for Coordination between #Federal and #Local Governments. Dr. Alhassan also led the “Ta’heel” project for job creation and vocational training to facilitate weapons reduction for Iraqi society in partnership with the government of Japan and participated in writing the “Iraq Vision 2030 and Development Strategy” with a team of local and international experts. Between 2008 and 2014, Dr. Alhassan served as a #commercial counselor for the Iraqi Government in #Washington, DC. Before his service in the government, he worked in the semiconductor sector for a decade in #engineering and #management positions.

Fonz Morris is an experienced growth design leader and entrepreneur, Fonz has a proven track record of success. With over a decade of experience in product design, Fonz has worked with some of the biggest names in the tech industry, including Coursera, Xfinity, and Netflix, where he played a crucial role in converting millions of users. But Fonz isn't just a design whiz - he's also a mentor and public speaker, with speaking engagements at Columbia University, An Event Apart, and Afrotech. He holds a certification in Design Thinking from Stanford University and studied at Oxford University, Morehouse College, and The Wharton School.

Fonz has even contributed his knowledge to conferences like UX Fest, UXDX, Rethink, Made In the Future, and State of Black Design. He's on the Design Thinking board and the strategic planning committee at the Woodland School and has advised venture capital firms like First Round, Floodgate, and Signalfire.
