Mąą ruti wigųs

This is a little about my path into studying physics and gravity. For my PhD work, I measured gravity at the closest distance ever. So I try to explain a little of how we did that using something called a torsion balance.

Language camp

My Cooka had a language camp in the summer for several years apparently starting in 1993. I recall going to a couple although I was fairly young. My memory is pretty foggy, but it made a strong impression on me. One year some kids from Nebraska were there as well, and I remember they were pretty woowąk.

Nųwąkra hisge

I've only tried to run an official marathon once, and didn't finish. But after moving to Seattle, I started doing some trail running with my friend Todd. One summer we went on several fairly long runs. A couple more interesting ones included a combination run/canoe in the North Cascades and a 50km run with people training for a 100mile race.

Nįį homįk

Another short story about hiking in Colorado. I was hiking along with another thru-hiker, Hardcore, and we thought we found the perfect spot to camp. We got hit by hail and rain and even more rain. It left us with a little bit more work for the evening than we expected.

I found out Hardcore has a web journal with some photos and videos of that day as well, which you can find here: http://www.restlessadventurer.net/backpacking/long-distance/great-colorado-loop/journal/20110725/

Tee Hoinųxąwąra

Here's a story about the first time I got to fish and hike in one of my favorite places in Washington, the Hidden Lakes. As you can see from the photo, I had some success.

Wamąnųkera

After going to school in Madison, I realized it wasn't so bad to walk most places. One time, when I was back home in Tomah, I decided to walk to the library to work on some homework. On my way back home, two boys approached me asking for all my money...

Many of my Ho-Chunk relatives are Teegas. And when I was a kid, that was a scary thing. Here’s a short story about hanging out with my brothers and one of those scary times.

Go tell it on the Mountain

I’ve recently been reminiscing about a time hanging out with Cooka. We had all gone down to the Dells to see some photography exhibit and someone recognized him.

Another story from Colorado about the only time I've ridden a motorcycle. I had already put in a long day of hiking but still wanted to make it to Silverton.

Mąąxi hakisųc

In the summer in Colorado, you often have little thunderstorms come over the mountains. If you’re out hiking for a long time, you’re bound to get caught out in at least one storm. I once got lucky by just barely skirting around a couple.

I started out in Colorado with a friend, but he hurt his ankle from carrying too much. On the first day on my own, I learned that the pass was covered in snow from a hiker who got turned around...

Introduction

A little about me and my plans for this podcast. The goal is to speak only Ho-Chunk, but there may be some mistakes. Feel free to let me know. I’ll start by telling a story or two of my own. Stay tuned!
