To be caring towards others is an exponentially admirable quality. Our loved ones being able to depend on us when they are down or they need someone to be there for them only strengthens the bond and the love we share for each other. But what happens when we care so much for others, that we let our own health and well-being falter?
It is like when you are in an airplane, just before takeoff, and the flight attendants and pilots go over safety procedures in case of an emergency. They make sure to repeat, over and over again, that it is imperative that, in the event of an emergency, you take care of yourself first, and then your loved ones. That oxygen mask must go on you first, before you can help your child / others around you. The reasoning for this is we cannot help others if we ourselves are struggling. The same rings true when you are off the airplane just as much as when you are on it.
