It has been a minute since I have put out a new podcast.
Today, I'm speaking with my good friend Mr. Steven Nuefeld.
He just put out a phenomenal new solo record titled "Punk".
Steven is a part of a lot of really cool bands. He plays guitar and writes songs for Craig's Brother, he tours and plays guitar in The Cloverhearts, he's played in Brookhurst, This Legend with Ben Harper of Yellowcard fame.
I became aware of Steven's music in 2003 when I first heard one of his first bands Hey Mike. We were on the same record label briefly and that was Takeover Records.
Steven and I discuss a lot in this conversation, and it was so fun to do it.
We discuss songwriting, creativity and even AI.
On today's episode, I'm really excited to be chatting with Mr. Justin Linn. Justin is the guitarist and co-vocalist for the band Save Ferris.
Justin lives in San Diego. Save Ferris was formed in Los Angeles.
We talk about him joining the ska and pop punk/rock band as well as his history being a musician.
We talk about his family's musical legacy and how it transformed the 80's and beyond.
Justin also had a stint in the post hardcore outfit Bleed the Dream when they played the 2005 Warped Tour.
So, we talk all about what that was like.
It was a pleasure speaking with Justin. I've really enjoyed following him on social media, it seems as though there are a lot of cool things in the pipeline for Save Ferris.

It's been a minute since I've been able to get a podcast out into the world. Long story short my computer blew up a few weeks back and I had to send it away to get looked at. Unfortunately, all of the files for the podcast are on a corrupted drive, so I had to re-record everything from scratch.

Jared is the bassist/vocalist for @counterpunchrock. He's also currently playing bass for Death by Stereo. Other bands that he's played in include @elwaytheband, @chartattackmusic, and @unit91official.
Jared was a lot of fun to talk to. He and his band Counterpunch put out a phenomenal skate punk record last year. I listened to it a ton and it was one of my favorites for the year.We discuss all things punk rock. Getting into skate punk. Touring in bands, and what it's like to release music now as an adult with other obligations.
He just hit the road with another legendary band Death by Stereo, and we chat about that, as well.

Crimson is the fifth studio album by American rock band Alkaline Trio. Produced by Jerry Finn, it was released on May 24, 2005 by Vagrant.
2022 was jam packed with amazing musical releases. It was almost overwhelming. I'm grateful for music, and I'm grateful for the bands and artists who still find it so important and vital to keep making art and continue gracing us with new music.

On today's episode, I'm extremely excited to be speaking with Mr. Chris Dalley, drummer of Authority Zero.
This guy has been in several other legendary skate-punk bands over the years. He's played with Zero Down, Ten Foot Pole, Pulley, Death by Stereo, Voodoo Glow Skulls, The Implants, and the list goes on. All before joining the Mesa Arizona band Authority Zero. He's been with them for 8 years. They put out a fantastic record last year titled "Ollie Ollie Oxen Free".
We talk about his story, what led to him wanting to tour and play in bands for a living. How he got into punk rock. His first encounter with Cameron Webb. We talk about a lot in this episode.
I really appreciate Chris's time; he was a total sweetheart. I've always appreciated Chris' love of music on social media, it's infectious. I've really been enjoying his rundown of his favorite records in 2022, it's made me a bigger fan of some of the bands. We talk about some of them in this episode.

Billy is an incredible drummer that has played in some amazing bands in the Kansas City Music scene. He has played for Stick, The Creature Comforts, Blackpool Lights, Summer Breeze, and many more. He also played for Los Angeles band The Start. This guy is a legend!
Billy has been the Executive Director of the non-profit organization Steps of Faith Foundation since 2013.

We talk all about the organization, as well as the yearly fundraiser they throw in Kansas City. It is hosted by Mr. Ted Lasso himself Jason Sudeikis.
We talk about a whole bunch of cool stuff in this episode. I had always heard that Billy has a heart of gold, and I can confirm. He's a very easy-to-talk-to, down to earth guy and I want to thank him for the time.

I've been a fan of Craig's Brother for over 20 years now. I discovered them on the Tooth & Nail compilation "Songs from The Penalty Box".
Craig's Brother has a really fascinating career arc, and we talk all about it.
Ted opens up about what it's like to be ostracized by not only your label, but also by members of the Christian music scene in general.
We talk about the history of the band, and we discuss what it was like to make a new full length at this stage of their career as a band.
I learned a ton in this talk. I had so many things I wanted ask him and he was gracious in giving me really thoughtful answers. We talk about Ryan Key from Yellowcard joining the band and the cross-connection between the two bands. We talk about Lost at Sea. We talk about getting records shelved and sent back from stores because a song discusses masturbation. We talk about it all.

Craig's Brother is an American punk rock band. They have released three full-length recordings internationally, two on Tooth & Nail Records and one self-released.
Craig's Brother are currently on People of Punk Rock Records and they have a new full length being released on November 11th, 2022.
On today's episode, I'm speaking with Frank and Dan from Chicago's skate punk band Much the Same.
Frank is a returning guest. We had so much fun chatting last year, that we decided to do it again. This time, we brought guitarist Dan into the conversation.
We talk all about their 2003 ripper of an album "Quitters Never Win". We discuss the early days of the band, making the album, the creative process, and even beating cancer and what it's like to live life urgently.

Quitters Never Win is the first full-length studio album by Much the Same.
Much The Same is a punk rock band from the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Their style is based on the fast, melodic skate punk of the mid-to-late 1990s made popular by bands such as NOFX, Lagwagon, and No Use for a Name.
The band began in 1999 under the name Don't Look Down and changed to Much the Same in 2001 after a legal dispute with the now-defunct New Jersey band Don't Look Down. They released Quitters Never Win on A-F Records in 2003 and Survive in 2006.
On today's episode, I'm extremely excited to be speaking with Mr. Pat Kennedy, guitarist for new band No Pressure, as well as the guitarist and vocalist for the band Light Years.
Pat is from Kent Ohio, and we talk about what it was like growing up in the scene there.
We talk all about how No Pressure came to be. The vocalist for No Pressure is Parker Cannon, vocalist for The Story So Far. No Pressure has been putting out music since 2020. They released an ep in 2020, a single last year, and a killer LP just dropped a few weeks ago.
We talk about the formation of the band, the positive reception they've received so far, and what he thinks is missing from the scene these days.
This was a really fun conversation. Pat seems like a really humble dude. I really enjoyed chatting with him and I think everyone should check out No Pressure, as well as Light Years.

Cartel is from Conyers, Georgia which is a suburb of Atlanta.

I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. I've been a band for almost 20 years now and talking to Kevin felt like talking to a bud. A very down-to-earth thoughtful dude.

I'm extremely excited today because I'm chatting with a friend that I've known for a few years now. Mr. Jason Trabue, drummer of The Casket Lottery.
Jason is also the tour manager and production manager for the legendary band Garbage, and I actually caught up with him while he was on tour with Garbage. They just wrapped up their US tour opening for Tears for Fears.
I met Jason a few years ago while he was home during Covid. We started training together. He was introduced to me by our mutual friend RL.
We realized that we had a ton of mutual friends as we grew up in the KC music scene.
I'm a huge fan of The Casket Lottery and Jason did a killer job on their latest record Short Songs for End Times. He's an incredibly talented drummer.
Jason has run the full gamut of not only playing in bands but working with bands that we all know and love. Motion City Soundtrack, Thrice, Jimmy Eat World, and the list goes on and on.
I had a blast catching up with Jason, he's such a solid dude. It's always a pleasure hanging out.
On today's episode, I'm extremely excited to be speaking with Ted Felicetti, front man of the pop-rock/pop-punk band Don't Panic.
Don't Panic are based out of Pennsylvania. They have two full lengths out currently. Their first release "See Through It All" was released in November 2020, and they just released their second album "Dark Horse" in September of last year. I would say that's a uniquely fast advance of music, and we talk about that.
We also talk about our days out on the Warped Tour. We had a similar experience meeting Kevin Lyman which was so fun to talk about.
We also talk about Star Wars, creativity, working hard to create our own opportunities and the gratification of getting some opportunities along the way.

I've been listening to We Were Sharks for a few years now. They write incredibly well crafted, fun, and energetic pop punk tunes. Randy has a killer voice, and a distinct voice.
He's also in a cover band called The Young Bucs and we discuss what that's like.
We also talk about the creative process, writing tunes with Paul from Silverstein, navigating Covid, and continuing to make art into adulthood.

On today's episode, I do a deep dive on Dashboard Confessional's second official full-length album "The Place You Have Come to Fear the Most".
The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most is the second studio album recorded by the American emo band Dashboard Confessional, released on March 20, 2001, through Vagrant Records.
Dashboard Confessional started as an acoustic side project for vocalist/guitarist Chris Carrabba while he was fronting Further Seems Forever. The project's first album The Swiss Army Romance was released in early 2000 through local independent label Fiddler Records. Using his connections within the punk scene, Carrabba was able to perform on a few tours. Though the audience wasn't used to acoustic instrumentation, Carrabba won the crowds over. Eventually demand for the album was exceeding the label's supply, which resulted in owner Amy Fleisher licensing the record to Drive-Thru Records. In October, Carrabba announced his departure from Further Seems Forever.

In this episode, I have my first guest! My buddy Adam and I chat about the second album "Where You Want to Be" from Emo virtuosos Taking Back Sunday.
Where You Want to Be is the second studio album by American rock band Taking Back Sunday. While touring to promote Tell All Your Friends (2002), guitarist John Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper left the group and were replaced by Fred Mascherino and Matt Rubano, respectively. After a co-headlining tour with Saves the Day in fall 2003, the band began working on Where You Want to Be.
Dismissive of several early songs, they wanted to "grow musically with this [new album]." In March 2004 recording of Where You Want to Be began, with Lou Giordano as producer. The band recorded at Mission Sound in Brooklyn, New York for two weeks before moving to Water Music in Hoboken, New Jersey, finishing recording by April.
Where You Want to Be has received mixed-to-positive reviews, selling 163,000 copies in its first week. The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart, remaining there for an additional 19 weeks. It topped the Independent Albums chart and remained on that chart for 50 weeks. "A Decade Under the Influence" reached number 16 on the Alternative Songs chart and the UK Top 75 chart. Where You Want to Be is Victory's highest-charting album; in July 2005 it was certified gold in the U.S. for sales of 500,000 copies, and sales have since exceeded 700,000.

He's worked with bands like Dashboard Confessional, Anberlin, Taking Back Sunday, The Maine, Thrice, Acceptance, and the list goes on and on.
I absolutely loved this conversation; Joe is a very passionate and insightful guy. We discuss many topics including why we should expect things to suck before we get better, fitness, creativity, capturing moments, leveling up in life and in our crafts, and why the best hidden trick to gaining opportunities might just be being a good person with a good moral character.
