Episode #16 - From Lithuania to investment banking, with Andrius Zalys

Follow HWBT Podcast: https://linktr.ee/hardworkbeatstalentpodcast

.....

On this week’s episode, we had the pleasure of being joined by our good friend Andrius.

Andrius works at a major investment bank, on the securities financing trading desk (yep we didn’t know much about this to begin with either!). Andrius helpfully walks us through the realities of working on a trading floor bank and explains in detail what his day-to-day involves.

Andrius’ parents moved his family from Lithuania to the UK when he was 11. Despite speaking limited English when starting at secondary school in the UK, Andrius overcame this (as well as every other challenge a typical adolescent faces) to complete his GCSEs and A levels, and secure a place at a Russel group university (all in under 7 years, not bad..).

Despite his clear career successes, Andrius’ humility and admiration for his influential family members shone through during this episode, and it really was a pleasure to record.

We hope that you enjoy!

Episode #14 - Becoming an MMA pro athlete, the BAMMA World Title fight, Bellator, life as a martial arts coach and social work, with Mr Bag and Tag

Follow HWBT Podcast: https://linktr.ee/hardworkbeatstalentpodcast

.....

On this week’s episode, we were joined by Nathan Jones, also known as Mr Bag and Tag, ahead of his highly anticipated fight this Saturday 19 November against Joe Cummins.

Nathan is a professional athlete hailing from West London having had over 24 pro fights, known best for competing as an MMA fighter. He talked us through a challenging time when he was in his early twenties and the physical assault that led him to taking up martial arts.

Most notably Nathan fought for a BAMMA WORLD TITLE live on Dave and in front of a sold out Wembley Arena crowd; plus fighting twice at one of the highest levels in BELLATOR. He is also passionate about martial arts outside of the ring, where he spends time coaching other individuals to achieve their full potential or find the confidence they have always been seeking.

Outside of the sporting world, Nathan studied for a degree in History and Politics and also completed a masters in Social Care. He started his career as a social and youth worker for many years and went on to help and influence countless young people along their own life journey’s.

Alex and I were incredibly excited to have this conversation with Nathan and it did not disappoint. Nathan took us on a real journey, inspired both of us and we have no doubt will inspire those that listen.

We hope you enjoy this episode and if you have ever wanted to, find the courage to walk into a martial arts gym after listening to this episode.

Love and blessings as always.

Episode #12 - How to balance a successful legal career and your own business, with Kenzo Onumonu
On this week's episode we are pleased to be joined by the very talented Kenzo. Kenzo’s unique journey has involved working at one of the leading sports law firms in the world, the English Football Association and Deliveroo, among others! Kenzo is currently a Legal Director at a start-up in the food sector and, in his downtime, he runs the very exciting Ed-tech start-up that he founded, Forty. Among the many gems that Kenzo shares during our conversation, we found it great to see somebody that is so successful express themselves with such humility and humour. Despite his easy-going nature, when speaking to Kenzo, it is clear that his success has been no accident and that he has a very bright future ahead of him. We loved that Kenzo’s emphasis on the fact that “nobody dislikes a humble learner” and the power of infectious enthusiasm when starting out anywhere. Kenzo also shed a light on the realities of succeeding in a demanding career, while managing a side-hustle, and how doing a little bit each day can lead to large consequences over the long-term. In addition to his commercial successes, we really enjoyed the fact that Kenzo’s passion for philosophy came through in this interview, with him commenting that the principle basis for his brand Forty is that: “You cannot really understand the world, until you understand a perspective other than your own”. With that in mind, be sure to tune in to hear Kenzo’s unique perspective and find out more from him and Forty below: Linktree: https://linktr.ee/followforty Enjoy! Episode #11 - How to break into investigative journalism, with Alexandra Heal

On this week's episode, Alexandra provides us with an insight into realities of working in the world of modern journalism. Alex also describes her pathway into the industry, including how to be creative about obtaining work experience, through blogging and being persistent.

Despite her humility, we want to use this opportunity shine a spotlight on the many achievements that Alex has enjoyed in her young career. Most notably, Alex’s work on domestic abuse by police officers resulted in her winning the very prestigious Private Eye Paul Foot Award 2020 and led to lawyers submitting a nationwide "super-complaint" with police regulators. We are extremely proud to have Alex in our Inner Circle and even more proud to call her our friend.

Alex’s passion and commitment to journalism, and the social good that it plays, come across clearly.

If you, or anyone that you know has an interest in media or journalism, this is not an episode to be missed!
