Three Lives by Gertrude Stein
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/855553 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Three Lives Author: Gertrude Stein Narrator: Martha H. Weller Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 8 hours 11 minutes Release date: January 14, 2025 Genres: Historical Publisher's Summary: Three Lives was written in 1905/06 and published in 1909 at the author’s expense. The work consists of three independent novellas: The Good Anna, Melanctha, and The Gentle Lena. Each of the titular characters lives in Bridgepoint, a fictional town based on Baltimore. The Good Anna explores the life of strong-willed Anna Federner, a woman of “solid lower middle-class south German stock.” The story follows the relationships Anna develops with the women in the households in which she works as a servant, and explores in particular the theme of bonding between women. Melanctha is an unconventional novella in which Stein explores what it is to seek meaning and fulfillment amidst the complexities and challenges of life. Melanctha, the daughter of a black father and a mixed-race mother, is unsatisfied with her life in segregated Bridgepoint. She launches into a passionate search for knowledge and power, within complicated cross-currents of race, sex and gender. The Gentle Lena recounts the life of Lena, who (like Anna in the first story) is an immigrant from Germany, now living in Bridgepoint. Lena is also a servant, but ends up marrying Herman Kreder, at the behest of the elders in their lives. In contrast to Anna Federner, who is willful and determined, Lena’s life is marked by a consistent passivity, which Stein explores throughout the narrative. The three lives presented by Stein are compelling, and reflect the author’s philosophical and literary values. Her use of repetition is particularly pronounced in both Melanctha and The Good Lena.

Recollections of Lincoln 1847-1865 by Ward Hill Lamon
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/834692 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Recollections of Lincoln 1847-1865 Author: Ward Hill Lamon Narrator: The Scythe, Geoffrey Giuliano Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 8 hours 37 minutes Release date: October 27, 2024 Genres: History & Culture Publisher's Summary: Recollections of Abraham Lincoln, 1847-1865 by Ward Hill Lamon offers a personal and candid view of Lincoln through the eyes of one of his closest friends and bodyguards. Lamon, a lawyer and former law partner of Lincoln, had a unique vantage point, accompanying him through critical periods of his life, including his presidency. Known for his loyalty and blunt honesty, Lamon sheds light on Lincoln’s personality, quirks, and struggles, portraying him not just as a revered leader but as a complex, deeply human figure. The book reveals intimate moments, including Lincoln’s moods, personal habits, and bouts of melancholy, along with anecdotes about his humor and kindness. Lamon also provides insights into Lincoln's relationships with colleagues, his evolving stance on slavery, and the weight of responsibility he carried during the Civil War. Unlike more formal biographies, these recollections offer an unpolished, raw perspective that sometimes challenges the idealized image of Lincoln. Lamon’s account is significant because it comes from someone within Lincoln’s inner circle, presenting a version of the president based on friendship and firsthand experience. Though not without controversy—some criticized Lamon for being too critical or unfiltered—the book remains a valuable contribution to understanding Lincoln as a man, not just a mythic figure. Narrated by Emmy-nominated actor Geoffrey Giuliano and The Sycthe.

Chesterton Narrator: Sarah Bacaller Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 0 hours 9 minutes Release date: October 15, 2024 Genres: Lessons in Philosophy Publisher's Summary: “The fascination of children lies in this: that with each of them all things are remade, and the universe is put again upon its trial.” With G. K. C.’s characteristic wit, he explores in this essay the virtues of baby-worship, as adults are invited to see the world anew through the eyes of children. Furthermore, argues G. K. C., an appreciation of our youngest humans “forces us actually to remodel our conduct in accordance with this revolutionary theory of the marvellousness of all things.” This essay is one in a series titled ‘The Defendant’, first published as a collection in 1901, after the individual essays were published in The Speaker. Here, a selection of these essays has been reissued by Voices of Today for a new generation.

The Decision Intelligence Handbook: Practical Steps for Evidence-Based Decisions in a Complex World by L. Y. Pratt, N.E. Malcolm
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/804219 to listen full audiobooks. Title: The Decision Intelligence Handbook: Practical Steps for Evidence-Based Decisions in a Complex World Author: L. Y. Pratt, N.E. Malcolm Narrator: Daniel Henning Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 10 hours 2 minutes Release date: September 24, 2024 Genres: Business & Career Development Publisher's Summary: Decision intelligence (DI) has been widely named as a top technology trend for several years, and Gartner reports that more than a third of large organizations are adopting it. Some even say that DI is the next step in the evolution of AI. Many software vendors offer DI solutions today, as they help organizations implement their evidence-based or data-driven decision strategies. But until now, there has been little practical guidance for organizations to formalize decision making and integrate their decisions with data. With this book, authors L. Y. Pratt and N. E. Malcolm fill this gap. They present a step-by-step method for integrating technology into decisions that bridge from actions to desired outcomes, with a focus on systems that act in an advisory, human-in-the-loop capacity to decision makers. This handbook addresses three widespread data-driven decision-making problems: ● How can decision makers use data and technology to ensure desired outcomes? ● How can technology teams communicate effectively with decision makers to maximize the return on their data and technology investments? ● How can organizational decision makers assess and improve their decisions over time?

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/794486 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Yonder Come Day: Exploring the Collective Witness of the Formerly Enslaved Author: Jasmine L. Holmes Narrator: Lauren Angel Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 6 hours 6 minutes Release date: September 3, 2024 Genres: Christianity Publisher's Summary: As our nation has experienced a renewal of reckoning with the reality of slavery in our past and the continued struggle for equality and liberation in the present, many previously untold stories have come to light. But not every story. Some histories remain shrouded, waiting for someone to uncover them and make them known. Incredibly, some of them have been hiding in plain sight for decades. Yonder Come Day brings these hidden histories into the light in an unconventional yet powerful way. Drawing from the interviews of more than 3,000 formerly enslaved people from across the South collected in the 1930s, Jasmine L. Holmes creates a compelling 'collective memoir' unlike anything you've heard. The story follows Little One, a composite character who guides the modern-day listener through the experience of slavery. As she grows from Little Bit to Lonely One to Lovely One to Grandmama, she exposes both harsh truths and an irrepressible spirit, helping us better understand the love, resilience, and faithfulness necessary to survive the evils of our nation's original sin. Teachers, historians, and anyone doing the work of reconciliation will find that Yonder Come Day is the vital resource they didn't even know they were missing.

All Things Are Full of Gods: The Mysteries of Mind and Life by David Bentley Hart
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/812670 to listen full audiobooks. Title: All Things Are Full of Gods: The Mysteries of Mind and Life Author: David Bentley Hart Narrator: Rachael Beresford Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 22 hours 11 minutes Release date: August 27, 2024 Genres: Lessons in Philosophy Publisher's Summary: In a blossoming garden located far outside all worlds, a group of aging Greek gods have gathered to discuss the nature of existence, the mystery of mind, and whether there is a transcendent God from whom all things come. Turning to Eros, Psyche asks, 'Do you see this flower, my love?' So begins David Bentley Hart's exploration of the mystery of consciousness. He systematically subjects the mechanical view of nature that has prevailed in Western culture for four centuries to dialectical interrogation. He argues through the gods' exchanges that the foundation of all reality is spiritual or mental rather than material. The structures of mind, organic life, and even language attest to an infinite act of intelligence in all things that we may as well call God. Engaging contemporary debates on the philosophy of mind, free will, revolutions in physics and biology, the history of science, computational models of mind, artificial intelligence, information theory, linguistics, cultural disenchantment, and the metaphysics of nature, Hart calls listeners back to an enchanted world in which nature is the residence of mysterious and vital intelligences. He suggests that there is a very special wisdom to be gained when we, in Psyche's words, 'devote more time to the contemplation of living things and less to the fabrication of machines.'

Title: The Secret Life of the Universe: An Astrobiologist's Search for the Origins and Frontiers of Life Author: Nathalie A. Cabrol Narrator: Cassandra Campbell Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 9 hours 18 minutes Release date: August 15, 2024 Genres: Astronomy & Physics Publisher's Summary: ‘A highly readable, entertaining and mind-expanding read from a formidable scientist’ iNews ‘A highly informative survey of the current state of astrobiology’ Literary Review Over the last few decades, space exploration has revolutionised our understanding of our place in the cosmos. We now know that there are many habitable environments within our solar system. Yet a profound question remains: are we alone in the universe? Nathalie A. Cabrol, leading astrobiologist and director of the Carl Sagan Center at the SETI Institute, takes us to the frontiers of the search for life. This book’s odyssey begins by searching for how life began on Earth in order to understand what’s necessary for life to exist elsewhere. What role did our moon play? And could life on Mars, or another world, have seeded life on Earth? Cabrol continues this dazzling interplanetary tour, illuminating the likeliest places for life in our neighbourhood: Venus, Mars, the icy moons of Jupiter and Saturn, and Pluto. Finally, we seek life beyond our solar system, looking at the recent revolution in the night sky: the realisation that there are millions of exoplanets within our galaxy that could support life. The Secret Life of the Universe is both a comprehensive and authoritative guide to the latest discoveries and an awe-inspiring exploration of what this means for us as humans on Earth today. It’s an exhilarating journey, perfect for anyone who has ever looked up at the stars and wondered what might be out there.
