The Going to IEU Podcast is back. This time we are joined by guest Clint Goodrich, IE University’s Executive Director of Sports and Well-Being, professor on leadership through sports and head of men’s basketball. To Clint, the Sports and Well-Being Center is a space to engage in athletic and well-being activities, regardless of skill level or experience.

IE University students have the chance to participate in a range of sports, including recreational sports, performance sports and other activities. Students can choose anything from hiking to kayaking, sailing to boxing or weekly yoga sessions—all activities are available for free!

For Clint, participating in sports is all about building one another up, setting goals and working hard to achieve them. Everyone is a beginner at some point and working to improve is a transformational process that can benefit everyone. Ultimately, sports are a way to thrive personally and as a community.

In episode 14 of the “Going to IEU” podcast, your host, Nick Besso, chats to Dyanna Rivera, a Bachelor in Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence student, about her experiences at IE University and her thoughts on the present and future of artificial intelligence (AI).

Dyanna’s path to computer science has been an unconventional one. In this episode of the “Going to IEU” podcast, host Ida Nydelius asks Abdul Salam, a 22-year-old from Pakistan and former IEU Student Government president, 50 questions that tell all about his experience as a student at IE University.

Abdul is pursuing the Dual Degree in Business Administration and Data & Business Analytics. With an entrepreneurial spirit and mind, Abdul plans to launch his own finance startup aimed at making banking more centralized to its customers—an effort to spark change in a field that he is passionate about.

In the latest “Going to IEU” podcast, we’re joined by Juan Barrio Martin, Director of Sports and Well-being at IE University. As we delve into campus sports and athletic activities with Juan, he tells us how a new department was created specifically because our student community told him they wanted more sporting opportunities.

Juan’s daily duties revolve around the logistics of sports and physical activities at both competitive and fun levels—at IE University there’s something for everyone. We compete against other universities, and alongside clubs, in a wide variety of sports—everything from rugby to table tennis. And Juan tells us how proud our community is of our own Amanda Montes, a Bachelor in Business Administration student who reached the semi-finals of the National Tennis Championship.

With recreational-level sports facilities in Segovia and cutting-edge facilities up to competitive standards in Madrid, IE University’s commitment to these opportunities means that, in the unlikely event you can’t find a team for your preferred sport, you’ll get help setting one up from scratch.

And our commitment to innovation is even built into our sporting opportunities, with an app allowing students to book facilities ahead of time and facial recognition software giving them access to the court, pitch, pool or arena! And of course, Juan confirms that there’s no need for sports and study to be exclusive, with showers and changing rooms on hand so you can go straight to your classroom from the basketball court or yoga class.

Comprometidos con la educación y con el deporte

En el último episodio de Going to IEU, invitamos a Juan Barrio, director del área de Deportes y Bienestar de IE University, para que nos hable de la oferta de actividades deportivas del campus. Juan explica que la universidad ha creado este nuevo departamento a petición de los estudiantes, que demandaban más alternativas deportivas.

Juan se dedica a la organización de las actividades deportivas de IE University a nivel competitivo y recreativo (en IE hay opciones para todo el mundo). Nuestros clubes compiten contra otras universidades en una gran variedad de deportes que van desde el rugby al tenis de mesa, y Juan está muy orgulloso de logros como el de Amanda Montes, una estudiante del Grado en Administración de Empresas que ha llegado hasta las semifinales del Campeonato Nacional de Tenis.
