Goals DO Come True with Doug Bennett
CHOOSE to Be Your Own Champion To Achieve Your Goals with Dorice Horenstein
Join Doug Bennett as he sits down with Dorice Horenstein, speaker, author, and champion of personal growth to discuss what it truly means to “choose to be your own champion.” Dorice shares her inspiring journey from Israel to the world stage, revealing how intention, resilience, setting goals that you actually believe you can reach, the art of using smaller daily goals that lead to your achieving the big ones and the power of choice can transform your life. Listen in to discover your own champion and to discover the best human that you can be, the happy human that you can be. It's not about what you have. It's about what you do with what you have. KEY TAKEAWAYS It's important for people to know what you want. You choose what you want and where to go, then make it clear what you need. Taking small steps is what gets you to the big goals. Take the first step. Pay attention to what is right in front of you. The universe has a way of bringing you the opportunities that will work for you. Make your goals big but not so big you don´t believe in it. Regularly review and tweak your goals. Your goals must align with who you are and your values. Exercise your choice. Choose what you think, choose to be kind and be true to yourself. Rule your thoughts, don´t let them rule you. There are lots of little things you can do to better manage your thoughts. Dorice shares some deceptively simple but powerful ways to do just that. What you need most will arrive just when you need it—there are no coincidences, only perfect timing. At times you will feel low. Bad things happen to everyone. The question is how long you will let yourself stay low. Marry your goals with intention. Understand why you want to achieve that goal. BEST MOMENTS "Think of what your strengths are and make those your goal as you look into the future." "Don't look at the sacrifices that you made as a negative thing, because if it's true sacrifice, it got you closer to where you wanted to be." "Experiences may repeat themselves, but time doesn't. So, use that time as an opportunity to achieve your own goal." "Don't let your thoughts rule you. You feed your thoughts, which then feed your emotions, and then later on, it comes out as an action." "Always lean into the possibilities and opportunities that are ahead, even when bad things happen." Present and Powerful: Goal Setting for Real-Life Achievement with Bennie White
Have you ever wondered how to turn your deepest struggles into your greatest strengths? Join Doug Bennett as he sits down with Bennie White, a coach, boxer, podcaster and public speaker who transformed a life of adversity, addiction, and street fights into a story of resilience and inspiration. Bennie shares how boxing became his turning point, the mindset shifts that fuelled his transformation, and why being present is his ultimate goal. This episode is packed with practical strategies to help you set meaningful goals, manage overwhelm, and build a resilient mindset that enables you to achieve even the biggest goals. Bennie's no-BS insights and techniques will move you forward no matter how busy you are or how big your goals are. KEY TAKEAWAYS It doesn´t matter how old you are, you can pursue and achieve your goals. Transformation is possible, no matter your starting point. You may think you don´t have time for transformation. In reality, you actually do. Boxing was pivotal for Benny. It provided discipline, purpose, and a healthy outlet for his emotions. Being present is Benny’s biggest goal. True success and fulfilment comes when he focuses on the moment, rather than just chasing future achievements. Learning to let go of things you can’t control and preserving your energy is a part of becoming more resilient. Staying upset about something only wastes your energy. Coaching and community are powerful tools for growth. You learn so much from others. Supporting others and sharing what you know is a massive part of building yourself up. BEST MOMENTS “My biggest goal is to be present ... when I'm present, then I can be 100% in everything that I do.” “I would suggest and encourage people to make their goal in life, to be present.” “I cannot stay upset for more than a few minutes, an hour maximum.” “If you can't control it, then okay you can't - just let it go.” “Everything that has happened in my life, I've transformed into power.” ABOUT THE GUEST I am Bennie White https://linktr.ee/benniewhite LinkedIn Profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bennie-white-178551253 Socials - @iambenniewhite VALUABLE RESOURCES Website: http://dougbennett.co.uk Email: doug@dougbennett.co.uk LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/financialdoug Twitter: https://twitter.com/FinancialDoug Facebook Wealth Tribe: https://join.dougbennett.co.uk Download Your "Ten-Step Guide To Financial Freedom" Here: https://bit.ly/Struggle-Success BOOKS: Goals Do Come True is now live and available to buy on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3phcy6Z Think Simple, Win Big is now live and available to buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Think-Simple-Win-Big-Business Enjoy, and come back for the latest podcast each Wednesday. Goals DO Come True with Doug Bennett
Breaking Records & Building Habits: Fitness and Goal Setting with Byron Munford
Join Doug Bennett as he sits down with Bryon, the performance coach. Bryon Munford is the founder of Lifestyle Revolution and for 17 years he has been working in fitness and helping busy professionals optimise their health and performance for work in as little as three hours a week. Doug shares how he uses goals to help people build good lifestyle habits. Don’t wait for a health scare to make your wellbeing your top priority. Instead, use Byron’s practical tips to take charge of your health now—so you can keep life’s worries in perspective and stay ahead of serious illness. KEY TAKEAWAYS Goals need to be related to things that are genuinely important to you. Having a strong "why" will keep you motivated. Set both short-term (quick wins) and long-term goals. Writing down goals and visualizing success are both powerful habits. Believe, See, Achieve. Byron’s coaching is based on six pillars — mindset, stress management, sleep, nutrition, hydration, exercise/movement. Exercise is not enough; you need balance in all of these areas. Sleep is critical for optimal performance. Less than six hours of sleep can impair cognitive function as much as getting drunk does. You have to move every day. If your brain is exhausted and your body is not, you will not sleep well. Stress can’t be eliminated, but it can be managed. You can stop stress levels building up over the course of days or weeks. Proper hydration, including electrolytes, is essential for performance and focus. Tailor what you eat to fit in with your activity levels and goals. The quality of what you eat is more important than calorie counting. Use whatever time you have available for exercise, even if it’s just 10 minutes. Move every day. Plan workouts first in your schedule to ensure consistency. BEST MOMENTS "I help busy professionals optimise their health and performance for work in as little as three hours a week. If your business is doing well, but your health is not, you need to come see me." "A lot of people don´t get out of their own way." “Time for yourself is badly under-rated.” “Some people work better with higher carbs. Some people work better with higher fats.” "You could see problems, or you could see possibilities. You could focus on the barrier - what's in the way or focus on the solution." "The more times you write it down, the more your brain believes it's going to happen. Because you see it." "Move like your life depends on it, because it does." Goals DO Come True with Doug Bennett
Why Holding Goals Too Tightly Kills the Magic (And What to Do Instead) with Gregory Benedikt
Join Doug Bennett as he sits down with coach Gregory Russell Benedikt for a conversation about dreams versus goals. Gregory shares his journey from a 100-day rejection challenge, including asking strangers to jump in their pools, to landing a TEDx talk and meeting his girlfriend through bold action. This episode explores Gregory's perspective on holding goals loosely, his experience with goal apathy and his coaching approach where he becomes a "dream Sherpa," accompanying clients on their bucket list adventures. KEY TAKEAWAYS • A simple knock on a stranger's door asking to use their pool went viral and kick started an entire journey that led to Gregory's TEDx talk. • After years of hitting targets, Gregory discovered that achieving goals brought brief celebration but rarely the lasting fulfilment he expected. • The retreat Gregory has wanted to host for three years suddenly became possible when a community member offered her 40-acre Colorado ranch three days after he committed. • Gregory met his girlfriend by walking up to her in a crowded restaurant and handing her his name on a receipt after feeling an instant connection. • The dream sherpa concept emerged from Gregory wanting to do more than traditional coaching sessions. • Reading "Rejection Proof" twice sparked Gregory's 100-day challenge, proving that sometimes you have 10 seconds to act before putting the book back on the shelf. • Day 66 brought a complete breakdown where Gregory quit for a week, questioning why he was wasting time on ridiculous stranger interactions. BEST MOMENTS "It's moments like that, Doug, that just give me so much hope and excitement and awe and wonder." "We need to get started because if we're willing to take messy, imperfect action, you will learn the lessons you needed to learn." "Everything you need to know in order to achieve the goal, make the dream, become a reality. Everything you need to learn is learned through doing the thing. It's not learned before." "We've all got more time than we actually use. How, you know, check your phone. How long have you been on Facebook or, you know, screen time this week?” "I have a philosophy of yes. You know, if somebody asks me a question, it doesn't matter. Doug, would you like to, the answer's yes at that point." The Psychology of Retirement: Why Money Isn't Enough with Gregg Lunceford
Join Doug for a conversation with Greg Lunceford, a wealth advisor from Chicago who's changing retirement planning. Greg shares his research on the psychological challenges of leaving work, drawing from his PhD in management and client experiences during the 2008 financial crisis. He reveals why financial advisors rarely address the emotional costs of retirement that go beyond money. From lawyers wanting to start rock bands to executives who can't make retirement decisions, this episode uncovers why even financially secure people struggle to retire. Greg discusses identity, purpose, and the "third age" concept that reframes retirement. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Work provides four non-financial benefits: achievement and recognition, socialisation and community, identity and purpose, and daily structure. These all disappear in retirement and must be replaced. • People without retirement plans have 40% higher risk of cognitive failure and depression, showing the need for psychological preparation alongside financial planning. • Traditional retirement models are outdated, previous generations had shorter lifespans, pension safety nets and different expectations that no longer apply. • Many professionals never chose their careers intentionally, they followed parental or social expectations, leading to delayed dreams emerging in retirement conversations. • Financial readiness doesn't equal emotional readiness, even wealthy clients with secure finances struggle with retirement decisions due to psychological barriers and identity concerns. • The "third age" concept reframes retirement. Modern longevity means transitioning from middle age to a new life stage, rather than directly to old age. • Goal setting requires self-awareness (knowing your likes, dislikes, and limitations) and adaptability (willingness to take risks and think outside conventions). BEST MOMENTS "Throughout my whole career, every move that I made was because someone came and gave guidance.” "We are no longer the people that we used to be... We will probably live a decade longer than those before us." "Did anyone ever talk to you about how to exit work? No... this may be the first independent decision a lot of people make about their career and it is overwhelming." "People who don't have a plan, people who don't have structure, people who don't have things that create psychological success have a 40% greater chance of going into things like cognitive failure, depression." Doug interviews Anya Cheng, who went from unemployed during the 2008 recession to building Taelor Style, an AI-powered men's sustainable fashion company. Anya shares how she ambushed hiring managers outside buildings, called newspaper publishers from phone booths and leveraged her reporter background to land her first job. Anya reveals her framework for persistence, explains how she identified the massive waste problem in fashion and discusses her mission to help busy men look great while solving sustainability issues. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Anya applied her journalism background to ambush hiring managers and call publishers, turning her existing expertise into a job search advantage • After months of networking, she interviewed salon owners and advertisers to create a proposal that landed her first contractor role • Working at Meta and eBay, Anya realised she wanted to look professional without owning or maintaining extensive wardrobes, this is how she identified the fashion rental market gap • Anya built partnerships around customer life moments, targeting dating sites, fitness centres and companies where people need to look their best during transitions. • By genuinely helping another founder and referring clients without expecting anything back, Anya gained access to other investors • Anya combines AI efficiency with human expertise. Her model uses artificial intelligence for initial styling, while human stylists provide final quality control and personal consultation. BEST MOMENTS "Anyone who has a goal shouldn't be worried about how they look. They should focus on their goal when they go on dates." "So many times opportunities there when you are not looking for, many times the curiosity will leave something surprisingly useful." "In half an hour. We have, we got a million dollar investment." Wake Up at 4AM or Stay Behind Forever: The Brutal Truth About Success with Kasim Aslam
Doug welcomes Kasim, a seven figure entrepreneur who's mastered the art of turning goals into reality. From writing himself 100 million dollar checks to building the world's #1 Google Ads agency without ever running a campaign himself, Kasim reveals the "magic" behind goal setting and the science of habit formation. Discover why motivation is dangerous, how to weaponise your mornings, and the counterintuitive truth about delegation that could compress 30 years of work into 10. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Kasim has been obsessively goal setting since discovering Tony Robbins at 17. Writing himself checks for $10 million, then $100 million has created something beyond what science can explain in manifesting what he wants. • Through his systematic approach, Kasim cultivates one habit for 10 weeks before moving to the next, allowing him to build five cornerstone habits per year. • After habituating his 4AM routine of sauna, cold plunge, workout and meditation, Kasim operates on complete autopilot. When people ask "how?" he explains he's literally not even conscious during the process. • Despite building the world's #1 Google Ads agency with 200 clients and 100M under management, Kasim has never personally run a campaign end-to-end - Everything was accomplished through strategic delegation. • For first time habit formers, Kasim recommends starting with drinking more water instead of hitting the gym. The goal isn't maximum value but learning the skill of habit formation itself. • According to Kasim's analysis, 60% of most people's calendars contain superfluous tasks. These could be done by others, probably better, freeing up time for more useful tasks. • Waking up two hours before most people gives Kasim an advantage, those morning hours provide 4-6 times more value than equivalent time later in the day. • Through his agency Pareto Talent, Kasim aims to place 1,000 international EAs, then scale to 10,000, creating meaningful work opportunities while delivering exceptional value to Western businesses. BEST MOMENTS "There's magic in it. You know, there's something beyond what science can explain in goal setting. There really is, you could call it energetic or divine or God.” "You don't rise to the level of your capability. You fall to the level of your systems." "I wake up two hours earlier than you. You can and will never catch up to me the whole day and for the rest of your life." "Here's the fun part. I've never run a Google Ads campaign end-to-end in my life. And Doug, I wouldn't know how to." "Nobody wakes up at four o'clock in the morning and sits down and eats Cheetos and watches TV." Borrowing Dopamine: How Multi-Area Goal Setting Creates Motivation with Gifty Enright
Doug interviews Gifty Enright, a keynote speaker, coach and author. Gifty shares her approach to goal setting, starting small and building up gradually. She explains why setting goals across multiple life areas allows you to borrow motivation when one area struggles. The conversation covers breaking down large goals into manageable steps, the role of male allies in closing gender gaps and tips for delegation and boundary setting. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Set goals across different life areas using the wheel of life approach then when one area struggles, you can borrow dopamine and motivation from areas where you're succeeding. • Begin with small steps (like 500-gram weights) to avoid intimidation and build momentum, make the first step so small you can't resist doing it. • Male allies create change. Performance bias means men's voices carry more weight, when men support women's issues, the needle moves 90% compared to just 30% when women advocate alone. • When facing boring admin work, commit to doing just 5 instead of 10 tasks to make it manageable and maintain progress. • Use pen and paper for initial goal creation to engage more senses, then transfer to apps for tracking and reminders as the physical act increases commitment. • Review goals quarterly to assess progress, make tweaks, and ensure they still align with your current priorities and values. • Once you start executing a plan, momentum propels you forward, halfway through, you'll think "I might as well take it all the way." BEST MOMENTS "Sometimes one area might be hard. Let's say I'm struggling with my business goals... But if my half a kilo weight way, if I'm crushing it there... That dopamine I'm getting there is actually transferable." "We need men because of such a thing called performance bias, when we get men to talk about women's issues, it lands quicker and we hit critical mass quicker." "If you are at the point of overwhelm and you self doubt you don't have the confidence to ask for help because you think that people would think you're failing." "Every man out there with a partner who is a woman, just ask them, please, how can you support them? And in that way we can move the needle and we will make society a better place." Goals DO Come True with Doug Bennett
Why intention Is More Effective Than Traditional Goal Setting with Paul Davis
Doug interviews Paul Davis, a business growth consultant and author of "Genius Unlocked." Paul shares his methodology for finding life purpose, challenging popular concepts like ‘start with why’ and passion based approaches. He explains his four-element framework and advocates using intentions instead of goals and shares stories about achieving targets through rewards like biplane wing walks. The conversation covers why conventional advice about purpose may be flawed and how to align with your true mission in life. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Use intentions instead of goals, intentions create stronger commitment and act as a contract with yourself and the universe beyond the usual goal setting. • Your true purpose is set from birth and never changes, though it develops and evolves throughout your lifetime. • Passions are temporary and the word means to suffer. Focus on what provides lasting fulfilment through your core drivers. • Universe operates a three-stage warning system: Gentle nudges (feathers), then setbacks (bricks), finally major disruptions (trucks) guide you toward your purpose. • Four elements define your genius, inspiration (divine guidance), quest (life mission), drivers (fulfilment sources), and role (natural archetype) work together. • Avoid planning the "how" and instead set clear intentions but let inspiration and opportunities guide your path rather than forcing detailed plans. • People make decisions based on personal benefit, not company purpose or brand mission statements which is why the ‘start with why’ philosophy is so flawed. • Track both current and completed intentions. Use systems like Trello to monitor progress and maintain motivation through visible achievement records. BEST MOMENTS "Every single human being will only do something when they perceive that there's more benefits than drawbacks to themselves." "Your quest is not enjoyable. Believe me, your quest is not enjoyable, but that's your mission to achieve." "The feather are those gentle nudges that you get from the unconscious and everybody gets them... That's your unconscious.” ABOUT THE GUEST Paul Davis, a renowned business growth consultant and intuitive personal advisor helping entrepreneurs build a better business, a better life and a better world. https://davisbusinessconsultants.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/pauldavisdublin/ https://davisbusinessconsultants.com/book-shop/ VALUABLE RESOURCES Website: http://dougbennett.co.uk/ Email: doug@dougbennett.co.uk LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/financialdoug/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/FinancialDoug Facebook Wealth Tribe: https://join.dougbennett.co.uk/ Download Your "Ten-Step Guide To Financial Freedom" Here: https://bit.ly/Struggle-Success BOOKS: Goals Do Come True is now live and available to buy on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3phcy6Z Think Simple, Win Big is now live and available to buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Think-Simple-Win-Big-Business/ Enjoy, and come back for the latest podcast each Wednesday. Goals DO Come True with Doug Bennett
Why Achieving Big Goals Requires Grieving Your Old Self Caroline Antonia of Rebellious Business
Caroline Antonia from Rebellious Business joins Doug in this episode. Caroline talks about the painful reality of personal growth, comparing goal achievement to the grieving process. From her entrepreneurial journey that started with selling CDs at age 9 to building a thriving business network, Caroline shares why she believes goals require emotional sacrifice and identity shifts. Discover her unique perspective on personality tests, the "woo woo era" of goal setting, and why she thinks achieving big goals means saying goodbye to parts of yourself. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Grief is part of goal achievement and setting meaningful goals often requires letting go of your current identity and grieving the person you're leaving behind, which can be emotionally painful but necessary. • Subconscious goals get achieved more than conscious ones. Goals that feel meaningful and aligned with your deeper purpose are more likely to manifest than surface-level desires you write down without commitment. • While personality tests and similar can provide insight into who you are, they can create deterministic thinking that boxes you in rather than empowering you to grow. • Start with achievable milestones. When your big goal feels too distant to visualise, focus on the furthest point you can clearly see and make that your interim target to maintain momentum. • Instead of forcing yourself into a narrow niche, focus on clearly communicating your unique value proposition, which will naturally attract the right audience. • Emotional connection is crucial for goal achievement. Writing goals as if already achieved isn't enough; you must genuinely feel the emotions associated with having accomplished them to engage your subconscious mind. • Meaningful goals will make you question your identity and push you beyond what feels safe or familiar, creating necessary pressure for growth. BEST MOMENTS "I find that so far a lot of things that I work towards or that I really set my sights on, they require grief. I always have to grief an element of myself, which has been holding myself back." "What have I been doing this whole time? Like, why have I been playing so small? And I don't feel like that's fair because I think we're doing pretty well." "The pressure is an indication to shed. I haven't used that analogy for years... but the pressure is something that forces them to grow." "I'd embrace the pain, embrace the sadness of what was and what you could have done sooner. You know, that for me I find really painful." Creating Your Own Luck and Building Wealth with Dan Leonardi
Doug talks with Dan Leonardi, who went from Pepsi truck driver to corporate executive after quitting college. The career strategist and founder of Leonardi Personal Development worked at companies like Pepsi, Kellogg's, and ConAgra. He built a 35-unit condo complex to pay for his sons' college education and shares his approach to creating your own luck. At 68, Dan has released his book "Be the CEO of Your Life" and teaches students how to bridge theory with practical application. He explains the 70-20-10 rule that shows why relationships and experiences matter more than education and reveals how inverting traditional leadership structures can turn around struggling teams. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Create your own luck, success comes from taking action to create opportunities. Dan built a 35-unit condo complex to turn his sons' college expenses into profit. • The 70-20-10 Rule is something Dan follows and advocates for, only 10% of career success comes from education, 20% from relationships, and 70% from experiences. Most people graduate thinking they're done, but they're only at the 10-yard line with 90 yards of life still to play. • Life is three stages, ages 20-30 are for building knowledge through relationships and experiences. 30-40 is when you create financial wealth. 40+ is the compounding phase where everything comes together. • Dan shares how you can transform teams by putting customers and associates first, with leaders serving to remove obstacles rather than commanding from above. • Surround yourself with people who give energy and help others succeed, not those who drain energy and create obstacles. Your advisors should be positive and supportive. • Dan believes that whilst Academic education provides a foundation, success comes from applying knowledge to real situations. Listen to experienced professionals and learn from every interaction. • Successful people want to share their knowledge with younger generations. Don't be intimidated to ask questions, one conversation can change your trajectory and costs nothing. • Be the CEO of your own life! Take ownership of your path while treating parents and mentors as your board of directors. You make decisions, but surround yourself with wise advisors. BEST MOMENTS "If someone says to me, 'Hey, you're the luckiest guy in the world,' I would take it perhaps as an insult, because if you're just lucky, that implies I did nothing to create that luck." "90% of my learning came from two things. It was relationships and experiences." "Don't look at anybody else. Don't care about what everybody else is doing. You are the CEO of life of your life." "The three worst letters in the dictionary, when they're combined, it's bad. And it's EGO." Why Only 8% Set Goals & How to Join the Elite Who Actually Achieve Them with Jonno White
Join Doug as he speaks with Australian leadership expert Jonno White, author of "Step Up or Step Out,". Discover why only 8% of people actually write down their goals, learn the zone of genius approach to goal setting and uncover the secret to creating workplace cultures so compelling that employees would move cities to work there. With honesty about his own goal setting struggles and his experiences from building a 10k copy bestselling book, Jonno shares advice that turn ordinary teams into high-performing powerhouses. KEY TAKEAWAYS Goals transform everything instantly, just like adding goalposts and teams turns a casual park kickabout into an intense, exciting game, adding clear goals and structure transforms any activity from mundane to meaningful and engaging. Zone of genius goal setting uses assessments like CliftonStrengths and Working Genius to understand your natural abilities, then set stretch goals specifically aligned with what energises you rather than what drains you. Only 8% of people write goals down! Despite overwhelming evidence of effectiveness, the vast majority fail to harness this simple practice, often due to lack of belief in the process or themselves. Start with easy wins to build momentum. Begin goal setting with achievable but challenging targets that provide dopamine hits and build subconscious belief in the process before attempting bigger, more audacious goals. "What's most important right now?" creates team focus. Patrick Lencioni's single question helps teams establish one rallying cry priority that eliminates politics and dysfunction, similar to how emergency situations naturally align everyone's efforts. Personal, Professional, Financial (PPF) conversations unlock potential, an annual one-on-one sessions where leaders learn about employees' personal goals, professional aspirations, and financial targets enable next-level support and engagement. Difficult conversations require frameworks and the "Step Up or Step Out" methodology provides a structured approach to handling challenging team members while preserving relationships and maintaining performance standards. Workplace culture should be magnetic. The ultimate business goal is creating an environment so compelling that top talent would relocate their entire family just to be part of that businesses mission and culture. BEST MOMENTS "All we changed was really created goals, and yet we turned a kick around in the park into an enjoyable, exciting game."  "I really specialise in helping leaders to build the type of workplace culture that employees would move cities to work at."  "Every time you do something for your child as they grow older, you're actually stealing the self-esteem from them that they could have had from doing that themselves  "You can be trolling through the dump, if you do it in the right way... you can turn that into a meaningful, unforgettable experience."  "There's only 8% of the global population that write their goals down or actually have goals, which is a crazy small amount."  ABOUT THE GUEST  consultclarity.org https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonno-white-983486136/ https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/leadership-conversations-with-jonno-white-podcast/id1593825558 VALUABLE RESOURCES Website: http://dougbennett.co.uk/ Email: doug@dougbennett.co.uk LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/financialdoug/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/FinancialDoug Facebook Wealth Tribe: https://join.dougbennett.co.uk/ Download Your "Ten-Step Guide To Financial Freedom" Here: https://bit.ly/Struggle-Success BOOKS: Goals Do Come True is now live and available to buy on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3phcy6Z Think Simple, Win Big is now live and available to buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Think-Simple-Win-Big-Business/ Enjoy, and come back for the latest podcast each Wednesday. Managing Chronic Illness & Pain with Goal Setting with Athena Brownson
Athena Brownson, a former professional skier who competed for 14 years before becoming a top Denver realtor speaks to Doug in this episode. Athena talks about the challenges she faced after multiple surgeries and becoming chronically ill from lyme disease. She shares why the goal-setting techniques that made her an elite athlete became her lifeline through chronic illness and her approach in real estate. Doug and Athena also explore morning routines, Athena’s "greatness tracker" system, and how she transforms nervous energy into excitement. Athena and Doug give actionable strategies for approaching goals, especially when facing adversity.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Tough coaching taught Athena consequences and accountability. Her coaches ensured there would be consequences if she wasn't following instructions or skiing to her fullest potential, teaching her resilience and showing up. Lyme disease took Athena from athletic peak to chronic pain, she was diagnosed eight and a half years ago, going from top athlete to barely getting out of bed with 10 out of 10 pain. Athena writes goals in present tense daily as part of her morning routine. She learned to write "I am healing, I am healthy, I am full of energy" even when those things weren't true, creating neural pathways in her brain. Athena created a greatness tracker system for weekly accountability, she prints out weekly action items including face to face meetings, phone calls, notes, open houses, events, plus health goals like gym visits and clean eating. Visualisation has always helped Athena achieve her goals. If she could visualise landing a trick she'd never tried in her head, she knew she could land it in real life; now she visualises sales and happy clients. Real estate requires the same mentality Athena had as an athlete, she believes you need "a little bit of psychosis" to succeed in real estate, the same type athletes have. Goal setting prevents Athena from going on disability despite chronic illnesses, most people in her position go on bed rest and disability, but if she did that she'd be so depressed it would be game over for he. Athena views manifestation as consistent goal-writing by hand, writing goals by hand tells your brain what's important and helps recognise opportunities, making manifestation practical. BEST MOMENTS "I've pretty much been setting goals since I came out of the womb, even if it was unintentional."  "Half of the feat of reaching a goal is the simple act of showing up."  "If I could visualise, if I could close my eyes, visualise myself landing a trick that I had never tried before, but I landed it in my head, I knew that I could land it in real life."  "I reckon we could get rid of a certain amount of mental illness if we could get more people to be goal oriented."  "When you're in the midst of adversity, it's actually the most important time to create goals and to create those actionable steps, because that is what is going to keep your mind engaged in a positive manner."  ABOUT THE GUEST Athena Brownson: Former Pro Skier Turned Top Denver Realtor, Defying Limits in Life and Real Estate. Why Your Mind is Like a Puppy (And How to Train It for Success) with Nikola Howard
Doug has an inspiring conversation with Life Alchemist Nikola Howard, about turning personal struggles into business success. After dealing with her mother's death, chronic health conditions including polycystic ovaries and endometriosis, and years of business uncertainty, Nikola has created her mission: helping women with chronic conditions build sustainable businesses without burnout. From her award-winning HOPE protocol for nutrition to her new FLOW formula for business, Nikola shares her advice for goal setting, energy management and the power of being specific.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Nikola shifted from being the UK's leading low-carb expert to serving women with chronic conditions in business after realising her most loyal clients shared these two characteristics and needed specialised support. Nikola sold her property to go all-in on her mission after years of managing her mother's illness and death. The HOPE protocol for nutrition, PATH for mindset work, and FLOW formula for sustainable business practices tailored to chronic conditions are three interconnected systems Nikola has created. Rejecting the 9-to-5 model, Nikola schedules high-energy tasks after 2 PM when she's naturally most productive. She works as a night owl and designs her business around energy patterns. Nikola has won 26 awards with her lifestyle approach, focusing on permanent change rather than temporary diets, emphasising adult choice and eliminating shame-based language around food decisions. She resisted goal setting for years, believing goals would trap her, Nikola only embraced them when she realised they're actually requests to the universe, not restrictions. Her business model prioritises collaboration over competition, incorporating feminine energies of cooperation and win-win outcomes rather than traditional masculine hustle culture that leads to burnout. Nikola's currently beta-testing her signature program and discovering it's more comprehensive than initially planned, requiring six months rather than nine weeks to properly serve her clients. BEST MOMENTS "The mind is like a puppy and it will run around all over the place. And our job as the thing in charge of our mind's puppy is picking up the puppy and bringing it back to where the focus is." "When you ask the universe what you want, it will give it to you. Might take a while. Sometimes it delivers sideways, but it will always manifest itself." "You can never be too specific. Would be my one goal setting tip." "We always, always overestimate what we are able to do in a year and seriously underestimate what we can achieve in five." "Never be scared of having a goal. Because when you have it, it can happen. But if you don't have it, you are just gonna wander along in your life on autopilot and things will happen to you rather than be caused by you."
