Generations To Hunt
The Bucking Truth: Surviving the Winter and Shed Hunting Tips

Welcome back to another episode of the Generations of Hunt podcast, where we dive into the bucking truth of hunting and outdoor adventures. I'm joined by my co-host, Matt, and we kick things off by discussing the recent weather changes and how it's the perfect time to start hiking for sheds. We share some personal anecdotes about the brutal cold and the excitement of finding sheds.

We then transition into a discussion about deer holding their antlers longer due to a second rut and the impact of a mild winter. Matt shares his buddy's theory on this, and we debate the scientific evidence behind it. We also touch on the importance of starting early to find sheds before the state land gets crowded with people and their dogs.

Next, we delve into the recent Team USA ice fishing tournament held in Michigan, where the US team disappointingly placed sixth. We joke about the challenges of releasing fish from the ice and the potential of making ice fishing an Olympic sport.

The conversation takes an interesting turn as we discuss survival shows. We ponder whether we would participate in one and share our thoughts on the mental and physical challenges involved. We also talk about the strategies and hardships faced by contestants on shows like "Alone" and "Survivor."

We then shift gears to discuss the National Deer Association's findings on the distance between shed antlers. According to their research, 56% of match sets are found within 10 yards of each other, which is a fascinating insight for shed hunters.

Our discussion moves to the impact of weather on deer movement, referencing a new MSU Deer Lab study. We debate the effectiveness of hunting apps and the importance of actual deer sightings over predictive models.

We also touch on the controversy surrounding new solar panel projects in Michigan, particularly in Gaylord. We discuss the role of organizations like BHA in pausing these projects and the potential impact on public lands.

Finally, we dive into the topic of antler point restrictions (APRs) and their effectiveness in encouraging hunters to shoot more does. We reference another MSU study that suggests APRs do not significantly impact doe harvest rates.

Generations To Hunt
Barefoot Dave

Welcome back to another episode of the Generations of Hunt podcast! Today, I'm joined by my good friend , Dave, who helped me out with the "Stay Out September" series. We're here to catch up on how his hunting season went and to share some of the lessons learned along the way.

Dave kicked off the season with high hopes, having done extensive winter, spring, and summer scouting. His wife rescheduled a trip to Disney, giving him a full week in early October to hunt. Dave set up a solo hunt camp in Southern Michigan, sleeping in a minivan and braving the cold. Despite the challenging conditions, it was a rewarding experience that taught him a lot about hunting new terrain.

Dave attended the Bowhunter Chronicles camp for the first time, which was a mix of camaraderie and serious hunting. He faced new terrain challenges but enjoyed the experience of hunting with a group. One memorable moment was his creative tree selection for a hunt, which involved climbing a spindly tree to get to a massive oak.

Dave had two main spots for the rut season. The first spot was disrupted by another hunter who unknowingly used the same trail as the target buck. Despite this, Dave learned valuable information about the buck's behavior, such as the early opening of scrape lines.

The second spot was a Metro Detroit public land property where Dave had patterned a buck over two years. Despite setting up a camera and hunting strategically, he faced challenges from other hunters and even had his camera tampered with. However, he still managed to gather crucial data for future hunts.

Early Season: Dave confirmed that his scouting was accurate, even if the timing was slightly off.

Rut Season: He learned that bucks can open scrape lines earlier than expected and that human presence can significantly alter deer behavior.

Public Land Hunting: Encounters with other hunters can be both respectful and disruptive, highlighting the importance of adaptability.

Dave's season was a mix of highs and lows, but it was filled with valuable lessons and experiences. From solo camping in a minivan to navigating the complexities of public land hunting, Dave's journey offers insights for hunters of all levels.

Generations To Hunt
The Bucking truth

Generations of Hunt podcast, we kick off a new sub-series with a special guest, Matt Michalek, affectionately known as Matt.com. Matt is a tech-savvy hunter from Michigan who brings a wealth of knowledge to our discussion, especially when it comes to data and industry trends.

We dive into several hot topics, starting with the recent developments in Michigan's deer management and regulations. Matt sheds light on the new Deer Management Council and the upcoming recommendations that could impact the 2024 hunting season. We also discuss the controversial solar farm projects and their implications for local wildlife.

One of the key points we explore is the impact of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) and Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) on the deer population. Matt provides insights into the data, revealing that while EHD had a significant impact, it wasn't as devastating as some feared. We also touch on the ongoing debate about baiting and its legality, with Matt sharing his personal experiences and observations.

We delve into the statistics of deer harvests, particularly during the muzzleloader season, and the surprising trend of hunters using their combo tags for antlerless deer. This leads to a broader discussion about the need for better population management and the role hunters play in conservation.

The episode also covers the proposed changes in hunting license prices, including the controversial increase for senior hunters and the adjustments for non-resident tags. We debate the potential impact of these changes on hunter participation and conservation efforts.

Throughout the episode, we emphasize the importance of understanding and adapting to new regulations, as well as the need for hunters to take an active role in managing the deer population. Matt's data-driven approach provides a fresh perspective on these issues, making this episode a must-listen for anyone interested in the future of hunting in Michigan.

Generations To Hunt
From Gear Upgrades to Big Buck Triumph: Matt Sewcyck

In this episode of Generations of Hunt, I had the pleasure of chatting with Matt, one of our seasoned big buck hunters. We kicked things off discussing the temptations of Black Friday sales, especially when it comes to upgrading hunting gear. Matt shared his recent gear changes, including his switch to the Maverick saddle and the Ranger 22 pack, which have significantly improved his hunting experience.

We then dove into Matt's hunting season, which started off slow in October due to concerns about CWD and EHD affecting the deer population. Matt spent the early part of the season exploring public lands and attending the Bowhunter Chronicle camp, where he finally started seeing some deer activity. By late October, he began getting promising pictures of bucks on his family's property, which reignited his hunting fervor.

Matt recounted the thrilling hunt on November 2nd, where he successfully shot a massive buck after a brief but intense encounter. He detailed the meticulous process of tracking and recovering the deer, which ended with a short and successful track job. The buck, a mainframe eight with a kicker, turned out to be his biggest to date, and Matt shared his excitement about getting it mounted.

We also touched on the broader aspects of hunting, including the challenges of finding the perfect backpack and the importance of having the right gear. Matt and I discussed the potential changes in hunting regulations, such as the idea of a one-buck rule or an earn-a-buck system, and reminisced about the nostalgia of traditional muzzleloader seasons.

Balancing Life: Hunting, Work, and Family

Welcome back to the Generations of Hunt Podcast! This is your host, Joe. I want to start by apologizing for the unexpected hiatus. After returning from deer camp, I received the unfortunate news of a close relative's passing, which threw everything into disarray. On top of that, work has been incredibly hectic, with seven-day workweeks and ten-hour days. Any free time I had was spent hunting, leaving no room for the podcast. I know these are just excuses, but I wanted to explain the situation to everyone who's been wondering why I suddenly stopped.

Moving forward, I plan to release episodes biweekly until the end of the year. After that, I might revamp the schedule and direction of the podcast. Balancing work, parenting, school, and hunting has been challenging, but I am committed to continuing the podcast.

Matt is currently in Missouri hunting and has also been busy with trips to the Dakotas for pheasant hunting. As for me, I'm gearing up for the opening gun day here in Michigan and looking forward to spending time at deer camp with family and friends. It's always a great experience to unwind and learn from the older generation.

This season has been eventful. I had a great time at Adam from Bowhunter Chronicles' camp, hunting with Nate from Michigan Wild and the BDS Outdoors crew. Deer camp is always a blast, and I highly recommend starting one, even if it's just with a few buddies on public land.

I've had some issues with trespassers on my private land, which has been frustrating. Despite these challenges, I've managed to have a successful season so far. I shot a doe a few weeks ago, and it was a clean and quick kill. I also shot a buck, but I'll save the details for a future episode.

Work has been demanding, but I promise to get the podcast back

Elk Hunting Adventures: Lessons from the Mountains with Matt Sewcyck

hello, everyone! Welcome back to another episode of the Generations That Hunt podcast. It's October, and you know what that means—whitetail season is open in Michigan and most other states. It's a busy time for all of us hunters, and I've been swamped with house renovations and school, but I'm excited to get out there soon.

In this episode, I had the pleasure of chatting with my buddy Matt , who is joining our team to help with filming for our YouTube channel. Matt recently went on an elk hunt in September, and we discussed his experiences and the challenges he faced.

Matt shared his background, growing up hunting on his family's 60-acre property in southwest Michigan. He didn't have a traditional deer camp experience but got into public land hunting in his mid-20s. His first big game hunt on public land was an over-the-counter elk hunt in Colorado, which he described as a life-changing experience.

We talked about the importance of having a good support system during hunting trips and how crucial it is to stay positive, even when things don't go as planned. Matt's recent elk hunt was tough—they didn't see a single elk—but he emphasized the value of the experience and the camaraderie with his hunting buddies.

We also touched on the logistics of planning out-of-state hunts, the importance of applying for points in various states, and the dream of hunting in Alaska someday. Matt's optimism and passion for hunting are truly inspiring, and I'm excited to see the content he'll create for our YouTube channel.

The Final Countdown: Last-Minute Prep for Opening Day

we dive into the final week of our "Stay Out September" series, focusing on the importance of getting your house in order before the hunting season kicks off. With opening day just a week away, we discuss the need to balance our passion for hunting with our responsibilities at home, especially for those of us with families.

We emphasize the significance of completing household chores and projects, often referred to as the "honey-do list," to ensure that our spouses and families are happy and supportive of our time spent in the woods. Joe shares his experiences as a married man with kids, while I reflect on my situation as a married individual without children. We both agree that being intentional with our time and responsibilities can lead to a more enjoyable hunting season.

Throughout the episode, we touch on strategies for planning ahead, such as using weather apps to anticipate hunting conditions and organizing our schedules to accommodate family needs. We also highlight the importance of communication with our partners, ensuring they feel involved and appreciated.

As we wrap up the series, we reflect on what we've learned, the value of preparation, and the importance of community among hunters. We encourage our listeners to take the time to get organized, enjoy the upcoming hunting season, and remember that the relationships we nurture at home are just as important as the deer we pursue in the woods. Good luck to everyone on opening day!

Broadhead Breakdown: The Science Behind VPAs with Alex and Jeff

I had the pleasure of welcoming back Alex and Jeff from VPA, a company known for their high-quality broadheads. With the hunting season underway, we dove into the perennial debate about which broadheads to choose, especially since we've been using VPA's products and have been thoroughly impressed.

We kicked off the conversation by discussing the busy nature of their operations, even during what many consider the off-season. Jeff and Alex shared insights into the materials used in their broadheads, specifically the differences between 1045 carbon tool steel and the more premium S7 steel. They explained how each material affects edge retention and sharpening, emphasizing that while the 1045 is easier to sharpen, the S7 holds an edge longer, making it a favorite among their customers.

Dave posed some great questions about the durability and performance of broadheads, particularly in relation to different game animals. Jeff highlighted that their broadheads are designed to withstand tough conditions, even when shot through bone, and that ethical hunting is a core value for VPA. They also discussed the importance of testing and feedback in their product development process, ensuring that every broadhead meets high standards before hitting the market.

We explored the trend of broadhead weights and sizes, noting that while lighter and faster options are popular, there's a growing appreciation for heavier setups that provide better penetration. Jeff and Alex shared their commitment to creating durable, ethical products that hunters can rely on for multiple seasons, rather than disposable options that require frequent replacement.

The episode wrapped up with a discussion on the innovative Omega broadhead, which features replaceable bleeders designed for durability and re-sharpening. Jeff and Alex's passion for their products and dedication to customer feedback was evident throughout our conversation, making it clear that VPA is committed to providing hunters with the best possible tools for ethical hunting.

Final Gear Prep for Stay Out September week 7

Welcome back to Generations of Hunt! In this episode, Dave and I dive into the final gear prep for the hunting season. We've covered getting into shape, shooting practice, and running through your gear in previous weeks. Now, it's time to focus on the minutiae of your setup, especially your clothing and ensuring everything is quiet and efficient.

  • Clothing Prep: Lay out all your hunting clothes, from base layers to outerwear, and check for any gaps or needed replacements. Consider the weight changes and ensure everything fits well.

  • Socks: Don't underestimate the importance of good socks. Merino wool socks are highly recommended for their moisture-wicking properties.

  • Totes for Organization: Using totes to organize your gear by season and type can make your prep more efficient.

  • Silencing Gear: We discussed the importance of reducing noise from your gear. Using stealth strips, hockey tape, and paracord can help silence metal parts and prevent unnatural sounds in the woods.

  • Testing for Noise: Record yourself walking with your gear to identify and address any noise issues.

  • Lighted Nocks: Check your lighted nocks for cracks and ensure the batteries are fresh. Practice with lighted nocks to ensure accuracy.

  • Battery Management: Replace batteries in your rangefinder, sight lights, and other electronic gear before the season starts.

  • Self-Filming Tips: If you plan to film your hunts, ensure all your equipment is charged and ready. Practice setting up your camera arm and other gear to avoid frustration in the field.

  • Pack Essentials: Evaluate what you actually need to bring into the woods. Consider a minimalist approach to reduce weight and increase mobility.

  • Kill Kit: Decide whether to carry your kill kit with you or leave it in the car for retrieval after a successful hunt.

  • Early Antlerless Season: Good luck to everyone heading out for the early antlerless season. It's a great opportunity to help manage the deer herd and practice your tracking skills.

Thank you for tuning in, and we hope these tips help you have a successful and enjoyable hunting season. Happy hunting!

Generations To Hunt
Navigating Hunting Scams and Early Season Excitement

Welcome back to another episode of the Generations of Hunt Podcast! This week, Matt and I are recording from the garage, so bear with us if the audio isn't perfect.

We dive into some exciting new gear updates.Matt recently got the Heat Boost Huntworth bibs and jacket for my birthday, but with the current 80-degree weather, I haven't had a chance to test them out. Matt shares his thoughts on the new VPA Broadheads, specifically the three-blade fixed head, and we discuss the benefits of different broadhead setups.

Matt has made a significant change in his hunting setup, moving from a stand to a saddle. He talks about the advantages of the Latitude sticks, which are much lighter than his previous gear, and how this change will impact his hunting strategy this season.

I share a wild story about almost getting scammed while trying to buy a new Hoyt bow. After a series of suspicious interactions and a fake motorcycle accident, I finally managed to get the bow from a legitimate seller. This experience has made me more cautious about online transactions, and I emphasize the importance of using secure payment methods like PayPal goods and services.

With September here, our excitement for deer season is ramping up. We discuss the early opening of various states' hunting seasons and the unusual early crop turn this year. This could make for an interesting mid-season, especially with the potential EHG scare due to the wet summer.

Matt shares his struggles with getting a successful food plot going this year. Despite multiple attempts and different seed brands, heavy rains have thwarted his efforts. However, he's optimistic about his latest planting and hopes it will attract deer come October.

We also touch on our out-of-state hunting plans. Matt will be heading to South Dakota for a pheasant hunt and later to Missouri for deer hunting. Looking ahead, we have trips planned to Kansas and Iowa, which promise better chances at larger bucks compared to Michigan.

As we wrap up, we reflect on the upcoming season and our strategies. Whether it's focusing on private land or exploring new public land spots, we're both eager to see what this hunting season has in store.

Stay out September Week 6

we dive into the second week of our "Stay Out September" series. As we gear up for the youth hunt and special hunts for veterans and disabled individuals, we wish everyone the best of luck. This week, our focus is on broadheads and tuning your bow for optimal performance.

We start by emphasizing the importance of tuning your bow to ensure proper arrow flight, regardless of whether you prefer fixed blades or mechanical broadheads. I share my personal experiences with different broadheads, including the Toughhead 3-blade, Annihilators, and Sever Robusto, and stress that the key is to make sure your setup is dialed in.

We discuss the importance of checking your bow for any issues, such as serving separations or D-loop problems, and the need to address these immediately. We also highlight the significance of practicing with your broadheads at various distances to ensure they fly true, as they can behave differently from field points.

For those using fixed blades, we delve into the nuances of sharpening techniques and the tools required, such as sandpaper, diamond plates, and sharpening guides. We also touch on the importance of having replacement blades and O-rings for mechanical broadheads to ensure you're always prepared.

As we wrap up, we remind everyone to get their bows tuned and ready now, as archery shops are getting busier with the season approaching. We also discuss the value of warranties on gear and how they can make a significant difference.

Stay Out September: Physical and Gear Prep Tips

we dive into our "Stay Out September" series, focusing on preparing for the upcoming hunting season without actually heading into the woods. With the weather still too hot and Labor Day weekend approaching, we emphasize the importance of using this time wisely to get ready for the season.

We kick off by discussing the importance of physical training. Whether it's running, walking with a weighted pack, or just getting into better shape, being physically prepared is crucial. We share personal experiences about the challenges of carrying heavy packs and the importance of starting slow to avoid injuries.

Next, we talk about gear preparation. From breaking in new boots to setting up your stand or saddle, it's essential to ensure everything is in working order. We stress the importance of practicing with your gear in less-than-ideal conditions to simulate real-world scenarios.

We also touch on the importance of shooting practice. Whether it's shooting from elevated positions, practicing quick draws, or holding at full draw for extended periods, being proficient with your bow is key. We share tips on how to simulate the adrenaline rush of a real hunt by incorporating physical exercises into your shooting practice.

Finally, we remind our listeners to continually evaluate and refine their setups. Whether it's adjusting your pack to reduce weight or practicing in different types of trees, the goal is to be as prepared as possible when the season starts.

Jordan Hoover: Embracing the Essence of Hunting and Stewardship

We kicked off the episode by catching up with Jordan, who has been incredibly busy with various media engagements, including radio shows, newspapers, magazines, and podcasts. He’s been actively involved in addressing deer management issues in Michigan, particularly focusing on the policies affecting the Upper Peninsula (UP).

Jordan shared his frustrations about the recent deer management decisions made by the Natural Resources Commission (NRC). Despite the hard work and data-backed recommendations from his Deer Management Initiative (DMI) team, the NRC ultimately dismissed their suggestions in favor of outdated and ineffective policies. This decision was influenced by longstanding relationships and political gamesmanship, undermining the integrity of the process.

We delved into the complexities of deer management in the UP, discussing the challenges posed by a high predator population, habitat loss, and the impact of severe winters. Jordan emphasized the importance of a balanced buck-to-doe ratio for a healthy deer herd and criticized the outdated mentality of protecting does at all costs. He argued for a more balanced approach, including conservative doe harvests and a one-buck rule to improve herd health and sustainability.

Our conversation also touched on the broader issue of hunter mentality. Jordan highlighted the need for a shift from a "me-first" attitude to a stewardship mentality, where hunters see themselves as guardians of the resource, focused on conservation and sharing the experience with others.

We wrapped up the episode by reflecting on the deeper meaning of hunting. For Jordan, hunting is not just about the harvest but about reconnecting with nature, finding peace, and restoring his soul. It’s a journey that goes beyond the gear and the kill, offering a profound sense of fulfillment and connection to the natural world.

Thank you for tuning in to this episode of Generations of Hunt. We hope you found Jordan’s insights as enlightening and thought-provoking as we did. Stay tuned for more discussions on hunting, conservation, and the great outdoors!

The Importance of Experience Over Trophy Size in Deer Hunting David Riley

I had the pleasure of being hosted by David Riley in his home, surrounded by the impressive Michigan bucks he's harvested over the years. We kicked off the conversation by discussing the significance of taxidermy and the stories behind each mount. David shared heartfelt anecdotes, including the emotional journey of hunting after his accident, emphasizing that the experience and memories often outweigh the size of the rack.

As we transitioned into the main topic, David provided insights into his current preparations for the upcoming hunting season. He talked about his meticulous process of locating targets, shooting practice, and packing for his first out-of-state hunt in September. David's approach to hunting is deeply rooted in the experience and the process, rather than just the end goal of filling a tag.

We delved into the importance of out-of-state hunts and how they can be a learning experience. David encouraged hunters to take the plunge and go for it, even if it means starting with smaller, less popular states before tackling the big ones like Iowa or Kansas. He shared his own experiences of hunting in various states and how each trip has contributed to his growth as a hunter.

David also provided a detailed breakdown of his strategy for an early September opener. He emphasized the importance of glassing for two evenings and one morning before the season starts, to locate and pattern the deer. His plan involves a mix of light scouting, glassing, and being mobile to adapt to the conditions and deer movements.

Throughout the episode, David's passion for hunting and his methodical approach to the sport were evident. He stressed the value of the process, the lessons learned from each hunt, and the importance of doing things your way. Whether you're a seasoned hunter or new to the game, there's a wealth of knowledge to be gained from David's experiences and insights.

Generations To Hunt
Week 4: Final chance

Welcome to the latest episode of the Generations of Hunt Podcast, part of our ongoing "Stay Out September" mini-series. This episode is packed with valuable insights and tips to help you prepare for the upcoming hunting season. I’m joined by Dave, and together we dive into various topics that are crucial for hunters as we approach the fall.

We received some listener feedback about our previous episode, specifically about the importance of water sources for deer. Dave and I discussed how water availability can vary greatly depending on the terrain and location. For instance, in swampy areas, water is abundant and not a key focus, whereas in drier regions, watering holes can be critical.

As we approach the end of summer, it's crucial to finalize your hunting preparations:

Camera Checks: Ensure your trail cameras are set up correctly, with fresh batteries and ample SD card space.

  • Tree Prep: Clear your access trails and finalize any tree stand setups. Remember, on public land, stands can be placed starting September 1st.

Hunter Pressure: Be aware of other hunters in your area. Look for signs like stands, trail cameras, and human activity to adjust your strategy accordingly.

  • It's essential to keep practicing with your bow. Whether you're using a compound or a traditional bow, make sure everything is dialed in and ready for the season.

Looking ahead to September, we'll focus on:

  • Physical Training: Preparing your body for the demands of hunting.

Gear Check: Ensuring all your equipment is in top condition.

Broadheads: Selecting and preparing your broadheads.

Home Life: Balancing hunting preparations with family and personal responsibilities.

First, a big thank you to our sponsors:

  • Huntworth Camo: Check out their new camo patterns, which offer great quality at a reasonable price.

VPA: Their new Omega broadheads with bleeders are out, and they look promising.

The Journey of a Mobile Hunter: Matt Lehr's Adventures and Insights

we had an engaging conversation about Matt's hunting journey and experiences. Matt has primarily hunted on public land, with a brief stint on private land, and has traveled extensively across the United States to pursue his passion.

He found success more quickly in other states with larger and older deer populations. However, Matt emphasized that his love for hunting is driven more by the adventure and the challenge of exploring new terrains than by the size of the bucks.

Matt also discussed his approach to scouting and hunting, highlighting the importance of finding thick bedding areas, pinch points, and scrapes. He shared his experiences of hunting in various states, including Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri, and his plans for the upcoming season.

We touched on the pressures hunters face, especially from social media, and the importance of enjoying the process rather than focusing solely on the kill. Matt shared his insights on how this mindset shift has made him a better and more consistent hunter.

Towards the end of our conversation, Matt talked about his mobile hunting setup, which includes a customized 4Runner that serves as his "Mobile Motel 2.0." He also shared his thoughts on the ideal duration for hunting trips and the balance between preparation and adaptability.

Stay Out of September: Week 3 - The Focus on Food Sources

we dive into week three of our "Stay Out of September" (SOS) series, focusing on the critical aspects of preparing for the upcoming hunting season. With just six weeks left, it's crunch time, and we discuss the importance of getting your gear in order, including shooting your bow, tuning your arrows, and preparing your broadheads.

We emphasize the significance of analyzing data from trail cameras and understanding the shifts in deer movement as the season progresses. It's essential not to get discouraged if certain cameras aren't showing activity yet, as some spots are better suited for later in the season.

The main focus of this week is on food sources. We talk about the importance of speed scouting to check if oaks are dropping acorns or if apple trees are producing. Understanding the cycles of these food sources is crucial, as what was hot last year might not be this year. We also discuss the importance of knowing your terrain and how local agriculture can impact deer movement.

For those with private land, we touch on the importance of maintaining food plots and ensuring they are well-prepared for the season. This includes overseeding if necessary and creating access trails to improve your chances of a successful hunt.

We also highlight the importance of checking your trail cameras, replacing batteries, and ensuring they are positioned correctly. Using tools like SD card readers can help you make adjustments on the fly, reducing the need for multiple trips and minimizing disturbance.

As always, we remind our listeners to practice shooting their bows, especially from elevated positions, to ensure they are ready for the real hunting scenarios.

From Concept to Creation: The Journey of Huntworth's New Vertek Camo

In this episode, we are joined by Nate Seller from Huntworth Camo and Average Jack Archery. Nate is a remarkable individual who runs his own archery shop and is deeply involved in the hunting industry. We’ve been eagerly waiting to have him on the show, especially with the recent launch of Huntworth’s new camo pattern, Vertek.

Nate dives deep into the intricate process of developing a camo pattern, which is far more complex than one might think. It took nearly three years to bring Vertek to life, and Nate explains the balance between traditional twig-and-leaf designs and modern digital patterns. He also shares insights into the extensive testing and feedback that went into perfecting the pattern, ensuring it works across various terrains and hunting scenarios.

We also discuss the affordability and quality of Huntworth gear. Nate emphasizes that despite the high-quality materials and innovative designs, Huntworth products remain accessible to the average hunter. He highlights the importance of practical features like pocket placement and durability, which are often overlooked but crucial for hunters.

Additionally, we touch on Huntworth’s Heat Boost technology, which uses graphene-infused fabrics to retain body heat efficiently. This innovation allows for thinner, less bulky garments that still provide exceptional warmth, making them ideal for bow hunters.

Towards the end of the episode, we shift gears to talk about Nate’s archery shop, Average Jack Archery. Nate shares his journey from starting as a hobbyist to running a full-fledged archery shop. He offers valuable advice for hunters, including the importance of timely bow maintenance and the challenges of last-minute repairs.
