Geek Herring
Time to say goodbye!

After 5 years of talking about all things feminism, geekdom, and LGBTQIA+ issues, the time of Geek Herring has come to an end.

In this episode Amanda and Moni talk one final time about their decision and what led to this point.

We are forever grateful for every single person who listened to our ramblings.

Hopefully we'll see or hear you in one way or the other out there.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Forever geekily yours,
Amanda & Monika

Geek Interview: The Power of Charity Streamers with Jay from War Child UK

Charity Twitch streamers have such a positive impact! In fact, it's such a good avenue for charities to explore, many charities have opted to hire folks to liaise directly with streamers for huge fundraising campaigns.

We're joined by Jay, a charity Twitch streamer, content creator, and Gaming Partnerships Executive for War Child UK. They talk about their experiences raising money on Twitch, making a difference with War Child UK, and all about War Child UK's charitable contribution to this world.

This is an excellent, super inspiring episode that we definitely hope you love as much as we did recording it!

Geek Interview with Demeternoth: Juggling Life as a Content Creator

We are joined by the one and only absolutely incredibly inspiring Demeternoth! She is a content creator and Twitch streamer, focussing on deep discussions and MMOs. We have a fantastic conversation about the trials and tribulations of content creation, what it's like being a visible woman, and how we are all changing the world one day at a time.

We also had some amazing community questions:

From Cyrub_KoC on Twitter: Deme, as a fellow content creator, how do you gather the motivation to continue creating? I’ve hit a pretty bad wall and I don’t know how to get back into the groove of creation. Any tips?

From TitansCreed on Twitter: Why are you so coooooooooool?

Geek Girl Reviews Money Shot: The Pornhub Story

Money Shot: The Pornhub Story is about, well, porn. But it's also not. It's about sexual exploitation, legal sex work, and the laws that have muddled everything up.

With some thoughtful and knowledgeable from our community, we discuss this documentary in-depth, what FOSTA and SESTA mean for the sex work industry, and, above all, condemn the sexual exploitation on Pornhub and so many other pornography sites.

Rest assured, we're going to dive into this topic, specifically sex work and ethical pornography, in a future episode.

Geek Interview with Clarkisha Kent: Chatting All Things Fat Off, Fat On

Clarkisha Kent joins us to discuss her brand new book, Fat Off, Fat On: A Bit Bitch Manifesto. We had the pleasure of reading this book before its release, and it was really cool getting to chat with her about her writing and creative process.

CW for childhood and family trauma, which is a big topic in her memoir. We briefly discuss family dynamics and trauma in this episode, too.

Clarkisha shares her writing process, how she came to write her memoir before the western she's dreaming of, and what it's like being a first-time published author.

About Clarkisha Kent

Clarkisha Kent is a Nigerian-American writer, culture critic, former columnist, and author. Committed to telling inclusive stories via unique viewpoints from nigh-infancy, she is fascinated with using storytelling and cultural criticism not as a way to “overcome” or “transcend” her unique identities (as a fat and queer Black African woman), but as a way to explore them, celebrate them, affirm them, and most importantly, normalize them and make the world safe enough for people who share them to exist.

You're not the same as anyone else, so why would you try to live your life to someone else's standards? We're so tired of the patriarchal society's defined linear path and the shame people feel (and GET) if they're not following along it perfectly.
