Heart-to-Heart: How GLP-1 Agonists Could Shape the Future of Cardiovascular Care in Long-Term Patients

This week two of Eventus WholeHealth’s exceptional pharmacists VP of Pharmacy Dr Monica Leriger PharmD and Dr Barbara Pereira, PharmD Senior Director of Clinical Pharmacy are chatting about a recent and important article published in the Annals of Internal Medicine. The article dives into estimating new eligibilty and cost for expanded medicare covererage of GL P1 agonists for cardiovascular risk prevention, a topic directly impacting the patients we care for at Eventus—vulnerable individuals in long-term care. These estimates are being made after the findings of the SELECT trial published its findings in 2024 that showed that semaglutide reduces cardiovascular events in certain patients without diabetes.
