In this episode, author Oleg Veretskiy joins Ukrainian wine exporter Tanya Kagitina. Neither had any idea the turn their lives would take on Feb. 24, 2022. In this podcast, we explore how Tanya and her sister pivoted their lives to support the country's struggle for freedom. Tanya is joined by Pierce Press author, Oleg Veretskiy, who likewise gave up his real estate and writing career to volunteer and fundraise for non-lethal aid to the  Ukrainian military.

How, Tanya is one of “The Odesa Sisters” who with her sister Antonina, runs an impressive sewing operation in Odesa, Ukraine, constructing high quality winter uniforms, sleeping bags, medical uniforms, adaptive underwear for injured soldiers, and other essential clothing items. Tatyana also serves as an interpreter for Ukrainian author & volunteer Oleg Veretskiy and assists in his projects supporting frontline Ukrainian military units.

Today we preview this exciting session at the IPNE Conference on Nov. 3-4 with Edie Clarke, an experienced, and can we say gifted, video producer and YouTube strategist. Edie works with client to how how they can use video to grow organically, how different video types can highlight expertise and engage audiences. She demonstrates YouTube's potential as a platform for broadening reach and connecting with readers, urging the adoption of video as a key marketing tool.

Oleg Veretskiy had just published the first novel in his magical realism trilogy, “Tales of the Wandering Mists: A Fairy Tale,” when Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in Feb. 2022. After getting to know him, we decided that all proceeds after production costs should go to Oleg, who has suspended his career to support Ukraine’s fight for freedom; the publisher will not retain any profits for this first book in The Tales of the Wandering Mists trilogy.

Despite the stress and disruption from the war, the reception of his first book continues to buoy Oleg. “I really like the feedback that my readers send me,” he admits. “Some of them ended up as refugees in Europe and the US, and the book has a therapeutic effect on them. When I think about this, I feel goosebumps.”

We are deeply grateful for helping us realize this meaningful project.

Emily Enger previews her IPNE Conference presentation on how authors can gain visibility, connect with readers, and make industry partnerships without hustling or being constantly overwhelmed. In fact, she says, a "minimalist marketing" strategy is actually better for long-term success. Here workshop will help authors understand why that slow approach is better and what it can look like for them.
