Hotels, Motels, and Other Places

In this episode we learn that Stephen likes fancy hotels and Travis is quite the newb when it comes to hotel expectations.  Travis is also more likely to gamble with his safety, but that has nothing to do with his strange connection to Jeffrey Dahmer.  Also, one of us likes to travel without reservations and has had some very mixed results!

Creating Space for Adventure

Sometimes we can plan ourselves into a corner.  We  schedule out every minute of the day and suddenly our "vacation" starts to feel more like an "obligation".  How do you change this?  You start by leaving room in your schedule for life to happen.  Adventures don't conform to schedules, but they will show up on a whim.  What examples can you think for not leaving room for adventure?  What examples can you think of for creating space for things to happen?

Alone but not lonely; Perspectives on traveling solo

In this episode we’re discussing what it’s like to travel while alone.  What you can expect to hear:  What we look for when we’re traveling solo, and how that differs with Stephen being married and Travis being a bachelor.  Are people more likely to strike up a conversation when we’re solo or when we’re with others?  How does being alone change the way we eat meals?  When it comes to camping, how long is too long to be alone?  As a bonus, we make some goals for the new year.

Seeking happiness through travel

This week Stephen and Travis discuss happiness and answer some big questions:  What do you do when you just don't feel like getting out of the house?  Is there a magic age when you will be the happiest?  How can you set yourself up for a successful trip that will leave you feeling more satisfied?  If you plan out all of the details can you avoid a boring trip?  Along the way they talk about their dogs and their favorite places, and Travis will explain how going on a cruise is exactly like a day trip to a small town... kinda.

Here's the article that Travis references in today's show: https://theconversation.com/at-what-age-are-people-usually-happiest-new-research-offers-surprising-clues-156906

How do you get started with a new hobby?

It can be so easy to forget what it's like to be a beginner if you've got years of experience with an activity.  (For the record, experience doesn't equate skill... We can have years of experience being absolutely mediocre at an activity!)  So when a listener asked us to talk about what it takes to begin a new hobby, it really made us think back to how we actually got started with some of our favorite activities.

If you are interested in starting something new, but don't know where to start, this one is for you.  If you are well-versed in a number of fun hobbies then we want to encourage you to think about what you can do to help someone else develop a love for those same activities.  After all, the outdoors are generally more fun when you can share them with others.
