S2 #4 An October catch up (inc. Halloween horrors & breaking boundaries) | Equestrian Mums Club

Well, equestrian friends, winter is just about hitting us in the UK... *cue horror noises here* Send prayers and sacrifices to all the weather gods you believe in!

---

In this episode of the Equestrian Mums Club podcast, we, your dutiful hosts (Katie Allen-Clarke and Sophie Conway) are discussing our latest triumphs and challenges in juggling parenthood and equestrian life. Get to know us and what we've been up to through the month of October - including trying to move house, managing toddler behaviour, and the horror (& confusion?!) that comes with Halloween preparations. We're also touching on the importance of safety around horses and the humorous mishaps that come with parenting whilst on the yard.

P.s. Want a sneak peek into our crystal ball with us?! The episode concludes with a teaser for upcoming guests and a special C-word episode (that's Christmas to you and I, kids!).

---

💡 Key takeaways for you:

  • Pumpkin picking in October? You do you! (We're confused, and maybe a tad stingy!)
  • Sometimes you need a cry to your mum friends - we're all going through it.
  • Toddlerhood = turmoil! For all involved. But, there's cute bits too, obvs.

S2 #3 Tack, toddlers & timesheets: The 'Return to Work' episode | Equestrian Mums Club

Heading back to work after maternity leave isn’t just about the job – it’s about learning to juggle nappies, meetings, and mucking out... all before lunchtime. In this episode, we chat about the realities of returning to work as an equestrian mum - from the emotional rollercoaster to the financial factors that shape our decisions.

You’ll hear honest reflections and community voice notes from us, and from EMC community mums finding their feet (and stirrups!) as they navigate childcare, careers, and the never-ending to-do list.

💡 Key takeaways for you:

  • Every parent’s journey back to work is different; and that’s okay.

  • Sharing your story helps normalise the struggle (we promise, everyone feels it!).

  • Finances and feelings are often linked - don’t stress, you’re doing great.

So grab a cuppa and settle in for a chat that’s equal parts honest, supportive, and full of laughs - because no one said returning to work and riding would be easy with littles, but we’re in it together.

S2 #2 Dressage dreams & a winning "home team" | Chat with Bobby Hayler-Wright

This episode, we’re joined by the brilliant Bobby Hayler-Wright, who opens up about her journey from dressage stardom to motherhood - and what it really takes to find balance between mucking out, mum life, and maintaining her own identity.

Bobby chats about her early days in the sport, how her approach to fitness and competition has evolved post-baby, and the ever-present tug of mum guilt (we’ve all been there!).

She also discusses the importance of the support network around you, and how her parents, husband, neighbours and clients are all part of that community. She’s honest, funny, and refreshingly real about the juggle - reminding us all that it’s okay to slow down, adapt, and make space for ourselves along the way.

Whether you’re an expectant equestrian mum, already deep in the toddler trenches, or just trying to figure out how to get back in the saddle (literally or figuratively!), this one’s for you.

#48 Return of the... Tack? A LONG overdue catch up | Equestrian Mums Club

Oh... HI there, Equestrian Mums Club listeners! We're sorry for leaving you in the cold, for so long...

In this episode, we're reconnecting with listeners after a long break of podcasting - due to the irony of equestrian parenting! BUT, we're refocussing our efforts on creating content that makes you feel seen and heard, and letting you in on the challenges we've been facing on our own equestrian parenting journeys, too.

Katie tells us more about her challenges of juggling work, moving house and toddlerhood! And, Sophie tells us a little more about how she's stumbling through "the swamp" of newborn life again, whilst also struggling with the grief of losing her heart horse, Oscar and beloved dog, Peggy. More than ever, we need your connection, too!

Plus, we mention the sad post-ponement (geddit?!) of the inaugural EMC Confidence Clinic at West Wilts - in case you'd not gotten the memo.

We're making plans to bring you some joy - so join us again for a wild ride, with a few parenting-related obstacles along the way.

#47 Here's to 2025! | Equestrian Mums Club

Well, HELLO THERE, 2025! Nice to meet you.

In this episode of the Equestrian Mums Club podcast - after a brief hiatus since the end of 2024 - we catch listeners up on our lives, discussing our children, horses, and recent experiences.

We reconnect with listeners after a little break from recording, chat about how a New Year often puts the pressure on for big goals (and how we're not in that zone!) and the importance of avoiding overwhelm as a parent.

Sophie gives us an update on equestrian parenting life with two - as little Ruby is now 3 months old! Plus, she gives us an honest insight into the struggles she's finding with her riding confidence since having babies - especially now she has a young horse to bring on in Trev.

Katie updates listeners on her (unintended) herd of four-leggeds and how her little one, Rafe, is getting on. Plus, she shares a mental health update, too - which may resonate with some of our listeners.

Lastly, we have a good chat about the first EVER Equestrian Mums Club event - coming to West Wilts Equestrian Centre on 21st March 2025! Find out more about what it includes, what our vision is for the day and why we decided to run it.

TLDR? Get to know us a little bit more, as well as some updates on exciting plans for the Equestrian Mums Club in the next few months!

#36 Championing women within our industry & creating change | Chat with Muireann O'Toole Brennan, Co-founder of Equitas

Have you ever felt underrepresented in the equine world? Perhaps you've noticed that women are often in less leadership positions in this sector... despite making up over 75% of participants in the sport?!

In this episode, we're talking to someone who is part of an organisation looking to change that. Muireann O'Toole Brennan is Co-Founder and CMO of Equitas - an online publication standing for justice, fairness and equity for females in our industry.

In this very thought-provoking episode, we're talking about:

  • An introduction to Muireann, her work and her family
